They are pieces or panels of wall you build up, the same construction as Dura-Craft kits. They are usually are 4 clapboards per piece. The interior sides of the panels are smooth.

No, the addition was open sided to only have one wall thickness between the rooms. I ran the glue along the floors/ceilings and very heavy on the foundation.

When I put the RGT 2 story addition onto the Cape May, I glued it on with Titebond wood glue. It has held for 3 years now with no issues. I have moved the house several times, and it is just as strong as the rest of the house.

It does look like MDF. I added to my Cape May house a wing extension from Real Good Toys. It is made from MDF and the exterior wall looked like the pictures on Otterine's site. I lightly sanded, then used a primer coat of some old white latex paint I had on hand. I then gave it 3 coats (latex) of the final color. I lightly sanded between all the coats. Close inspection, you can see it is MDF, but most people will never know it is not from the original kit. I probably could have done more coats of paint and gotten is smoother, but . . . I was tired of working on that one area of the house. I have the SW Crafts Fantasy Island house waiting on me, and now I know it will be the same.

Been there, and given away some houses. I recently got a almost free Grandville for cheap, assembled. Knowing how rare, I took it. Luckily, I have a walk up attic, so there it sits. One day I will get to it, probably rebuild it so I know it will stay together. Finds like that are hard to pass up. I have cleaned out my stash of other kits, but, hmmm, go figure, it still grows. I just recently acquired a very rare Opening Scenes Wuthering Heights kit. It us the house from the 1930s movie. It's an addiction, go with it!

Thank you so much for the compliments! It was so much fun to build and create the cottage. The bathroom was an easy add to the kit. I cut the door on the side for the room access. The room itself is made of Foam Core Board, then covered in scribed sheets on the inside and board and batten on the outside. You would be able to extend the floor across for more room. I had given this some thought for the bathroom, but I wanted to keep the open living area. If you are hesitant to use the 1/8" plywood for the additions, you could use FC Board or Gator board for the floor. I would then use trim to cover the difference in the floor thickness. By doing this, you could easily move the staircase and even the wall between the downstairs rooms. Let your imagination go wild!

We were very lucky. No wind damage at all. Our 150 yr old house strong. Not a creak or a groan the whole time. And let me tell you it was a Nasty, Nasty Storm. The generator is running the refrigerator and freezer, fans, and occasional TV. I am working from home, so it is keeping my laptop powered up. I just finished up my work for the day (not much to do as normal with half our facilities closed). We have gas cooktop and water and sewerage service, so we can cook and take showers, etc. I will be catching up on my reading and hopefully working on the First Lady!

Just a quick note that we made it through the storm. No damage to the house. But our 80+ yr old pecan tree took a beating. Several limbs in the street and neighbors driveway. Now dealing with no electricity and no idea when it will be restored. Luckily we have a generator and access to gas to keep it running. But it doesn't power the AC. So you all know with our humidity . . . Been spending time working from home on my work laptop (glad I bought it home). And spending time on the front porch, where it is so much cooler than inside the house. Looks like I will be catching up on reading and work on the First Lady. It could have been much worse. So very thankful. All my family and friends came out unscathed as well. Matt
