  2. Liquor stores sell packs of turned toothpicks, which make nice baluster posts and porch rails in 1:24., and HO model railroad tunnels are what I used for chimneybreasts: I found actual 1:24 chimneybreasts in a miniature store in Richmond, VA:
  3. I want to wire my Fairfield for lighting. This seems to need more thinking through as I read through the build directions. I don't remember lighting being so difficult (but I could well be misremembering). But that was a 12 scale house with a lot more room to work inside. As this point I have the base built and am working the staircase. So now seems to be a good point to sort of plan out the wiring. Unless there is a better suggestion, I am planning on using the tape wire.
  4. Havanaholly - That's what I did sans the nursing books (I don't have any *L*). I used my ancient, but very heavy, high school yearbooks. It wasn't bad, so it flattened out well. I am still getting through my disappointment with the kit over all. *sigh* I started building the stairs and I just can't stand how awful the banisters and balusters look. So guess whose going shopping for those plus a newel post. I keeping reading ahead so I can plan wallpapers and such. The laughable fireplaces is needs replacing/rebuilding. Yuppers - The cheap inexpensive dollhouse will be about a 10K dollhouse by the time I am done. *L*
  5. you can go to my youtube @godmother209 and I have it uploaded on my channel. For some reason I couldn't link it on here.
  6. Thank you for the welcome. This looks to be an adventure for sure.
  7. Welcome to the little family.

  9. Hello all. New here and to the world of miniatures. Close to purchasing my first house. I'm looking at the Fairfield and a few others. Good news is wife is all in on the idea. Anybody know if Greenleaf has a retail shop at the Schenevus location?
  10. Hello Holly! Thank you for letting me know I'll go ahead and correct that right now. I was on my mobile phone when i did the post and I'm on my PC now.

I use premixed wallpaper paste from the hardware store, even with pre-pasted wallpapers (some of the borders have designs small enough to work in 1:12). If you use scrap book papers, get an extra sheet and test to make sure the paste doesn't make the colors run. I have also used some gift wrap paper successfully, as well as pretty papers from gift bags.

    What type of adhesive?
  13. Hubby came home with it....The thing is hugh on the outside and tiny on the inside...I have a few things to say about it, but Ill just say that it wasn't designed for a child to play with that's for sure. I tore out the ugly staircase, and all the archways in order to create more "living space". The bathroom/bedroom wall design must have been an after thought when someone realized that it was impossible for an adult to see down the other end of the bedroom, so they pushed it back a tiny bit for a child sized head to fit in there. Adult or child, doesn't matter when it comes to using your hand in that space....there is only room for one hand, your right hand only. Anyway the house is impressive to look at from the outside......5 bay windows is a bit much. The house came with the kit box full of remaining pieces and the Instructions to build it. I scanned the instructions and uploaded them in case someone might be looking for them. I also still have the pages showing all the pieces and I will be happy to scan them and add them to this album if someone needs them... Just let me know if you do. ;o)
  14. Hi everyone! Thanks for the replies! @MamaV I will upload to Google docs when I have stopped asking a number of questions (lol) and have this better organized. @LPCullen I particularly love glue tips. Thank you! Glue is my friend and nemesis at the moment. @havanaholly thanks for the laugh and the ongoing encouragement! Here is my Passover tableau. We celebrate all holidays here. Still very much under construction but I cleaned up the dust so that the two five year-olds who are coming can play, but not with these items. But they have their own toys! Those wine glasses and decanter are 45 years old! From my first dollhouse.

I use any brand scrapbooking paper that is acid and lignin free along with regular dollhouse wallpaper from a real dollhouse store/website. Might be a little more expensive but I really don't want to have to strip wallpaper and do it over. Scrapbooking paper is a decent weight similar to that of real dollhouse paper. Self-printed paper unless you have a really good printer with really good ink and I'm not sure what those are can run or fade on you later on. (Earth &Tree used to have a tutorial on how to print your own with good tips) I've had some success with contact paper but it can shrink over time and leave gaps around the edges of the walls/floors. Also some success with fabric glued on wall. RL wallpaper borders work too if images are in scale. It pretty much depends on what you're trying to accomplish in your house and how long you want it to last. You can always do a template and fix that to the wall and put the paper on that if you think you will want to change it later.

Im wondering what type of material people are using for wallpaper? What brand?
  17. If the warp isn't too bad and you have nice heavy books (I used my old Nursing textbooks to flatten warps), dampen the warped piece, lay it on a flat surface on a towel or absorbent paper, lay a sheet of waxed paper to cover it and weigh it down with heavy books or food cans. Sometimes if it's not too bad of a warp the construction process can straighten it out.
  18. Dana, I clicked on your link and got a 404 error.
  19. Thank you for the honest answers. At least it wasn't an expensive kit. After the higher quality of the other kits I've done, this was just very disappointing. To top it off, the foundation is slightly warped and needs to be flattened. *sigh* I don't live where I can have shop (small apartment), so creative options will be forth coming. Shannonc - Thank you for the link. However, the international shipping will most likely be an issue, darn it. ๐Ÿ˜ž

  21. Hello my name is Dana! I am a new member and the only thing I know about miniature dollhouses is watching my parents spend countless hours building what I am now trying to sell for my mother. I have a buyer that needs a weight on it. Itโ€™s the Visalian Victorian 7 room Mansion. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you. Dana๐Ÿ˜€ Link to video of visalian
  22. The plywood kits are mostly die cut and the plywood is 1/8" thick luan plywood, both to make the kits affordable and to make the finished houses lighter in weight for transport. Shaving, sanding and spackle can vastly improve the finished appearance. I make most of my doors and some of my windows, if I want them to work nicely.
  23. Welcome to the forum! And yes, that is pretty much the Greenleaf kits. Lovely designs but a huge amount of work to get them looking good. To push my own barrow, I design and laser cut my own 1:24 house/furniture/accessories kits if that helps. Link to my store in my signature below.
  24. you have a drool worthy list! I don't envy your position tho!
  25. It is difficult, but I was able to purchase some other kits that I have been wanting for years. So to be practical, I have to part with these kits. I will have some other House kits listed soon as I clear these out. I am in the office/craft room surrounded by boxes!
