Working on the Queen Anne today...

I got alot done on this house this weekend...i still need to remove the roof panels and reglue them but i did manage to glue in the interior room dividers. can't wait to select wallpaper and flooring. some of the furniture in the photos will go in this house, some of it was handy for photos. The exterior paint looks very different from the photos as the flash really changed the color. it's a pretty shade of a deep blue. i'll use cream and possibly a darker blue (navy?) ....and maybe a little red

Working on the Queen Anne today...

Several months ago when I worked on this house I didn't completely glue the roof on this house because I was having a hard time with it. In the meantime, the cats have laid on it and the roof panels are coming apart...so the project for today is to redo the roof and possibly start the exteriro paint color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

working on the exterior!

I put two coats of dirty wash on the house this morning. I've then colored some of the stones...not sure if i will leave it the way it is or not. I decided to walk away and give it a second look in a little while. I'll have Andrew give his opinion of it when he wakes up. I want to keep the stonework muted, but then again i don't want it to look lifeless with the same look all over...I took lots of pictures, i'll download them later. I'm going to attatch the roof today!

Willowcrest construction

lots of progress on the willowcrest since last night. i still need to finish the 3rd floor stuff before i start fine tuning the opening i cut for the second floor staircase, it still needs some work but at least it's mostly done. Next will be priming, then i'll install the staircase...i didn't want to put it in place for photos because i think i'm going to have to coax it a bit to go into it's place and i want to get wallpaper hung first. what a shame you can't really see that upper hall. i love

Wicker furniture for little girls room

I have some new wicker photos to share. Recently my friend Terri (smallhouset) finish a set of wicker for a girls room for my Foxhall. I'm excited it's exactly how I pictured it would look! The bed was very delicate and needs a little repair but i can so picture it dressed up with pretty fabric and pillows.

westville progress

6/18/08 Grumble. Yesterday I felt well enough to deal with my discomfort so I spent most of the day working on cutting and staining for the trim for my Westville. Yes, I know i was overdoing things. I did plan to take it easy today but that I would work on my westville a "little bit" more. I have felt terrible today, pain, nausea, vomiting etc so i am not working on anything today. had to go back to bed for several hours only to wake up with acid reflux and vomiting. I

The roof panels arent glued on yet, except the large one to the right (looking from back) and the back panel with the little window. The attic is a small long room, which will be hard to decorate unless i do it before the roof is installed. I really really like this house, it's just adorable! I have so many photos to catch this blog up on, i won't add many of each, just not in the mood

wallpaper

I finally decided on a wallpaper choice for the living room. i can't decide if it looks christmasy or not. i don't want to change it because it does look pretty. I finally chose the wallpaper for the bathroom as well. i'm re-wallpapering that room because although the paper is pretty, it's just not what i have in mind. i did find a nice floral and although the print is bigger than i would like, it's a beautiful print. Unfortunately i ran out of wallpaper paste. i'll have to wait until payday to

updates from last week

December 31st. Just thought i'd throw in a couple of my pictures from last week. I was going to work on the BH this weekend but was overcome by an insane urge to build another house...well two actually The chimney is almost finished on the exterior, just needs 1 or 2 more coats of acrylic paint, then 1 coat of matte varnish. Next chance to work on this awesome house is next weekend. I have thursday off but i want to finish building the Brimble's! That is a cool store

updated granville photos

7/11/08... I have some photos! This is the house so far...lots more work to do. I need to repaint the porch ceilings. they are a cream color that looks white. I have to paint them to match the railings...so...I need to finish off the roof, she didn't shingle one small roof section...and i removed the ugly trim along the roof peaks so i need to finish that off. Then it's the foundation... In the end i will put a trim piece over all exposed edges in front and back. I also need to put

Updated Foxhall photos

I finished the floor in the ladies sitting room. The flash on the camera really shows the white of the underfloor but it looks better in person. I also got the floor completely installed in the guys man upstairs room. So glad I decided to do the edging strip, it looks awesome in person. I need to polyurethane the wood floors but just thought i'd show photos! I glued in the carpet in the nursery and the wallpaper on the bottom portion of the wall (i didn't like what i had previously, this looks b

trimwork

I spent some time today sanding all the exterior trimwork (corner pieces and roof trimpieces)...after doing all that, i glued all the roof trim pieces in place and started on the two bay windows. I've decided that i'm going to stucco the house. I'm not up for all of the siding that needs to go on this house. I'd have to sand each piece and i'm just not up to fighting the warping of the strips. So i think it will look nice in stucco. I don't see that very often on this house so it will be another

tools

I wish i was proficient at using power tools. I'm not. I just figured out how to use my circular saw attatchment for the dremel. it's been a long time since i've used it. can't cut a straight line. I wanted to cut 6 new doorways in the foxhall but after attempting to cut one, i give up. It's not a big deal anyway, i was going to lose alot of wall space for furniture if i put in more doorways. wish i had decided this before i bought all the extra interior doors for this

tile floor progress on the foxhall

I have been working on the tiles floors on and off the past few weeks...the tile floor in the main hallway/foyer is obviously not finished but you get the idea...the flooring in the music room just needs the outter edge finished, hopefully i will make time this weekend to finish that off....i did the majority of it this past sunday. The flooring in the morning room (pink and grey tile) is completely finished. i just need to do molding and baseboards in this room and permanently glue in a firepla

This is going to be a fun rehab!

I really like this house! Removing the windows was pretty easy. I took the interior trim off and pushed the windows out of their holes from the inside of the house toward the outside, only one gave me some problems, they were easy to remove. I will have to repair the 2nd story door, it fell apart when i pushed it out. Shoulda used the utility knife to loosen it up. The porch railings came off pretty easy, they were for the most part, loose around the bottom edges...guess that was an

The lovely, stately, gorgeous Harrison!

January 19th, 2007. I finally got this house last week! It took alot of effort to not build it on the spot! I managed to wait almost a week before popping open the box! On tuesday, i officially broke the seal and removed all the sheets for inspection! I labeled each piece and removed them from their respective sheets. I finally got to sanding them on thursday (yesterday) and was so excited about starting the house I didn't take pictures. I fought with the front pieces a bit, trying

The Glencliff

This house is going to be huge! I haven't taken the parts out of plastic for a dry fit simply because there are too many of them and i don't know how i would store them again. The box they came isn't sturdy anymore and the parts are heavy...so when i do a dry fit, i will actually build the house...so for now the parts will remain wrapped in plastic. This is Lucinda Edwards, i love her face it is incredibly detailed. It's a darn shame i couldn't get better close ups...most of the pho

The chantilly by greenleaf

This house is getting closer to complete! sorry for the bad photos...the exterior stonework actually looks alot better in person...the flash really washes out the color. i need to paint a few more of the stones, i missed them when i did the painting. at some point i'll add landscaping and fill in the cracks with moss. I still need to shingle, touch up stain here and there on the inside, polyurethane all wood on the inside, low gloss finish to the painted trim on the outside, fix th

the chantilly and the pierce

April 20th, 2007. I'm working on the bash of an Arthur and the Pierce. I had a productive day. I added 1/2 inch height to my arthur foundation. I got most of the Pierce built (except the tower roof). The front porch roof gave me some fits and it's not perfect, but it isn't going to get any better, but at least it will do. When i moved the house down to the family room i of course grabbed it by the front porch roof <_< i need to re-glue part of it since it is now loose. That can wait unti

Tea Shop! New project

I've been wanting to do a tea room for some time and i've been wanting to build my Celerity Corner Store kit for some time. I had the idea last night to make it into a tea room and possibly gift shop. we shall see about that last part ;) I was really excited that this double front door fits perfectly. I ordered two bay windows for the first floor and victorian windows for the rest of the house. I still need to select some doors. On the first floor I will have the tea room. I decided

Storybook cottage

This will be a witch/wizard shop of some kind. I don't have alot of witch/wizard supplies at this point...so i don't want to set my mind on something and not be able to find the supplies that i want....so...i'll leave things open at the moment. I will paint the interior and probably age it...i want to create a dark mystical place...so lots of dark stained wood (hey no surprise there since all my projects seem to develpe dark stained wood  )...The attic will have wide wood plan

storybook

1/10/08 Got the building dirty washed, the bricks painted and the stonework just lightly painted. Overall it's not quite the look i was going for. I had pictured a lighter dirty wash. Should have started out lighter, then added more color if it wasn't what i wanted. My brickwork turned out with more of a purple look than i had wanted. I had imagined deep dark reds and browns for the bricks. Ah well, at least practice on this house will help with future houses. Today after running er

stonework

January 20th, 2007...wow I must be feeling worse than i thought, i almost put the year as 1997 I was thinking "paperclay" for the stonework on this house. Last night I got to thinking about the egg carton stonework I read about recently on this forum. Well, I have 2 1/2 bricks of paperclay, so i would need to buy much more to do my Harrison with. So lets figure about 5 more bricks and the cost at michaels is 5.49...hmmmm i may even need more than 5 bricks....well i have more than

starting to look like a house!

December 3rd. I accomplished alot this weekend!!! Starting in the dining room, I completed the angled wall as well as closing in the ceiling portion that had just a beam hanging there. I like the feel that it gives the room now that it's closed off. The wallpaper that i chose for that room turned out to be a mistake. I couldn't decide between it and the darker green. I settled for the lighter green because the pattern was different (the darker green has the exact pattern as the hallway wallpaper
