  1. great to see you all getting to spend some time together, especially your mum and her great, great grandaugther! My MIL died un April after speding 10 odd years living with dementia, it's a cruel way to end your days, my thoughts are with you all....
  2. Love the thread.....I work as an Office, only women with 18 men, I joke to people that I have 19 husbands, but only one I live with.....I've been there 5 years and love it! Have helped my husband self build our house (minis are so much easier) worked in offices in different industries for the past 22 years, worked in factories as well, shops, waitressed, was an Avon lady, laid carpet with my Hubby (his job). I'm 40 years old, here in NZ if you want to wait til you get your pension you can retire when you are 65 (25 years away) OMG that long! I'm laughing and hubby just asked what's so funny, I've just told him that I have another 25 years til I can stay at home, he said not likely! My mums 68 and she still works 40+ hours a week, he thinks I should be good for it to! I have news for him and it's all bad.....WANTED CONTRACT KILLER FOR A LITTLE JOB
  3. I've been buying the 40% off stuff for a few weeks now, I have to limit myself to $100.00 a time as it costs another 50 to ship it to me, but I've got some really good stuff and Charles and his staff are really good to deal with, I was a bit worried in the begining as a couple of posts here did not give them glowing reports, but they where only 1 of a few that replied to my e-mail query, so they got my business......And I' sure that I'll stick with them when they move (LOL makes no drifference to me)....The 40% off + freight means I get the stuff at full price, and that's a real saving to me.... Now just need to work out how much left over money I have this week....24 Pages of bits to check out
  4. OMG!!!!!! I can't believe you even asked us! Buy of the century I'd say! Let us know how you get on, has she talking started yet? (ESP since you have not picked her up). Any idea about how build she is? What are your plans for her?
  5. Maybe, shes modest and won't talk because she's nude, maybe you need to cover her with a cloth to give her some modesty.....Then she might tell you what she wants to be dressed in. Other than that my only suggestion is you sit down with her in front of the computer and show her some ideas that you like and see if she likes any of them. Maybe she will see something in the window shoping that really takes her and your fancy! I'm the 33 person to read this post and the first one to reply, but I'm sure we'll not the only ones who has had the problem. My last doll house I brought as a cafe, and it turned into a bridal shop! So wait and see what she wants, other than that the cloth might be there for a little while.
  6. Hi Michelle, I've been reading your posts, glad to see you have not given up! The doll house your doing I think has a really good lay out, and your lucky to be able to build it (us down under would need to sell the baby to be able to afford it). lol! Keep at it, I can't wait to see it papered, then painted, furnished and nearly finished, (dollhouses are never done i'm told).
  7. Your houses can't get any better, they are the best! I just love looking at them all! And as for the stories, I like the way they link to each other. Keep up the good work.
  8. Hi Casey, Just read the first post to my DH, he said the biggest fruit loop is the one in the middle making the pillows, now he's laughing out Loud, and has started one of the dogs barking in support! It never droll in our house....
  9. Thanks Casey for all your tutorials, they are really good, infact your whole bolg is full of tips and instructions........... I went to make a pillow yesterday, remembered you had some instructions, then realised I do not have the main material (lol)...So I'm waiting on sons girfriend to turn up to see if she will give me an unused one.....either that or I'll by a box and make a few pillows to use the box up! lol again!!! Thanks for all your help :missing:
  10. Very nice, can't wait to see it finished, also have had a read of your blog, have added it to my fav's and will check on it when I look at Casey's.... Now I think I need to "put my money where my mouth is" and go find some nice material etc to make one myself! So tomorrow after work I'm off to town to see what I can find!
  11. Some of those beds looks like they could be cheaper ones.......Some lace, some silk, some other fabrics, and some skills (cannot for get them) and a bit of practice, and the world is our oyster.....One of our members Casey has picutre and written instructions on how to do a bed from scratch, so maybe we could all give it a go and supply some eye candy for each other.......or at least a good laugh at our first attempts.......and think what you can do with the rest of the money... I do not begruge paying for a really nice bed, pillow, hat etc, but if we can build a house we should be able to make a bed..... Thanks for the links they are good for ideas!
  12. Great Buys, I think it's really good to have heaps of bits to be able to start a house with.......or two or three..... And it's nice to be able to see pictures of things brought at a show, instead of a on line store. Thanks
  13. Didn't she keep them in a cage and they poked a chicken bone out between the bars for her to feel to see if they had put on enough weight to be cooked up...... Could you hang the cage in the middle of the back room, so it looked really scarry. How about the name butcher or cook in french or german for the witch/nice old lady.... What about her witches clothes hanging up in the wardrobe, with the door open: Even a witches broom might be enough to give the idea...Also, how do we know she is a witch that flies, she might of lost her licence cause she's too old with the bad eye sight! In the words of a shoe company, Just do it!
  14. When someome asks about the money I spend I comment that it's the packet of smokes I don't buy,the 700.00 dress I do not wear.....The full sized lounge suite I love, so I find the same one in mini...... If they don't like it tough luck, it's my hobby and that's that! I do not have to talk about it (so maybe I donot talk at all in company some thimes). But I find people who do not get it, usally have very small minds and have nothing better to do that talk about other people and the soaps they are watching, their homes might be tidy, but they do not have a creative bone in their bodies....(Some times I'm nasty I need to bite my tounge, but this is how I feel about the hobby). Enjoy it, as any one who has nothing nice to say just does not have a life....
  15. From reading all the posts would it be fair to say that men fall in to certain catergories. Not necessary in this order (but I can't cut and paste for some reason). Those that love and support us, but won't help. (but don't whinge about the money we spend). Those that love and might support us, do'nt help but bite their lip at the money we spend. Those that love and support us and help. (even buy us powertools). Those that love and support us and take over or join in our hobby. Those that love and support us, but don't want to see another doll house enter the property. Those what love us, but not our hobby. Those that love us and HATE our hobby. And those that we left................... I'm not saying, leave a husband if he don't like dollhouses, it's just the feeling I get that as women (sorry gents) get older and wiser, our need to stay with an unsupportive hubby waynes and our need for friends, family and hobbies takes over.....Usually aftert the kids leave and you finally have time to do things you want! and not just the laundry and house work........ After all we married these gents for something other than our hobby! But peole grow and change over time, and we need to as a couple remeber this. As I have said before I have a great husband (who truth to tell, ticks as many things to buy on the mini web sites as me, and then offers to pay for them as they are his selection) but if any one asks it's my hobby, but that's fine by me, its our secert and I love him for it.....
  16. I read the blog eery couple couple of days.....I like to have a couple to read at once....So it's my special read so to speak, It always has good ideas, shows you how to do some special things and lets you know that anything is possible with time and talent - a lot of talent.... it's worth having in your favorites just beside greefleaf!
  17. Don't you hate that, you buy it only to find one you get it that it's not quite like you thought it was.... What would it look like if you did the bottom 2 stairs going intothe side wall. then on the next floor up have either a door way so it looked like the steps came out there, or the top stair rail showing so that it looks like the stairs are behind the wall.....at bit like the McKinley, would also maybe work if you needed to hid a bathroom or something, that door going no where.. Only other sugustion would be do you bash the back and put the stairway along the back of the dollhouse and maybe a room on the other side, that way the house would be deeper and give the ability to have more rooms, but have the front look standard....and if you only did the first 2 floors the roof would still fit. Myself I hate things that are not real, but not being able to figure it out more.....like I've been told on another post if you do not do it how you want you will not be happy! I agree with that! Let us know what you decide.
  18. http://www.hirstarts.com/gallery/gallery.html Found the site, have a look between what the members have done here, and other sites will give you lots of ideas! Heres a picture as well.
  19. Hi Gina, It's nice tobe able to see all of someones houses at once in a slideshow. Thanks for setting it up! They all look really great! where do you keep them all! lol!
  20. Hi Anna, Have a look at Earth and Trees site, they have a scotish keep (I have a copy of the plan). They also have a modern spanish house that DH thinks with a little remodel eg made with higher outside walls with the "step" bits cut into them would work as a castle of about the 12-18th century..... There is nothing to say that you have to build the whole castle two towers and the bit inbetween is about all I have seen on anysites that anyone has done. I'm talking English type not Greman/disney/ black forest type....They are another kettle of fish completely! There is also another site (will have to find it, but some one else here may have the link) of a gentleman who sells moulds for castles etc (not only is 1/12 but smaller scale) and there is a lady on a link from his who has made a 4/5 floor castle and it is breath taking.....A little dirfferent from a "house" but it started my hubby looking at castles.... There is not a lot around to fill a castle if you wanted to keep it to a certain period, but I'm slowly getting a list together, once I know there is enough to buy the plan will get built.... Minis on the edge (tracy) is building one of E&T castle/turdor build on and it's really nice as well....Large when it's finished. Let us know how you get on....
  21. Big problem for a little hobby is in't.... Over here we have a new lot of shelving called ladder shelves, basically the are a set of shelving that are bigger on the bottom than at the top....a sort of triangle. That way the smaller houses could go at the top, but you can still see them as they are not towering above you, (that a feeling I get when bookcases etc go to the roof). DH pointed them out to me and suggested that if I put them on casters you could turn them around to see in the houses....with out having to "man handle" them all the time. Then the next suggestion out of his mouth was that if he custom build them around the size of the house, I could landscape around them and they could look like they where houses on the hill.....Out of the mouths of husbands...lol. So now instead of only being able to build x number and fill the tables in the only spare room in the house (my promise was that I would only inhabbit that room)...I can now go 2 walls 12x12x8.....And hopefullu make my village look really real! Then there's the suggestion that I put a lake in for a certain house boat....The suggetion of a camping ground, trailer etc, and donot ask about the ideas for the bus! My hobby yeah right!
  22. Get him to put them infront of the oven (stove), that way there will be no cooking going on...How can you cook, you will change the controlled climate!!! In New Zealand you can murder someone and life here is between 7 & 14 years not life like the US! there is a saying here that marriage is for life, you only do 7 for murder LOL! I'm glad to hear your son has helped by gluing your doll back together (not that she's the same as she was). Maybe she can be a "disabled" aunt with her arm in a sling or something.....I'm sure she will be happy with lots of new friends coming to live with her! As for the hubby, work our what you can make with the lathe and drillpress and start mini-ing with them! If you can't bet them use them!
  23. It's calling my hubby, but when you add the 150 or so to ship and then add 25% to get it to NZ money I'd be looking at over $ 375.00 for it! As it is at the moment I have paid for other dh thru evil bay and have not heard from the seller in a days.... Waiting until Tuesday 1 week after auction closes then I'll start getting my money back..... but that's another story/post! i hope someone who loves it gets it.
  24. I see that there is one on e-bay, I have kept an eye on it, but see it is already over 100.00! Bring back the Beaumont......PLEASE!
