    Tudor Cottage

    This looks SO beautiful!!
  2. Thanks, everyone! I moved into my grandparents' home next to my parents and near all of my relatives out in the country. It's good to be home -- in the house and on the forum! The next thing I'm going to do for Ollie is roof the house. Dalesq told me the key to using the half scale speed shingles is to glue them on with E6000. I just so happen to have a giant tube of it. Yay! So I hope to get that done soon.
  3. OK, it turns out I did have a few new pix for ya: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=108417
  4. I'm sooooo late to this party, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! :bounce8:
  5. I'm baaaaaaaack! Ollie has been in storage while I've been busy. I also moved, so now I have a whole dollhouse room. WHEE! :jumping: I sanded the edges of Luna Lair and put on some more white paint, so I don't have any "new" pix to show because the house looks exactly the same. I hope to have new progress pix soon! And Dalesq and Kelly have been working on 1/2 Buttercups I see (and maybe other people, too?). WHEEEEE! The more the merrier! Please share your progress. It will take me a while to catch up on forum news since I've been gone so long. Geeeeeez. Stupid Real Life getting in the way....
  6. Ollie is growling with jealousy.
  7. This is all very interesting to me because I'll be building mine eventually. Sounds tricky!
  8. Hello, all! On behalf on the Omaha-Council Bluffs Miniature Guild, I'd like to invite you to Nebraska State Day 2015, when we'll be making a "Screened-In Porch." Here are the details. You DO NOT have to be a member of NAME to attend this event: http://ocbmg.blogspot.com/2014/09/nebraska-state-day-2015.html And if you want to know what the event is like, here's a recap of our recent Nebraska State Day 2014, when we made "Create a Shop": http://ocbmg.blogspot.com/2014/09/nebraska-state-day-2014.html I had a blast, and I'll post pix of my shop when I get further along with it.
  9. The haunted house at Disneyland or Disney World looks EXACTLY like the BH, but it's not the BH. There has been much speculation over the years about which house this was based on. I'm pretty sure GL once said it's a combo of a few real life houses.
  10. The fish has amazing detail for being so tiny. I love it!!
  11. Relish in the moment! Well deserved, my friend!!

  14. I'm swooning. Your blog post about the house is fantastic!! Bravo!!!!!! :bounce8:
  15. It feels really good, Selkie. I'm reminded how relaxing yet invigorating this hobby is.
  16. Um, David. I started on my Beacon Hill in 2006, and you're ahead of me. There are plenty of people who have blown through BHs way before I have. I think you're doing GREAT with your time. I also agree with Dalesq to maybe leave out the internal bricks/fireplace details until the kiddo is a bit older. From my experience with kids/dollhouses, they pick off things quite easily, such as beautiful fireplace bricks. But again, it's all about what YOU want to do. I can't remember if I linked you to the Princess House I built for my niece, but here is what it looked like when I gave it to her for her 4th birthday. She's now 10, and she still plays with the house, but I gave her a more "grown up" one last Christmas, which she prefers: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=708 The Princess House has survived because I left off almost all of the trim and things like doors and windows. This house has even been dropped a few times and has held strong. So much for all of those people who think GL houses are fragile! Regarding my own BH, it's been sitting on a long work table in my living room these last few years. I haven't ever stopped Gretchen (Maine Coon) from getting on top of it, but that's about to change. I'm planning on reorganizing my living room furniture soon, and I'm going to put the BH on a card table instead of a long work table. I'm also going to cover that puppy with foil to see if I can break Gretchen's habits. I'm not too hopeful on that because spraying her with water doesn't work at all. In fact, she loves water. So I'm not sure how she'll react to foil or double-sided sticky tape. We'll see.
  17. I glued the second floor and the roof on today. Ollie says "IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME, BLONDIE!!!!!!!!!!" I'm also working on a few kits for him. http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=103566
  18. Wycked, I'm SO happy that you're keeping the rose bushes!! I looooove the Sea Hug in so many ways but mostly because it's so incredibly unique! BOING BOING BOING!!! I would HATE to see you pull off anything that doesn't seem realistic to you. Tell me whenever that mood strikes, and I'll talk you out of it!! I can be very bossy when I want to be. ;) David, the bricks look fantastic! I've never worked with mini bricks, so it's fun to watch you. Well done!

    Toilet brush

That's the best toilet bowl cleaner I've ever seen. Bravo!!
  20. I love it when things like this happen! Congrats!!
  21. You're doing a great job! And even though the BH looks heavy, the thin wood keeps it light -- just a little awkward to carry. Ha! I can move mine quite easily, so a bit of added weight won't hurt. I think the real stone and bricks will be fantastic!
  22. Hahaha!! You're welcome to join us anytime, Selkie! Well, David, sadly I'm still a busy bee and not finding good time to bond with the BH. I fear she will become permanent furniture if I don't get going soon. Let's see, what should I work on next? I do need to get another coat of paint on the outside. I remember doing one coat and stopping, so I need to go back and do the second coat. I enjoy working on the interior far more than I do painting, however, so maybe I'll do something inside to get me on a roll again! Also, I hear you about the staining taking forEVER. I just learned the wonders and magic of staining pens/markers. I got a few to use for kits since getting out a huge can of stain seems like such a pain when I just want to do one quick thing. Now I'm in LOVE with staining pens. You might try some of those for the smaller details on your BH. Who knows? It might save some time and energy? :woohoo: I used the Minwax kind that I found at Menard's: http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/maintenance-repair/minwax-wood-finish-stain-marker Quick, easy, and far less smelly.
