  1. From the album: Model Homes Cape May Victorian

Shingling is finished! I need to paint the roof ridge and glue into place. I am also laying copper on the flat areas.
  2. From the album: Model Homes Cape May Victorian

Working on trimming out the eaves.
  3. This might give you an idea of how different ceilings can be in an old house. This is a link to pictures of the ceilings at San Francisco Plantation between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Very ornate to say the least. I love this house! You could possibly do this with mural papers. https://www.google.com/search?q=ceilings+of+san+francisco+plantation&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj7g4XZy77UAhXE44MKHX1cBLUQsAQINA&biw=1280&bih=904#imgrc=_
  4. I also emailed the seller yesterday. She has responded a couple of times and is grateful to be told what brand and model of the house. I sent her a link to the RGT forum with a picture of the house so she could be sure. She asked if it was priced right. She has no idea as she is not a collector. She also asked for other places where she could possibly list it. I mentioned Etsy and her local Craiglist. I mentioned this forum as where I first saw the listing posted. She may check this site out as well. I would love to have it but just no room. BTW Emily, I have the 1/2 scale First Lady in my stash. I probably paid too much for it, but it is there waiting on me! Here is the updated link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Real-Good-Toys-First-Lady-Dollhouse-Assembled/192215870925
  5. I have to agree with all of you! The members and admins make this a great place to share ideas, give encouragement, and have fun!
  6. Woo Hoo! So happy for you! I think the VB like that one would be such fun to rehab.
  7. Here is a great buy on a Van Buren & HOM kits for anyone in the Joplin - Springfield MO area. (I have started looking there as my sister lives in Joplin). I wish I could get this one! https://springfield.craigslist.org/for/6155889725.html
  8. I've added a few more items! I found a stash of modern lighting chandeliers and lamps that I decided I was not going to use!
  9. Has anyone seen this before or used it? I recently bought a box of electrical supplies on eBay. Lucky me the price and cost of shipping alone was worth it in the 3 Cir-Kit Transformers! There are several packages of these. I have never seen them, and anxious to try them!
  10. I'm not sure if this would help, but this seller on eBay has several decals for dishes and furniture. I am sure they could be used on walls and floors. Here is just one of the listings. It is from Australia, but if all else fails . . . shipping is expensive, but if you place a large order it might be worth the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MICROSCALE-1-12-SCALE-MINIATURE-DECAL-01-50-EARLY-AMERICAN-STENCILS-DECAL-/112396498120?hash=item1a2b5a74c8:g:t4MAAOSwjqVZDB8T
  11. I did an inventory and resorted my "collection". I think I have cornered the market on no longer made windows and doors. Plus all kinds 1/2 scale of furniture kits. My supply of wood trims and strips are staggering. But slowly, it is being put to good use. I think it is just all part of the hobby!
  12. A Great looking Duracraft Victorian on eBay right now. $75 starting with local pick up in NJ. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorian-Dollhouse-Kit-Mansions-in-Miniature-Dura-Craft-VH600-scale-1-034-1-039-/172669042876?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 Yikes! That is one expensive window! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Double-Working-Window-Dollhouse-miniature-wood-1-12-scale-/182569908564?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
  13. I am really happy with how the shingles are looking. This is the first time I have stained cedar shingles. They look much more natural this way since they do age to a silver grey in real life. The tables have had years of abuse and the tops were water stained. I was unable to re-finish them, so I am painting the tops. The paint is darker in person. One more coat of paint to go and then a clear coat!
  14. Shingling the Cape May . . . . and shingling and shingling . . . . At least I am also working on another household project (the real life tables) while the rows of shingles dry. I am also applying the bricks to the foundation, and doing some painting on the exterior! I am certainly busy with it!
  15. I used the method of steel wool in vinegar for grey stain on shingles. I let it soak for a week. The steel wool dissolves in the vinegar. I thinned it some with water during the dying process. I did a test of a couple of shingles for color. It only took about 5 - 7 minutes total to get them this.
  16. I hadn't heard that. I have had mine 2 years or so, and use it not only for minis but other tasks. I've used it quite a bit on the Cape May.
  17. I'll jump in here. Unless I missed it, no one mention the Dremel Trio. I LOVE mine. It does so many tasks!
  18. Check the first or 2nd picture in this gallery. It has my color scheme for the house.
  19. It is just a roll of steel wool and a quart of vinegar. I let it soak for a week. The steel wool dissolves in the vinegar. I thinned it some with water during the dying process. I did a test of a couple of shingles for color. It only took about 5 - 7 minutes total to get them this color. Anything longer and they would have turned completely black.
  20. I found this on eBay. They were made in the 70s. I have two more of their kits, the San Francisco. It is basically the Cape May, but no large wing with the two dormers. I thought I would bash them together!
  21. From the album: Model Homes Cape May Victorian

FIrst coat of color is on the outside!
