  3. I LOVE burl! (Just ask Joel) Can't wait to see what hardware you come up with.
  4. Okay, yes that worked. I had tried shamy before but found it too thick. I didn't have any glasine, but as a baker I always have parchment around. I was worried it's no-stick nature would prove difficult, but it worked like a charm - and the color of parchment blends in with the natural wood. A million thanks, now I'm ready to tackle all of the cabinets! Note to self (and anyone else as short-sighted as I): Put your contact paper, varnish, shelves, or any other interior cosmetic work BEFORE you hinge the door. We live and learn 2 pics, hard to see the under-cabinet lighting. Will take this apart now to do the interior proper. Thank you again.

1/6 scale Guilded Age ILLUSION room box

Had LINEN cabinet using as curio. Kept thinking it would make a great room box by TURNING the cabinet on its SIDE. Since the cabinet is holding the TV, minimum 1" square dowels were placed in cabinet to support weight. Top shelf was stationary and has dowels glued so now unable to remove it. Plan will work with that 1st left area being an entrance/stairwell. Took out all shelves to the right and that will be a large narrow room. Since windows and doors do not open to outside diorama, scenes will be put in doors and window areas for realism. Hope you will FOLLOW progress on this about 1880-1890 1/6 scale scratch build items Guilded Age project.
  6. I've used strips of chamois. What about the little glasine envelopes people use to put stamps in? You could cut a folded strip to fit the edge of your cabinet door and glue one half to the door edge and the other half to the cabinet, taking care that the fold be to the inside of the cabinet (so the door opens outward).
  7. Working on my kitchen cabinets. All good except ... Anyone know if there are concealed hinges avail for scale 1:12. Everything I see are very traditional hinges. I sorta came up with a cabinet door stay, but it chews up a lot of interior cabinet space and it is not a good answer to my dilema. Anything avail or someone has a genious solution they have used or heard of??
  8. Thanks so much for the advice. Even though my shingles are stained, I had applied a few coats of matte polyurethane on top of the stain. I cleaned my shingles with a sponge brush and water. My shingles look brand new again! I will have to start cleaning the roof more often. I will definitely buy smaller attachments and invest in a vacuum cleaner brush. Power tools will definitely make cleaning easier!

  11. I've never really had a problem of dust accumulating but then I tend to hit mine with the vacuum cleaner brush when I'm dusting everything else. I have smaller attachments that were designed for cleaning computer keyboards that I use. I've also used canned air to spray dust away on some of my resin collectible houses. I lean towards power tools for anything especially cleaning.🤣

  13. Hello Everyone, How do I thoroughly clean my dusty shingles? My shingles are stained. I read on here from many years ago, some people use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean their shingles. What do you use?
  14. Karen, I love Spackle too! I love the Dap Drydex Spackle that is pink when it is wet and turns white when it is dry. I haven't been on here for a few months. I have read your most recent posts. You really have been busy with your Harrison! I give you so much credit to work on a dollhouse that wasn't painted prior to assembly. My neck would be hurting too! Have a great week. Lori
  15. Nice tips! Thank you! I do like to make my own when I can. Even if it's not a 'normal' fireplace.

    bedroom

This room has a very spacious feel to it. Very nice work. Scale is spot on.
  17. Liquor stores sell packs of turned toothpicks, which make nice baluster posts and porch rails in 1:24., and HO model railroad tunnels are what I used for chimneybreasts: I found actual 1:24 chimneybreasts in a miniature store in Richmond, VA:
  18. I want to wire my Fairfield for lighting. This seems to need more thinking through as I read through the build directions. I don't remember lighting being so difficult (but I could well be misremembering). But that was a 12 scale house with a lot more room to work inside. As this point I have the base built and am working the staircase. So now seems to be a good point to sort of plan out the wiring. Unless there is a better suggestion, I am planning on using the tape wire.
  19. Havanaholly - That's what I did sans the nursing books (I don't have any *L*). I used my ancient, but very heavy, high school yearbooks. It wasn't bad, so it flattened out well. I am still getting through my disappointment with the kit over all. *sigh* I started building the stairs and I just can't stand how awful the banisters and balusters look. So guess whose going shopping for those plus a newel post. I keeping reading ahead so I can plan wallpapers and such. The laughable fireplaces is needs replacing/rebuilding. Yuppers - The cheap inexpensive dollhouse will be about a 10K dollhouse by the time I am done. *L*
  20. you can go to my youtube @godmother209 and I have it uploaded on my channel. For some reason I couldn't link it on here.
  21. Thank you for the welcome. This looks to be an adventure for sure.
  22. Hello all. New here and to the world of miniatures. Close to purchasing my first house. I'm looking at the Fairfield and a few others. Good news is wife is all in on the idea. Anybody know if Greenleaf has a retail shop at the Schenevus location?
  23. Hello Holly! Thank you for letting me know I'll go ahead and correct that right now. I was on my mobile phone when i did the post and I'm on my PC now.

    Wallpaper

I use premixed wallpaper paste from the hardware store, even with pre-pasted wallpapers (some of the borders have designs small enough to work in 1:12). If you use scrap book papers, get an extra sheet and test to make sure the paste doesn't make the colors run. I have also used some gift wrap paper successfully, as well as pretty papers from gift bags.
