  1. I tried painting them and got mad at them. I sawed them apart. I cut at an angle at the top corners and then straight across the centerpost at the tops. I used the saw that came with my miter saw. It was tricky getting the centerposts to line up but they were ok. And saved me SO much frustration! I do NOT know how they expected them to be painted!
  2. [attach ment=16194:SidingFi...ng112907.jpg]I've made some progress on the Alexandria. Seems to go so slow tho! Part of the damper is those dang windows but what do I do? I decided to put more windows in! The third floor rooms seem so dark so I asked my sil if a couple more windows would be ok and she agreed. So I added one in each peak the same as the one that was already in that little area at the top of the tower area. Plus I "squared off" that doorway that has jsut the dorner slanted. That other one - well, that's a dilly. should ahve made a door into that area from the room adjacent and closed that weird doorway off. Not sure if the attachment will come thru but I am done "bricking" and starting to apply the siding.
  3. Realized I could share pictures here! I'm using sandpaper for the stone. I started out calling them bricks but they aren't standard size plus bricks to me are neater in construction and these are a little "free-spaced". lol
  4. I'm returning to working on the Alexandria later this week. It was on hiatus after an appendectomy and a loss of interest in minis this last spring. Then a friend gave me a Artply Alison kit she lost interest in and it got me reinspired. That wiill be "done" probably Tuesday and the Alexandria has been wimpering for attention for a few weeks now so . . . It's 99% together and one room is partially wallpapered. I was working on painting the windows two toned when the appendicitis hit. I'll try to get pix up somewhere soon.
  5. FWIW, i have not been able to locate anything at all for houses by American Crafts or Victorian Times. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?&...25&offset=0 I have a copy of a printout I did years ago of some Doll'sFaire/Victorian Times houses. Included are the Elliot Bay House, Lacamas Lake House, Knapp House, Bee Tree House, Joseph Angel House, Cook House and "Smaller Items". There are also individual pix with floorplans. I don't kow if there are anymore in my PictureTrail album that aren't listed. I started going crosseyed! There's the Franklin by possibly Artply and the Artply 702.
  6. I used some dimensional stone on the lower fireplace in the FF. I wasn't real thrilled with it got that - too many bends - but it's what I had. A friend had gotten some textured stone from MicroMark and sent it to me to try cuz it was too large of a print for her purposes and it worked great. While it's not really dimensional it does give the impresion. See the FF in my Picturetrail album http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?&...&offset=295 or http://tinyurl.com/yrcbxt Sorry I don't remember the scale she ordered. If you should get the Micromark brick or stone I advise using glue even tho it is adhesive backed. Me, again, already. The scale was O scale. The friend ordered it for that scale but it looked too big. Seemed fine for my purposes.
  7. While we're talking about these kits, my dil just called me and asked if I knew where she could get the instructions for the village size Station and Store kit. She started it about 10 years or so ago but it got put off when she had the kids and went back to work. Now she's home recovering from surgery and thought getting it going again would make time pass faster. The kids are also big enough to not mess with it so she can set the scene up finally.
  8. Thanks! I fell in love with the Fairfield at first glance. I prefer dollhouses that are more like real houses and this one sure is. While I gotta admit I created a good share of blue air I never lost any of the feelings for her. But then there's blue air every time I build a dollhouse! lol
  9. I too did the Fairfield and didn't like the stairs. And wanted stairs to the third level. I opened up into the tower room, too. Ya, there were fristrations along the way but I love how it turned out. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...amp;uid=3254832
  10. Those French doors REALLY set it off!! Good thinking!! I've found that most dollhouses like to have a say in how they turn out. Just listen to them. Sometimes you have to come to an agreement tho, as they can have some pretty grandiose ideas. lol I havne't done any major bashing on any but just like us, they don't all totally like the shape they're in. And there have been times my words and glare while miniing have scared my DH and dog quite severely but they know everything will be ok gain shortly.
  11. I know! I figured I'd unwrap the buggers and end up with all these layers of nicely curved wood laying all over the place. But it worked, thank goodness!
  12. Thanks, Lyn! It was a love/hate relationship there for a while but love won out. lol
  13. Probably way late for you but I wrapped them around gallon paint cans, first with rubber bands and sprayed it regularly with water from a spray bottle. As it started to bend I tied it tighter and tighter til it stayed at the bend I needed.
