If you have a decent library close by, try looking there for books on Victorian decor. My local library is small, but I have found all sorts of interesting reference materials there. Reference books on interior design, antique furniture, and architecture may all have images that will help. Also, don't forget the "Painted Ladies" Victorian home books. They mainly focus on the exterior paint combos, but they also feature a few interiors as well--the Daughters of Painted Ladies has a couple that feature some beautifully decorated homes with period furniture. A Google "Images" search of "1890 house interiors" brings up hundreds of photos. They may not all be exactly what you are looking for, but using the suggestions Kelly gives above, you can narrow it down. The nice thing about searching "Images" is that you don't have to click in to each website, they all appear on the screen. You can cut and paste out the ones you like (if you have Word or PowerPoint) and many can be resized (enlarged) to see the detail. Good luck! Tappy

We made them from polymer clay in my local mini club a few years ago...yes they can't be readjusted once they are baked, but they still came out pretty cool. We also made the nozzle end from gold colored clay mixed with brown. The project lead that meeting had different colors and dolled them out so we each mixed our own. Was a lot of fun and came out quite well even for beginners! I made a coiled one to either be in a pile or could sit on a bracket, and a squiggly one for the flower bed...If your daughter isn't going to water the mini plants this may be the option. Tappy

Thanks for posting the history Selkie! I was wondering when they used to start/finish, but hadn't gotten around to trying to find the old posts... And I agree, last year's Fling project with options was absolutely fabulous--if they are working to top or even match that one we are in for a real treat! I also agree with Morgan--we are trying to be patient, so lack of posts are not lack of interest or anticipation...I just didn't want to keep posting questions about when it will start and become known as the Greenleaf Fling Nag!! I am going to be out of the office for a few days around the Memorial Day Holiday (no access to computer), so I am sure it will happen then--that is when things always happen!! That is why I always appreciate a two week opportunity to get the kit and options with the free shipping!... Tappy

I went to my local Michael's last weekend and they only had the moss pot toppers which is just sphagnum moss, not the fine pretty stuff featured above...the stock in this area was pretty sparse, so I am not sure if they don't carry it or just didn't have it that day... Yes, I notice they have been on sale a long time...kind of a comfort to know you can always go back and get components for any SF UFOs! I also noticed the Founding Father's Day Sale is still showing from...well, not sure when, it just says to order by Sunday at midnight! Got an email today for a discount on the HBS Creatin Contest kit...I am holding out for the Fling! I figure if I am going to buy a kit and not finish it, it has to be a GL SF kit--why break tradition?!...Besides, the HBS kit is cute, but hasn't said a word to me! Tappy

Yes that is interesting Paris vs London, but maybe it is just easier to have English speaking people in England than try to pretend it is France?...Does it seem like the book will only cover season one? They have obviously left the tv show open for season two--with the scorned fiance plotting her revenge and all... I will definitely read the book if they don't resolve the plot lines on the tv show, unless the book ends the same as season one! Is it a good read? Is the translation ok? Tappy

Our local PBS station has been airing a lot of great costume or 'time period' dramas--both The Paradise & Mr. Selfridge mentioned above, along with The Bletchly Circle, Father Brown, and Call the Midwife--all great 1950's stuff, both urban & rural...and the new Upstairs Downstairs which has been a bit of a whirl-wind from, I think early to late 1930's--(I also have gotten the 3 seasons of Land Girls from my local library, set in WWII, which also has great late 30's style). And of course Downton Abbey... Sorry to hear The Paradise was only two seasons--hopefully it will have the plots resolved and not leave us hanging like so many American TV series that get cancelled... Tappy

Oh my gosh, has it been 5 years?! That is when I bought the kit (that is still in the box!)... I did a search of the Greenleaf Gallery using the term "Beach" and found all kinds of beach huts & houses--this is a great way to check out the different materials used for roofs, etc. to see if you like the look before you buy the materials... And isn't it great that there are no cockroaches, ants, termites, etc. in mini land unless we want there to be?! And no building codes, zoning, or other regulations?! Tappy

The one Michael's I went to had the small endcap of minis--I bought the copper colored bistro set--the scale is somewhere between 1/2 and 1 inch, and the pieces don't seem to be all the same scale (table larger than the chair scale), but it was cute...when I asked about the fairy garden stuff, the clerk looked at me like I had two heads and did not even mention the minis--I just found them by browsing... I have the kit, but have not built it yet...I think it would make an adorable surf shop! And yes, I agree, a palm leaf, or grass (possibly made from raffia) would be neat as a roof! I know someone did a little beachy shack years back and did the grass roof--I am not sure what kit was used... This time of year Dollar Tree usually has their Polynesian themed cook out stuff (leis, grass skirts, etc.) which might have items that you could use. I saw ice cube trays one year that were like the carved masks--maybe they could be used as molds? I look forward to seeing your creation! Tappy

Hmmm...without a hint or bit of info on the timeline--even if it is vague--from GL or the GL Mods Squad, it is difficult to decide if the excitement should be channeled elsewhere in the short-term or longish-short term? (Like cleaning the craft area and sorting through box of miscellaneous minis--though this takes more than excitement to get started for sure!)... It is hard for some of us A-D-D folks to maintain focus on anything, let alone focus on something not quite yet there?! It is kinda like being a kid waiting for Santa on December 27th (when he didn't make on Christmas)?!...not sure when he is going to show up?! But still believing he is coming some day! I have seen some interesting brass tacks at the Lowes/Home Depot that could make neat door-knobs... and those stick on scrapbook gems added to the plain earring posts (for create your own earrings) might make a neat crystal door knob. I was reading an old interior design magazine and one of the featured homes had porcelain faucet handles (hot & cold) used as whimsical door knobs. Tappy
