I just posted new pics . . .

Thanks! You could say that . . . not only did he build me my first very beloved dollhouse for my 9th Christmas, he also took me to many fabulous dollhouse and miniatures displays during my childhood. Plus, he let me learn how to use power tools in his shop on "Shop Sundays". My Dad is so brilliant - he knows how to do everything and he has always been a great sport in sharing his know-how. -
O.K., I can't help myself . . . I am going to be VERY bad and recommend you take all 3 courses! I LOVE the Cypress and Fog roombox and I do think it is very different from the other one. And, I adore that beautiful chair and lamp too! You only live once, and if you can afford it, you should have as much fun as possible!

Sherry, thanks so much, BUT . . . you make me laugh. Brag that you know me? Good grief, if they've seen your work, they won't worry about mine! You're a master! Thanks, Holly! I won't argue with you there. I am quite attached to him! No, there is only one door. But, you are very observant! The picture before the stained glass is what I was considering at first. I ended up deciding the stained glass would provide privacy and color. And, thank you for your compliment! -

Thanks so much! I am glad you like it. I would like to do several, and have a band of gypsies traveling together! Somehow, though, I am sure I can't talk my Dad into that one . . . -
A Refurb Never Done Before!
Rhonda from the Bluegrass replied to sweetstina's topic in General Mini Talk
First of all, take a deep breath . . . Honestly, just don't be afraid of it. I wouldn't take it apart unless you need to. Is it sagging, coming apart, or splintering? If not, I wouldn't dismantle it at all. Now, about the wallpapering. That's not so bad . . . I actually always wallpaper my houses after they are built anyway. Since you don't have the original pattern pieces, just take a plain white piece of paper (out of your printer, or whatever you have on hand), lay it up against the wall and press it into place to make a template. Then, cut it out and re-check to make sure it still fits properly. If it does, you can cut it out of the real wallpaper at that point. I went in and looked at the house in question. That is an absolutely GORGEOUS house! You are so lucky to have found it! Good luck, and remember . . . just have fun. If you do something you don't like, you can always take it out and do it again. -

For Christmas this past year, my Dad surprised me by building this wonderful little caravan. I had always wanted one, and I had no idea he was going to make it for me. We had already opened what I THOUGHT was all our gifts, when my young nephew came into the living room with his remote control car . . . towing this behind it! I was wildly excited, and I can't tell you how much fun this was to do. I had a blast and best of all, I had virtually everything I needed to finish it on-hand. There is an article on it in the current issue of Dollhouse Miniatures magazine, so I thought I could go ahead and share it on here as well. I have a whole album full of pictures in my gallery. I hope you like it!

Together we could build an dollhouse town
Rhonda from the Bluegrass replied to Missymew's topic in General Mini Talk
Thanks so much, Monica! This really is an awesome project. And, I am right on board with you about not expecting Dean or his staff to get in on it. I think sometimes, because we love this forum so much, we can forget that Dean's main concern is making and selling dollhouses. I also like your idea about burroughs within the towns. I know that California and Texas both have large Hispanic populations, so I could see having areas that concentrate on that type of architecture grouping being tucked in certain areas. And, I definitely love the idea of adding to the haunted/fantasy sections! -

I'm glad you like my idea, and I am also hoping I can get the garage kit soon. I DID get the horses - since they were at the Goodwill store, I had to grab them when I found them because everything in there sells so fast. It's doubtful they would ever get those again. I'll try to recharge my camera batteries in a day or two so I can take a picture of them & post in my Excelsior gallery. -

Together we could build an dollhouse town
Rhonda from the Bluegrass replied to Missymew's topic in General Mini Talk
Well, I am certainly late in getting in on this! I've got a lot of stuff in all scales, starting with 1:288 scale and of course, up to the 1:12. Besides zillions of houses, I have log cabins, a post office, an equestrian center, a florist (almost finished) and I am working on a "dollhouse museum". Someone brought up making a world - that's a great idea because I have a Mexican hacienda and a Mexican cantina in 1:12 scale, and am working on a Bavarian house as well. In half-scale, I have a Swiss chalet, and in 1:72 scale, I have a Navajo hogan. Monica, I'll definitely need at least 3 plots in your haunted section: As you know, I am working on a massive haunted mansion (Middleton Manor), which will also have a cemetery. And I have 2 other haunted dollhouses that are not yet finished. Plus, I'll need a place to put my gypsy caravan - perhaps in the fantasy section? Someone previously mentioned keeping brands separately, but I think it would be better if we didn't. In the real world, all kinds of buildings are next to one another, and I think ours should be too. Plus, a lot of us have custom-built houses and we would like to include those. For instance, I have a custom-built "retreat cabin" that would be great in the mountains. As many houses as I have, I need to give some thought to where each might go. Anyway, this is really fun and I think it could end up being amazing. If we get it all together, somebody ought to feature it in a magazine or on t.v. -

Thank you, Rosalind! What nice comments! My stonework was done with Creative Paperclay. It took forever! I am glad you like the bay window - I thought that would be an interesting twist. It was so much fun to make this (although a bit stressful due to the time constraints). I am still doing things to it, and I hope later on to buy another garage kit to make a matching "Excelsior Stables" building for the horses. Right now, I can't afford it . . . but I really do want to do one. It will match in stonework and coloration. Eventually, I am going to have to figure out an area big enough to house a display to put the two together, adding fencing and landscaping, etc. . . Plus, I just found gorgeous Breyer scale versions of famous War Admiral and Sea Biscuit. Since those horses lived here in Lexington, I was beyond excited! So, they really will need their stable! -

Ditto for me! I come here and look at it very frequently! I think it is an absolute marvel. Jo, you are an artist extraordinaire! The way you put 100% into each and every detail is just incredible. In all the years I have been drooling over dollhouses and miniatures, this one just stands out in the top 1% of them all!
