Reception Room

Reception room is pretty much complete. Still have to do a desk chair -- but I have to locate one of those little pizza tables since I live rurally and definitely non-delivery The workroom is still underway. The cabinetry is complete, the tattoo chair and the artist's desk. Also made a cool autoclave, power source and a tiny little tattoo needle. This room is still needing shelving, a roll-around stool for the artist, a movable armrest and rolling tray table. A lot of work sti

Trying to Finish

Determined to finish this project while my muse is still singing to me! Completed the tattoo chair -- leather seat, aluminum covered fittings.

Back to the Tattoo Parlor

Started the cabinets for the workroom. Here's the sink -- faux stainless steel. Used Duck "Easy Liner" and it worked great. Would highly recommend this stuff for anyone who wants that high-tech look for their kitchen. And I got the windows in -- here's the front window.

Finished structure

This is the completed porch. The front (where it's white) will be covered with 'grass' and autumn leaves....ready to decorate, so I'm starting some super easy wicker-look furniture from a Joann Swanson pattern.

Aged and roofed

Ok the porch has been roofed and aged. All it need now is a rail and a door knob then it's ready for decoration.

Window & Door

Got the window and door built and framed. The window was 'aged' before building so that the lovely vinegar & steel wool wouldn't get on the 'glass' of the window. Next step is to add the 'battens' onto the siding and then the roof and porch posts. Afterward entire structure will be painted with aging solution.

Some of the decor items for the Autumn Cabin

Don't usually make my own stuff -- but, I've decided to make absolutely everything that goes into this scene, soooo. Made a basket of autumn leaves (sponged painted craft paper, punch out oak and maple leaves.) The instructions for this basket appear in DHM September 2007 the only change I made was to paint a coat of Mod Podge on it to give it stability. The bowls are wooden craft bowls painted cream and trimmed with blue then varnished. The bean basket was one from my stash (but

Building a Cabin Porch

This is for a group project for an on-line forum I belong (World Wide Miniatures). The project is to create autumn scene in any container you choose and we need to complete the project during September. This will be a cabin-in-the-woods scene. The porch is built from 1/2" foamboard -- something I've had lying around for years after DH bought the wrong size foamboard once upon a time. There are three pieces: 10X12", 10X8" and 10x6". The veneer is balsa wood cut to form and glued

Flash & magazine rack

Added some flash for the walls and a magazine rack to hold all those tattoo subscriptions. You can see some of the furniture we'll be using -- the 'leather' loveseat and very modern floor lamp along with a cool aquarium. Right now I have the door curtain drying in the pretty pleater so I'll be adding that later on.

Ready for Decoration!

All of the trim is in and it's ready to start the decor. The windows and door will go in last since they've been printed with Ann's logo and I don't want them damaged at all

Bamboo Rollup Blind

Got the baseboard in for the waiting room and framed up the window and door. Usually window treatments would be my last thing, but couldn't resist temporarily placing the bamboo rollup. It's just stuck in for a look-see. Think it turned out so cute. Have a class tonight so I'm done for the day!

Floors done & installed/trim started

The floors are done and installed. Got the outside of the structure painted black enamel, but it needs another coat so it has to dry overnight. Started the trimwork -- the workroom will only have crown moulding and baseboard and the waiting room will also have chair rail.

Workroom Floor

Got the workroom floor done -- took longer than I anticipated and it still needs another coat of gloss, but it's raining so that will have to wait til tomorrow

Flooring

Here's the faux marble flooring that I plan to use in the shop. Needs a few coats of gloss varnish and will be cut into sections mimicking real marble.

Headway on the Tattoo Shop

Here's the shop painted lavender -- not my choice, remember Here's a pic showing the anaglypta on the workroom wall and the worklight. Have company this weekend so I have to make like Martha Stewart, but next week, we'll add the mablelized flooring, crown moulding, chair rail and baseboards.

Week 1

This is a Houseworks horizontal duplex roombox. It will be a tattoo parlor "In The Flesh" for my soon to be DIL, Ann, who is currently a senior at Radford and also a professional tattooist. All the colors, decor, furnishings are her selections. I'm just the contractor Here's the box built and primed. We've shortened the interior wall to allow for channels for a plexiglass front -- the ceiling will be sliding plexiglass and we will be adding channels for that as well. I also ad

Day 6

It's complete, decorated and viewable in my album (Brewing Gourd)

Day 5, Part Deux

The roofing on the lean to is complete. The thatch is whisk broom straw and we have some Spanish moss growing out of it. The little owl and the mushrooms were made by my son's fiance.

Day 5

The landscaping is done! The styrofoam base was covered with Mod Podge. Before it dried, I used sheet moss. This was attached by brushing additional Mod Podge to the underside of the moss. As the moss dries out, it will turn brown and be the perfect landscape for a witch's yard. Used the same technique on the Haunted House. It should be totally dried out and primarily brown by Halloween. Here's the lean-to structure. The "posts" are a single tree branch e

Day 4

Well we're still waiting for the gourd glue to finish drying so that I can paint. Decided to take a little time to create a spooky tree for the gourdyard  Took some likely looking twigs from a branch that fell from one of my maples. Tied them all together with a large rubber band -- the kind that comes on produce -- trimmed them up and covered with clay. Got a kind of nasty looking face on the trunk and voila -- a haunted maple He's currently drying and unpainted, b

Day 3

Added 4 clay tree trunk pillars for interior support along with the stone floor and stoned entrance. Trying to maintain the curved structure. Fingernails worked well for etching the bark. The tones will be painted in grey/biege tones and the tree trunks brown. Not painting the gourd itself at all since I think I really like the natural look that it has. Wish I could do better photos for the forum, but my digitals won't upload (even at minimal res

Day 2

This is kind of amazing. The gourd's body is about 1/4" thick and very wood-like only without splinters  I've smoothed the opening and tried to maintain the same shape as the overall body which is a little flatter on one side and narrower at the top so the opening is rather unequal oval. The Dremel worked well for smoothing, having survived it's dunk in the washer (don't ask -- just know that a dip in your Whirlpool won't destroy your tiny machine). The interior should provide enou

Building the Gourd Brewing Hut

 Ok, today I start the brewing hut for poor Ms Putahexonya who is a bit tired of my promises and is making noises about getting a new general contractor. Have made the initial opening cut in the gourd. Not sure what I expected -- I am a city girl afterall -- but the inside was dry and the seeds had turned papery. There is a coating which I assume was the fiber holding the seeds in place. This coating is also papery but has a shimmery, pearl
