  1. Thank you so much for the link BlueBear! The gallery helps me ALOT! I am a very visual person, so even though someone told me how to do it, and I read about doing it, it's much more helpful to me to SEE the process step by step like that. Next week is February break for the schools here, so I know what I'll be doing all next week!
  2. There isn't a door. Just windows. I guess the door is where the open part would be??? That's I'm going with, anyways. For $4.99, a missing door isn't a deal breaker! Will post more pics as I work on it- have been lookijg at fairy houses online for inspiration.
  3. Thanks! I am thinking that it will be a Faerie Queen's home???? I have been wanting to try making my own fairy furniture for a while.
  4. Stopped into Goodwill yesterday after work to look for mini's. Ended up finding a globe pencil sharpener for 99 cents that will go in Ariel's Grotto eventually- it looks just like the one she has in the movie! As I was almost ready to leave, a tall decoration caught my interest, and when I picked it up I discovered it was a dollhouse shaped like a castle tower! It was only $4.99! It looks as though it was handmade, and it has 2 rooms. The outside looks like a castle tower, the top room has a wooden floor, and the bottom room has a stone floor. Also, it's on a Lazy Susan type of swivelly thing, so it turns really easily from front to back. Not sure what i am going to do with it, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I made a new photo album for it if anyone's intersted in seeing it: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=6163

  6. WOW- I really want one of those hot knives! That looks so cool!
  7. Yeah. . .the clips on Youtube that I watched were for rr model builders. . .have yet to find a really good one. . .
  8. Hi all- as some of you might know, I am trying to create Ariel's treasure trove from The Little Mermaid. I got the idea to use floral foam, but my husband suggested using chicken wire w/ it and then using plaster cloth over it all. I've never attempted anything using these materials before and I was hoping to find a decent tutorial about how to 'carve' floral foam and get it to look the way i want. I tried watching some clips on YouTube, but they weren't quite what i was looking for. Anyone have some good pics or tuts to direct me to?
  9. Well, by flowers I meant like these underwater types of flora: https://www.google.com/search?q=sebastian+little+mermaid+earring&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=zaJ&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=gvkXUYnuH5O30QGNjoDoAg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1280&bih=623#imgrc=vY-MKcW-KBjdAM%3A%3B3vDBk14_maLZ_M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fstylezap.files.wordpress.com%252F2010%252F07%252Funder-the-sea-2-533x600.jpg%253Fw%253D630%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fstylezap.wordpress.com%252F2010%252F07%252F21%252Ffashion-inspiration-walt-disney%2525E2%252580%252599s-the-little-mermaid%252F%3B533%3B600
  10. Thank you everyone for your ideas and encouragement! I just won a treasure chest on Ebay for $1.04 that is actually an aquarium decoration. I also have a large clam shell (that I picked up myself at the beach) that is going to be a bed/seat for Ariel. Perhaps I could put some moss in it, and decorate it with pearls and flowers? What you think?
  11. Thanks! I am a little intimidated to to try recreating something that I love so much, but I really want to try. I feel like if I can get the right shape and size for the cove, using floral foam and such, then the rest of it will be downhill. Then it will require lots of paint, and plaster strips and diamond dust etc, but the hardest thing right now is trying to figure out the size and the shape of it. . . I think I know what movie I am going to be watching after work today. . .
  12. I have decided to start constructing Ariel's treasure cove from The Little Mermaid- I just bought an Ariel doll to inspire me!
  13. wow I guess I was out of the loop while the silly fig leaf conversation was happening. . .I have yet to find a statue or statue-to-be that I am satisfied with, BUT I did find another point of inspiration. Similar to how my Wizard of Oz house is combination of the book and the movie, I have decided that my mermaid cove is going to be a combination of the tle by Andersen and the 1989 Disney movie, which is one of my fav. movies. I found a beautiful, porcelain Ariel doll on Ebay! She is 7", so she's a little bigger than 1:12 scale, but she was the smallest high-quality Ariel doll that I could find for a good price. (I really prefer porcelain dollhouse dolls over resin or plastic figurines.) Here's the link in case you want to see how she looks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140911126471?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I think the cove is going to be constructed of foamcore/styrofoam so that it's lightweight. . .the woman who showed me how to make mini food once constructed a Bat Cave for her grandson, so she shared her ideas and pics w/ me for my mermaid cove. We're supposed to get tons of snow this weekend, so I'll have plenty of time inside to start going on my new project!
  14. This is a good idea, but I still need to find a decent plastic figure though. . .
  15. Anyone have an idea for where I can find a 1:12 scale marble statue? Not a bust, but a full size statue. I've been looking on Ebay and Amazon, but haven't had much luck yet. . . I have been encouraged to pursue a certain project, and one of the centerpieces of this scene (not really a house, but more like a diorama) would be a large marble statue of a young man. . . Here's a hint: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.littleariel.com/the%2520little%2520mermaid_files/image012.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.littleariel.com/the%2520little%2520mermaid.htm&h=416&w=526&sz=24&tbnid=LD7WJIOClmLu-M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=114&zoom=1&usg=__SRJSLfIQmCQvMNw1rijvD3ngj7M=&docid=-F9EFvoGfhs5VM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gXsSUcSYBPG10AHsioDYBg&ved=0CDwQ9QEwBA Obviously I don't expect to find a 1:12 statue that looks exactly like this, but in the fairy tale the statue is simply depicting "a handsome youth" so I'd settle for something along that description. I know this is a very specific request, but that's why I decided to come on here for help. If anyone has ideas, it's you guys!
  16. From the album: Dorothy's House

I had this figurine on the dashboard of my car for a while. He came loose recently, and I decided to try him out in the Oz dh, looking down at the melted wicked witch. Obviously, he doesn't look exactly like the flying monkey that I created myself, but I think he'll stay put in there for now.

    From the album: Dorothy's House

in Dorothy's room. I found a lace collar at a thrift shop for $1.99 that is supposed to be put on a dress or shirt. I simply cut the lace collar into the lengths I needed, and attached them to the wall using a small amount of hot glue.
