  1. Thanks so much everyone.  I contacted a friend in Texas (as I'm in Australia) and she has had the sheet sent to her from Greenleaf and is sending it over to me.  I'm so excited about receiving it.  I'm going to turn it into an antique shop when it's finally built.

Yes, Greenleaf do have terrific customer service, thankfully :)

  2. I bought a Glencroft Dollhouse Kit from a lady online some years back.  She said she had opened it but everything was intact.

Stupidly, I didn't check it until now ... I know, I should be ashamed of myself and it's something I wouldn't do now, but this was back in the days when I trusted people online ... :)

Anyway, as you have probably guessed, one of the sheets is missing.  Sheet #11, which is the one containing the Front Roof Right Side and Left Gable and so forth ... in other words, main parts.

It's too long ago and I can't remember the person I bought it from ... really, I could smack myself upside the head for being so silly and trusting.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to obtain this sheet now at this late stage?

I would appreciate any help at all.

    :(

  3. Hello. I haven't posted here in quite some time, unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way ... :)

I have been working on my witch house and wanted to make a very weathered gray coloured flagstone exterior. I have collected a number of old egg cartons which are the ideal colour to begin with, but wondered if anyone knows how I can actually make the 'mulch' for the bricks. I have seen a papier mache type substance made from the egg cartons that would be terrific, but unfortunately, I can't seem to find the right ingredients ... no doubt some preservative would have to be added, or a mould inhibitor?

Can anyone tell me or point me in the direction of some information regarding this? I would be most grateful.

  4. Well Helen, if you ever do make it to Melbourne, you must contact me and come along as my guest to the Miniatures group I belong to. They sound to be the complete opposite to the group where you are. We always have a great time each month at our workshops. You can check out our website if you like to see our projects etc. :)

You certainly wouldn't want to be visiting New South Wales at the moment, sadly. Our rain belt just doesn't seem to want to get up there and seems to stop just short of the fires.

Nice to know you are also supervised by a feline. I have four, two siamese and an oriental shorthair plus a dear ex feral moggie. All girls, all divas. I did have German Shepherds but after the last one passed away my husband decided he couldn't cope with the losses anymore so we haven't introduced another ... yet! Oh, and I also had a white budgie (named Sooty of course LOL). She was called a cinnamon lacewing. Very pretty little bird, and such a character.

I've just had a read of your silicone filler debacle. Oh my, I can understand the frustration for sure. The migraines certainly don't help do they. Mine seem to have taken a vacation for the last couple of years. I don't know what I'm doing right, but whatever it is I want to keep doing it. I've had them since I was 13 years of age, so I'm thinking hormones may have had something to do with that (now that I don't have any LOL).

I have been using my first, very basic, dollhouse to experiment upon before trying any task on my 'good' ones. I'm also experimenting with a cladding for outside walls made from egg cartons. I don't think I have the recipe right yet, but will have to question my source at our next meeting ... she is a goldmine of ideas and expertise. It's an interesting look ... a cross between adobe and tudor style exteriors.

I really must set to and get more done on my house. I did the undercoat on the large one, but haven't touched it since (I did put photos in my gallery of that). I'm just so fascinated by making the tiny objects right now so when that dwindles down I will get back to the houses ... :)

Hi Jeanie, I've been to Sydney, Deception Bay just out of Brisbane and Coolum for holidays but haven't made it to Melbourne yet (it helps that my sister lived in D Bay and Coolum so costs were minimal - Sydney was also work related so they paid). It is on my one day plan but while I'm not working saving's not really happening.

The beautiful cat in my profile picture is my Ragdoll called Miss T - she's the youngest of my fur/feathered babies - we also have we have 2 dogs; a German shepherd/collie cross and a Chihuahua/mini foxie cross and technically 2 cats but Sprockit my long haired cameo prefers our neighbours and a white budgie called Brick. In my gallery there are a couple of photos of Miss T "helping" with my build.

It is quite interesting how the houses tell us what they'd like to be isn't it ... oh well I'm picking my original plans will happen with a house one day ... that said I do love what she has decided to be.

Oooh that sounds like fun - I checked out the miniature group here at their open/exhibition day and found them quite rude so I don't think I'll be joining there club anytime soon - yay for the internet and this site :)

I have a couple of photo's up but I'm on a go slow at the moment after my silicone filler debacle - http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34280 will tell you about it. I also had my first go at wallpapering the other day and let's just say it was an experience and there will be lots of strategic placing of items when it comes to finishing the room. That was after I had to re cut my paper as I'd cut one sheet from the wrong end... I knew there was a reason that as we've renovated our house I chose paint!!!

  5. Welcome Helen. I'm from Melbourne in Aus so just across the way from you :) I also noted that you have a beautiful cat in your profile photo, it's always nice to meet another cat lover.

I see you have suffered the same fate as I have. That of building the house only to find the original plans we have made for it have gone by the by LOL. I have four on the go at the moment, and I run into the same trouble with each and every one (and I'm about to begin building the fifth one). I really will have to discipline myself.

I belong to a miniature group here and of late I've been busy making one inch scale items, so my painting and wallpapering have taken a back seat. However, I will soon be started on those projects again.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your photos.

  6. Hello Nancy. I had that problem, too, with two of my houses. As the other members have said, a sharp craft knife is the answer along with lots of prayers and prizing LOL.

I'm just at the stage where I have my own gallery now, but only three pictures to put on it, and none of the three are very interesting right now. I have yet to finish one of mine, I just get so excited about the others that I can't stay on just one for any length of time.

  7. Welcome Nicole. I'm sure with your background in fine arts you will be a great source of information ... :)

I'm in Australia and currently working on a few houses. I'm concentrating particularly on a custom built one at the moment and I'm just starting. So far I have one coat of undercoat done, another to put on, the stairway assembled and stained and varnished. Now I have to plan the family who are going to 'live' there so that I can decide on rooms and furnishings etc.

    It's so exciting isn't it.

  8. Hi Cindy and welcome :)

I'm fairly new here, too, and the members are so very helpful and kind and welcoming.

I googled your house and found some photos and it is a lovely house, so many rooms to play with :)

It also came up in Google that a member here has one "Bojangles". I have seen posts from her recently (the name stuck in my mind) so it will be nice for you to have someone with the same house here.

I'm in Australia (Melbourne) and I'm at the painting stage of my large house. It was a custom made house by a chap here who builds them to whatever specifications you want. I wish now I had waited and practiced a little because there are quite a few things I would have asked for.

Doesn't matter because I doubt it will be my last one LOL. This hobby is so addictive.

I'm amazed at you finding your house where you did ... what a lucky day for you when you saw that sitting in a driveway.

  9. Hi Andrea. I've just looked at the pictures of your house in the gallery. I love it. This is the look I want for my witch house. When you say you did the worn weatherboards using different wood stains, did you already have the weatherboards on the original house, or have you actually made the weatherboards yourself (or did you achieve the weatherboard look by simply painting)?

I think you're managing to achieve the worn and spooky but homey look ... :)

  10. Welcome, it was so nice to read your post ... :)

I am new here so will be looking forward to seeing your photos and reading more about your houses. I am a raw beginner and I'm working on creating an Edwardian home at the moment. I have a few other projects going on (a witch's house and a cottage that I'm converting into an antique shop) so my houses are also older styles.

  11. I am looking forward to the workshop as there are more than just a few pieces to be made with Polymer. I found a book last week on working with Polymer that I bought ... wasn't looking for that but it popped up at me as I searched for something else :)

I actually did polymer clay for the first time last fall - that's what got me back into all this.

  12. Plan it out

That is what I found I had to do. Would you believe I actually STARTED my large house last week. I have assembled the stairway and stained and varnished it ready to install just yesterday. I'm looking through my wallpaper supply now so that I can get that up and the stairway installed. I put all the furniture and bits and bobs into the empty house, just to see how they look so far, and what I have to make and which rooms are going to be which. That is all helping me get going. I've looked and looked at all the pictures here, and websites of members and have made note of particular ideas etc. I've also enrolled for a weekend class which among other things teaches how to use polymer clay. I'm very excited about that. My husband told me yesterday that I'm not taking enough photos, so I've rectified that little matter, also ... :)

I'm so excited about it all that I find the DH and cats are all pretending to faint with hunger about two hours after when their meals were due LOL.

Sorry Andi, didn't mean to hijack your thread ... :)

  13. Striving for "perfection" is a self-defeating goal; work for realism and you will not only be happier with the results, but you will have a lot more fun along the way. Letting yourself make mistakes and fixing them is very liberating.

This is so true .. I really must be more practical and get my head back down to earth LOL. My trouble is that I want the Palace of Versailles LOL (particularly that hall of mirrors) ... ;)

  14. Hi Andi ... good luck with all your projects. It's great that you have the additional projects because it really sounds as if you do want to leave your childhood house as it is ... :) It's nice to be sentimental and you can still go on with the others.

I was a bit worried about doing anything to my 'big' house ... afraid I would mess things up, and I want it to be just perfect ... although I know the whole thing will probably be a lifetime journey. Anyway, I bought a couple of cheaper houses to get started on and practice with, and now, I've actually plucked up the courage to start on the big one. I'm still taking it slowly but I'm so excited about it all.

Enjoy yourself with yours and welcome.

  15. Hi Jazzi,

Nice to meet you ... are you a VAME member? I have been trying to get to the Ballarat miniatures exhibition but never seem to make it. This year I will make a concerted effort, though :)

Looking forward to sharing some ideas and photos with you and email away ... :)
