Welcome from another Southern California girl!

A very generous member of my miniatures group gave me all three of the Houseworks "Street of Shops" kits, which I am slowly but happily putting together. More photos and details can be found here -- https://mathomhouse.typepad.com/bluestocking/miniatures-street-of-shops/

This is a superb kit from Arjen Spinhoven. My finishing skills are not even close to being up to the quality of this kit, but I am pretty happy with the piece. It is based on a real piece of furniture, made by G-Plan -- http://www.antiques-atlas.com/antique/g_plan_mid_century_teak_room_divider_shelving/as693a019 -- beautifully and cleverly reduced to 1:12 scale. -

The back of the 1950s room divider. This is a superb kit from Arjen Spinhoven. My finishing skills are not even close to being up to the quality of this kit, but I am pretty happy with the piece. It's too bad that I couldn't get that central shelf support completely straight, but it was a hair-raisingly fragile piece, and I didn't want to risk breaking it! -

When the instructions say, "Be careful to glue the two layers in the correct direction" and you think you're being careful, be sure you don't inadvertently turn one of the pieces around when applying the glue, as you will have to cut new notches in the MDF! -

Martha Stewart craft paint in "Magellan Blue," on top of the Behr Marquee "Mega Blue" that was just a bit too much. -

Cupboard or cabinet houses were quite popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. I wouldn't be surprised if many playhouses (I mean ones for playing with, not the higher-end show houses) started out as small cupboards! https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/special-auction-services/catalogue-id-srspe10235/lot-4193db7c-c7df-4cfa-b363-a82600ef1f0e https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-a-six-room-dolls-house-the-cupboard-early-5169348/? https://www.liveauctioneers.com/price-result/18th-century-english-cabinet-dolls-house/ https://www.theriaults.com/19th-century-richly-furnished-cabinet-house I would love to find one of those lawyer's bookcases, too. I've got dibs on my mom's curved-front glass cabinet for just such a project ...!

Venus Dodge has a section in her New Dolls' House Do-It-Yourself book on kind of pipe-cleaner armature dolls that @havanaholly mentioned. All of her books are excellent resources.

You will learn a lot from the folks here for sure, they are very helpful and inspiring! My first build was for my then 7-year-old daughter, who played with it for a few years then decided that she wasn't that interested any more, so it's mine again now!

Here's to lots of wonderful memories for both you and your great-granddaughter!

Two chairs for the tea shop, the mid-century modern dining chairs from Arjen Spinhoven. An excellent kit, went together like a dream! I will probably age them a bit. -

These are the Chrysnbon dressmaker's dummies kit, two in the box. I removed the skirt cages and shortened the stands (from the bottom, so as not to lose the placement disk at the top). Painted with some old ecru house paint, then aged with smudges of browns and black. -

Behr Dynasty/Marquee sample pot in "Mega Blue" from Home Depot. -

I did the old sandpaper "stucco" trick on the two bay windows -- I quite like it, actually! I forget now which grade it is, a middling one. -

The blue is a Behr Dynasty/Marquee sample pot in "Mega Blue" from Home Depot. I think it's a bit too mega, to be honest .... -

McQueenie does some beautiful Tudor furniture, quite grand so definitely suitable for a castle -- https://www.mcqueenieminiatures.co.uk/ Medieval Morsels on Etsy has wonderful period food items in polymer clay. She has been "taking a break" since August 2022, but I'll put the link here for when she comes back -- https://www.etsy.com/shop/medievalmorsels?ref=usf_2020

Renovating a simple dollhouse for my first attempt

Welcome! I'm sure there is a lot of inspiration here on this forum. I know Brae @otterine has done a number of haunted houses, and her work is stunning. -
Welcome, Nancy! I look forward to seeing your photos. I'm not that familiar with Lawbre, so my jaw dropped when I saw a photo of the Shadow Cliff -- https://lawbre.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=22&chapter=20 What a treasure -- lucky you! The folks here are very friendly and helpful, so just jump right in!

I'm still not completely happy with my hand-painted lettering, but it's *not* easy, and with luck there's enough going on that people won't notice! I didn't do any aging on this shop -- I thought about it, then decided that it's a lot newer than the carpet shop next door! -

Yes, the bay window is noticeably crooked -- it came that way. I decided to live with it. -

Still need chairs, and some table linens ... and tea, of course!
