Walls O & P

Well, I thought I was finished paper claying this room and discovered walls O & P which needed to be installed. I decided to paper clay all inside walls. The two downstairs ones are stucco (the fireplace has a stone wall). The large room upstairs has stones on all walls in this room. I have not picked the fabric for the window seats yet but I know it will be blue.I have picked out my lights but I am still waiting on one of the ceiling lights. I have the light bulb in my fireplaces but I have

Unpainted But Finished?

I am finished with the basic construction of the house. I have finished my paperclay shingles and stained and assembled the front door and windows. I will not use the fence pieces that came with the house because the paper clay threw off the dimensions of it and I may use iron fences instead. I also LOVED the design of the plastic windows that came with this house, but I wanted a lead look so I scanned them into my computer and changed the color of the lines to black

The Roof - Part Two

well after waiting for all the glue to dry overnight....sometimes it is best to just walk away untill it is completely dry....believe me you will know when its time B) I finished my roof!now here I must add that because of the rocks added to the chimney before the roof my roof is crooked. it does not lay as it should....YET!after the last of the glue finishes drying I will take the trusty dremel and sand it all smooth and use wood filler for the small cracks and such. photo #1 is of the front

The Roof - Part One

well today I am stopped again not because of the kit...but because of my clumsyness. I have the back roof on and the main parts of the front roofas I was preping the chimney section of roof I sliced my thumb with my exacto knife...into my thumbnail as well.....OUCH!!! B) because of the rock on the chimney the roof peice will not go on.....Im almost to the point of cutting the small roof section off. as I am done for the night to let the liquid bandage do its job and let the glue on the roof

The Roof

I have started adding the paperclay to the roof. It is a little easier than doing the individual shingles. This is the picture of the first part I started:Everything looks pretty plain when it is not painted, doesn't it?Complements of My Mini Shop

the roof

I have run myself out of stain so I had to work on the roof. I bought some brown chocolate tub of paint and added some black to it and than some sand. before I painted I took the dremel and sanded the edges of the roof to make them more even. than I was very generous with the woodfill on the slots and where the roofs meet each other. that would be photo one. it also shows the brown paint before adding black and sand to it. photo #2 is of the roof painted with one coat of th

The Glencroft

I was so excited when I received this kit in the mail. I LOVE Cottages and Tudor cottages are even better!! I thought this house was going to be a piece of cake. Shucks, I had put together so many Greenleaf kits (some even bigger than this one). I was in for a BIG suprise!! On a level of 1 - 10 based on difficulty, I must say this kit is at an 7. There are SO many parts to it! When I first started on direction part A1 - A3 it went together similar to the others:

Stone Fire Place

I noticed it is time for me to start adding the beams and because I am no longer sure if I wish to use the wallpaper I had planned, I decided to paint the walls and add stones on the fireplace wall downstairs and upstairs. Now, I will add the beams! Complements of My Mini Shop

Staircases & Fireplaces

Well, it took forever and a Day to figure this one out. I was having problems trying to figure out WHERE the heck the stupid stairs & Beam went starting in section B4 and Section B5 and Section B6 After pulling my hair out, cleaning up the kitchen, coming back for another 30 minutes and still not getting it. Hubby took me for a walk to clear my head. Got back 1 hour later and STILL ;) could not figure it out. I found out Nutti was having a problem here too. I looked at the old forum and foun

slow progress

well I havent been blogging or working on miniatures very much. but I have had a few good days....havent been feeling well since 4th of July. but I have been making steady progress doing all those tedious things like sanding windows!and trim beams and it all has to be stained...I wonder if my hands will ever look normal? :o and than of course dont forget the endless nutti touchups. I cannot paint in one color without getting it on another and than that has to be touched up.....never ending cyc

Siding Strips for floors??

I wanted to do wood floors for sure in at least 2 rooms. The problem was, I did not have any wood flooring . I did not know what to do until I found my last two packs of Corona Birch Wood siding. I cut each strip to size and then glued each strip one at a time. After I completed the room, I sanded it and added wood filler to fill any gaps. After that I noticed I was completely out of wood stain (yeap, 11:30pm in Wisconsin, EVERYTHING is closed including some gas stations ). I

shingles, shingles, shingles

Although I haven't blogged in quite a while due to losing my password (as well as being entirely too busy to remain sane), I have been working on the Glencroft. I'm at the truly tedious part of the house, the shingling. The windows are hung and the doors in place. This turned out to be a very handsome house and I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to build it. B) I even have the perfect rug for it, or more accurately, part of a rug. I'm still stitching it and I have misplaced my

The windows are hung!I readjusted the door to the bathroom and rehung it; I'm still trying to prise off the trim around the kitchen door to fix it. I've masked around the inside of the right bay to finish spackling "stucco" in there and when it's dry I'm going to cut a piece of the wallpaper I used on the floor to do the window ledge. I need to make a pattern for shelves for under the right front window in the kitchen. If the woven red ribbon I bought isn't too wide I'll carpet the stairs tonig

september 8, 2005; or, it's finished

Not really "finished", but the construction is DONE!!! The front yard did not want to fit levelly across the fron t of the house, so I got insistent. The short fence sections take the seven pickets nicely at 1/2" intervals (center of one picket to the next); however, to continue this spacing on the longer (left front) fence sections takes only NINE pickets, not the ten suggested in the instructions. I used seven pickets on the gate. The whole fence got two coats of paint. &#

I popped out the yard pieces and began prepping them yesterday. I applied the edge pieces and step piece WRONG, I discovered today when I was able to collect all the scraps into the box bottom & study the picture on the box top. All the pieces have been popped off & glued back on. The gate went together really well, although the instructions tell you there are 12 gate pickets and you actually only use seven of them. I found the gate hinges in the first place I looke

The "slates" look more like asphalt shingles according to DH today, I have shingled the right & left ends of the roof and the rear and begun the front, and it does look as though the lacquer layer was not sufficient to keep them stuck down without rippling and rippling makes them look like wimpy asphalt rather than sturdy slate. I did try going back and regluing the edges down and where it worked they look better, so this is what I'll try before the last coat(s) of lacquer. It

I "guesstimated" that seven sheets of 9"x12" black construction paper would be sufficient to make roofing "slates" 1"x1", knowing I can make more if I must. I had bought a pack of all black construction paper on sale at Michael's a while back. First I pulled out seven sheets of paper and painted one side with lacquer and let it dry. On the other side I drew 1" grid lines with a #2 pencil, the graphite shows up really well & by using a bit of pressure to draw the lines the

I got the trim & kitchen door off in one, trimmed the door to FIT and rehung it.The stair "carpet" was a wee bit wide, but turned out not too bad; wish I'd found the ribbon before I had to install the left wall, it would have made the carpeting easier, but then I'd have gotten spackle on it & THAT wouldn't have come off! The red leather will work nicely. I had to piece the snug's windowseat, but it doesn't show. Somewhere I have some narrow braid to hide the jaggedy edge of the leathe

Roof Parts

I have added most of my roof parts without many problems. Because I used paper clay, I did have problems around the Chimney area because my chimney was too thick. I just took my hobby knife and cut a sliver of wood off so that the fit would be better.I stained the inside roof parts "Chocalate Brown" (the same way I did the floors).Complements of My Mini Shop

not a good time

Well I had to take a forced break from building the Glencroftdue to not being able to make heads or tails out of the directions. but I decided there were other things I could do so I moved on.in this house there is an area that has to be decorated before putting together and that would be the stairwell. it is to small to do anything after glueing. so I found my favorite paper to useand I Love it. I couldnt find the right color of blue to go with it so I used green and I am very happy with t

More Stones & Clay

I am so behind on blogging that today I promise to get everything up to date!! I have been delayed because I ordered lights for this house and I kept getting the wrong ones even after we found out that the item number has changed. Well, after getting the wrongs ones 3 times, I kept them and decided to paint them from there shiney brass color to black. I used paint that people use for the car models. Once I got passed that, I was able to move on because I did not know where to hide the wires if I
