I use the foamular (pink stuff) for another hobby(Massive Christmas village).. I love it and you can get all different kinds of foam coat, glue and tools from Hot wire foam company.

Thank you, No, the benches and pulpit/altar that come with the kit are just square bulky MDF and I wanted something more delicate so I made the altar and I commissioned the benches and candle stand from Stockton Miniatures. I think they are so cute.

If you want wood, how about trying the Band-IT veneer, I have not used it but I think it is fairly thin.
