Well well well i finally did something on the half scale house ;)
I stuck the roof on...put on the battons and did the first coat of paint.....yay me

i am finishing up the last exterior wall now, and it was a hard one. in the plans, this was a bare wall, nothing on it, except some optional windows, if you wanted to put them in. BORING!!!!! so, i got a little creative. i used 8" sonotube to make the wall. sonotube is a round heavy cardboard tube used as a form to pour round concrete pillars, and it comes in a lot of different diameters. it's 1/8" thick, so i had to glue 4 pieces together to make it the same thickness as my walls. then

back already!!! well, i built the door frame for the front of the house, i will make the door later, but i needed to get the frame in place so i could finish the siding on the front. the finished front entry will have narrow windows beside the door, and a transom above. once again.........anyone want to help me paint???????????? hahahahaha. next, i think i am going to move around to the other gable end, and finish siding there, and continue on with the roof.
hi, it's been a while since i have posted on here, i've been working on the house, but some trial and error work, so i haven't wanted to post, until i was pretty much set on my design. i have pretty much finished up the top of the front of the house, lots and lots of detail work. i scoured over pictures of real houses, looking for designs i liked, that took time, and then making it work, which included some tearing apart and changing. i find i kind of make some of this up as i go......so, tha
ok, back at it, i took a break, because i had to build a rl shed onto the shop. that's done, now back to the house. i still have some round shingles to put on the tower, but i need to put the shingles on the porches roofs before i can do that. i think i have decided on how i am going to do the front, so i started, and if i don't like it, i will tear it off and start over. i decided to take some of the the trim from the tower, and continue it around the front of the house, so the windows wil

painted the 'stone' last weekend and havent done anything since!! this is a house that just whispers...wish it would find its voice
the roof will be bluey grey blacky looking but even though Cranky is coaxing me to stick it on...theres things that have to be done inside first or i'll never reach them
theres alot of...cant do this till i do that and cant do that till i do this .... and its sorta got me at a standstill ...i'm waiting for an order of stairs inside doors
well, i decided on the look for the lower level of the tower, it's a little different than i had in mind, but i think i like it way better!!! time consuming, but i'm really happy with it. since the height worked out right, i think i will continue the vertical siding right across the front porch when i side it.
well, i think i have finally settled on the design of the second story of the tower.....i tried some different looks, but i think i am going with this one. i decided to give each section it's own look, taking that idea from real houses from the past. now i have to come up with something for the first floor, but i have something in mind. i love this siding, the way it goes on, the way it looks, i really, really like it!!!!!!

well, i pretty much have the top 1/3 of the tower sided now, so i can move downward, but i had a friend take this picture for me, so you can see just how big this house is.......or how small
ok, this has been tough to figure out, how i want to detail my tower on the exterior, but i think i have it worked out, for the most part. i still have some dental work to go around the top, just under the turret, and i have some detail work planned for the sides of the windows. lots and lots of detail work, very tedious, and time consuming, but i love doing it!!!! i am going to work my way down to the foundation, then start the exterior of the main body. the round edge shakes were a little

well, i am starting to add some trim and details to the turret. i have been looking at pics, trying to determine how i want to finish the outside of my house. well, i decided to start with the turret, i'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants, and i reserve the right to change my mind at any time!!! i made some cove molding to fit around the walls at the top of the turret, and then made crown to go around the turret under the 2nd and 3rd story windows. then i took some posterboard, and cut
woot!!! the test window and door arrived
i thought i'd better get one of each and try them before i got the bank loan out to by 24 of them
and i love them!!! soo detailed (just the way i like it )
so now its all systems go go go!!!!!! and i'll start glueing her up now i can cut the windows to the right size...the tower ones are spot on...ya musta known Cranky

i think this maybe my inside layout...i thought just keep it simple....the attic 'walls' need to be cut to fit yet but ya get the general idea ooooo and the stair holes need to be repositioned otherwise there could be a few accidents
because its half scale and i havent got much experience with it...i'm thinking to wallpaper first then stick the house together? any thoughts?

well i got over my stage fright and started my bash
My bash bits are never going to be as exactly done as Cranky's...my exacto knife and ruler wont hold up to all his specialist tools so i just did it and will break out the spackfilla
I feel so much better now i've savaged it ...after all its the finished product ya look at not the bodgey bits ya will never see
Heres the new window holes and how my tower will open...
well, i finished the porches today, posts are secure, soffits are in, floors are down, but, not without a few problems...i had "one of those days"!!! not only did my chair kick out from under me, and i landed on the concrete awkwardly, but i had a nail from my nail gun curl right into the thumb on my left hand, and to top it all off, i put the tip of my other thumb into the blade of my table saw!!!! well, everything is fine, the cut from the saw blade will be fine, but i did have to get an an
well, i have the roofs permanently attached, the soffits in, just need to paint the posts, and put floorboards down. i am big on white trim, so at this point, the posts and soffit will be white. i will also glue a small trim piece around the soffits after the siding is done. i am also not sure if i am going to put the porch boards down with small gaps, or fit tight like an inside floor. it seems to me, if the porch was covered, the boards were tight. any thoughts????

and today my little treasure arrived..i was so excited she was in dry fit within the hour!!!
let me tell you all this man is a craftsman...everything fits like a glove!!! no sanding no forcing anything!!
now onto the fun bit!!!
well, after spending much time looking at pictures of porch designs, i settled on this look. it's elegant in a simple kind of way, nit to over the top. took a while to turn the round pieces on the lathe, and cut the rest of the pieces for each post. the small wooden rings at the top and bottom of the round posts were challenging. each post consists of 11 separate pieces. glad thats done, took me all afternoon!!!
