    Christmas Wishes

Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope you all get to enjoy some time with people you love - or doing things you love.
  3. Jeannine, I made soap for over a decade. Tell your relative to go to Brambleberry.com for scents/oil - there is a link there to a blog from Mary (the soap "queen" who knows her stuff. There is tons of blogs and forums - I'd advise reading a bit first. Tell her it is easy to go overboard with ingredients (like with minis) and to maybe start simple. She can buy stuff for her first soap in grocery stores (coconut oil for foam, sunflower oil, lard (for foam) and olive oil and use essential oils. the lye is the only thing I would buy from a dealer to get cosmetic grade.
  4. Matt, congratulations! What a wonderful Christmas for both of you. It looks beautiful and has space for work - I'll call that a win!

    Time Out

Good to see you back, Mike! It's not been quite the same without you here.
  6. Hello Mareike, sorry to hear the Glencroft didn't work out. If you are looking for solid house kits, I would suggest to check out dolls house direct - they will offer a Harry Potter themed kit soon. I believe it will be the Great Hall? And also maplestreet. Both are in the UK - so the shipping might not break the bank. I'll post the links to their websites for you: Maplestreet Dolls House Direct And a picture from the prototype: Great Hall

    Hurricane Nate

All safe and sound - even cleaned up my yard somewhat. I'm at the north shore of the Biloxi Back Bay, so we only had winds but no storm surge. Power and Internet is on - the troops on the ground here are doing great work. People were well prepared, those that had to, did evacuate - that helped a lot.

    Hurricane Nate

Just checking in - we are expecting 11ft storm surge - I'm lucky to be high (maybe not so dry with the rain and all that..... ). Everything is prepped - hurricane cooking done. All I have left to do is fill the bathtub with water and I'm set and ready. Going to be a bit of a whopper though. Good luck to all of you - stay safe!
  9. Well, if you need help unpacking - I'm organized and got a boxcutter with spare blades. - Gimme a ring, I'll pm you my phone number. Can't help you packing, but unpacking is no problem.

    Hurricane Irma

Short update from Mississippi - no changes in weather - the cold front over the gulf keeps it east of us- which sadly makes that the Western Shore of Florida. Stay safe my friends! Irma is down to a category 3 right now - but the amount of water she is pushing ahead of her and what she will bring with her on the east is devastating. Our power company in Gulfport has already dispatched Linemen, search and rescue and other specialists - but no one can tell when they can actually start. Currently they are all held in staging areas together with the teams from other states. Wish I had better news.

    Time Out

Happy Birthday, Mike - you are missed so very much.
  12. Hello Everyone - it's been a while....... a lot of life has happened: some good, some not so good - and as always in life: some tragedies as well. In early March my mom's treatment met with some complications which led to her passing in late April. Trying to get my family sorted while finishing up my degree has been quite a ride..... As my mom has never dwelled on the bad, let's move on to the positives in life: I finished my Masters, took the licensure and passed, got a 12 week contract right out of school and I will start my new permanent job on the 23rd of August. There hasn't been a lot of time (or energy) to work on minis - but I did get a fantastic little masterpiece from IGMA fellow Linda Cummings and it made a lot of things a whole lot better. I am easing myself back into my houses - I still need to finish my Cape house (as if I am anywhere near finishing it - I can't even decide on what to do with the bathroom....). Anyhow, I've been checking in here from time to time - lots of new members: Welcome all to the crazyness of the miniature world! Chris
  13. I am so sorry that I wasn't able to get away from this work/school stuff going on here, but i am glad that Holly was able to be there for you, Kathie. On another note: Lawanda would only be 12 mins from my house....so maybe hurry this whole relocation thing?
  14. Dear Kathie, there are no words to tell you how sad I am to hear this. I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to meet Lloyd, to have shared meals with him, and enjoyed his company. I will treasure his memory as one of the most bright and colorful people I have ever met. Thank you for sharing Lloyd with me. If there is anything I can do let me know. i'm sending you prayers, strength, and my most heartfelt wishes to help you through this time.
  15. I thought someone might be able and go look for all of us...

    Zia

Hello Zia, I guess without pictures it's hard to determine what you have. Value in dollhouses is mostly dependent on the state it is in, who made it, if it can be rehabbed (or to what extent) and then also on how much someone is willing to pay. Of course you find Haecker houses on auction sites with high price labels; however, that doesn't mean it sells for that. If I were you, I would most definitely get some really good and detailed pictures, load them to flickr or some other photo hosting site and post the link here. We have some really knowledgeable people around that might be able to help you more in terms of value or where to go for an appraisal.

I think this version looks more complete - or maybe refined? I like this better than version 2
  19. Welcome to the forum, JennaLynne (& Husband....)!
  20. Welcome to the forum, Ellen!
  21. Welcome to the forum, Laurie!
  22. A few antiques on ebay - real eye candy.....: Gottschalk House Christian Häcker House Another Gottschalk A few potential deals: Lawbre Peddler's Cart Artply Highland - too expensive though... A vintage Cape Cod I haven't seen before Skilcraft Victorian Manor with Coach house Arrow Tudor with free shipping... A $50 Newberg - so we can all sell it for a few thousands of dollars And last but not least: A$25 Glencroft And with this I'll get off ebay now....
  23. What about an online auction house or dealer? Depending on the age of the collection you might find one who is willing to take it all - but, I really don't think you'll get away with not taking any photos to create that interest. As far as ebay: long time ago I sold a Barbie collection (and a while after several boxes of books) - I 'created' collections - photographed the items and packed them right after I checked the photos, made the listings, and was able to basically slap a postage label on each box as I sold it. You might want to think about putting in a weekend to do it that way. To keep track, I used numbered post-its when taking pictures, and wrote the same numbers on the boxes. Other than that - I still have a few days off - if you could post pictures, I could try and help identify what you need. I am sure some of the researchers here won't mind helping you out either.
