The Willow is complete!

Well I trimmed and trimmed until my fingers nearly fell off (actually it does a number on my back, with all the weird angles I have to get into to lay the trim), and did some touchup paint, and finally finished off the Willow. I also looked around for boxes but nary a one to be found that's big enough-- 3' x 3' x 2' is what this house needs. I do have a couple large boxes on hand that if patched together, will do the job, so I guess that is what I'll have to do!

The light is a little weird because it's streaming through the window but hopefully one can make out the true colors. I went ahead and painted the shingles with a mix of gray and antique silver, and sealed them with Mod Podge.

I couldn't find my old brick powder that I had detailed the chimney bodies in... <_< So I mixed some sand with some farm red or some such color and used that for the chimney tops (touched up the chimney body detail with it a bit too since the shades were slightly different).

I guess one can't see it in the views above, but I put in a false ceiling in the children's room in the 3rd floor just so I wouldn't have to deal with those angles. I had done that in the Magnolia and liked how it turned out.

For the understair, I had originally planned to put a hinged door, but decided that the cloth panels would do OK for that purpose.

Well it's good to have this house finished! :D I just hope that the door knocker and handle won't fall off during shipping; they've fallen off once already... :p

Your Willow is beautiful and making me rethink whether or not to order one in half scale. Usually I prefer the more decorated houses but your build has really brought out the stately beauty of this house. :)

I love your Willow. I just ordered mine. This will be my first house. I did make a town store on my own for my Christmas village. After seeing your Willow I know I chose the right one for my first house. Thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your little piece of AWESOMENESS.

The exterior is very, very pretty. Did you make the stone bricks yourself? They are beautiful. I'm really glad you showed me this version. I think I might get a Willow one day and do a spin on the concept. Thank you

Your Willow is really great.  I have a question.  I just started the Willow  I am at the stage of gluing the first floor to the front, that’s going fine but the instructions say not to glue the partition to the front wall yet.  In reading ahead I never see where the instructions call for gluing the first and second floors partitions to the front wall.  Why shouldn’t you glue the partitions to the front when you glue the floors in?  Seems like it would be hard to get such a small bead of glue on the partition edge without making a mess.  What did you do?  Thanks

Thanks for your kind comments! This was some years ago, but I think one shouldn't glue the partition to the front until the second floor is glued in place with respect to the side and front walls. It's a matter of not constraining the partition in place too much: the important constraints are with respect to the first and second floors. After those main constraints are in place, then one can glue the other sides. If one glues the partition to the front wall right away, then the second floor probably won't fit nicely. I try to figure out alot of these things by dry-fitting everything together a few times first.

I hear you about getting glue in tight places: something that I have been doing is using an old (small) paint brush to apply the (wood) glue on both sides of the partition, then use a dry cotton cloth (cut-up t-shirt pieces work great for me) to wipe excess glue away (and wipe into the cracks).

Looking forward to seeing your build!

Thank you so much.  That makes sense.  I like the idea of using a small paint brush for glue.  I use a syringe or a toothpick for gluing but neither of these seemed to be right for this application.  What a dickens squaring the first floor and partition to the front wall.  With the help of heavy books, stone bookends and lots of tape it is drying as I write this.  Your quick reply to my question sure helped me get that done tonight.  Thanks again.
