  1. Deb, your Pierce is wonderful so far! The Pierce was my first house, so it does hold some sentiment every time I see one that looks as good as yours. So, you just print out any stained glass image onto transparancies, huh? It's that easy? Hmmm, you got my brain juices flowing now. I might have to use this idea for the windows of my Gothic Villa as I've seen some wonderful gothic stained glass designs in my time. Thank you so much for the quick tutorial!
  2. Different sized transformers handle different quantities of bulbs. Keep in mind and make a special note...we're talking "bulbs" here, not fixtures. Some light fixtures, like chandeliers, have multiple bulbs and it's the bulbs you have to count. Attaching two separate lead-in wires to one transformer isn't something I've ever done and probably would never do, but I would think, that as long as everything you're running is for a 12V system, and as long as the transformer your using is big enough to handle all the bulbs you plan to use, you'd be fine.
  3. I would use two separate transformers too. I wouldn't take the chance of connecting two different lead-ins to the same one. How many total bulbs (not fixtures) are you planning to power? And what size transformer do you have?
  4. My step-brother is into model railroading, but that's the extent of my family being involved. My dad "used" to build small scale boats, but not anymore. My dad also used to tell me as a kid, "Someday, I'd like for us to build a dollhouse toether." Well, that day never came, but I didn't let that stop me, obviously. Poo poo on dad! He doesn't even know that I've done much more than build a dollhouse...if he knew I had a website and forum dedicated to the entire hobby, he'd probably flip. But since we're not on speaking terms at the moment (another drama within itself)...... :o
  5. I'm with Tracy, I think the harder-drying stuff would crack easier as it dries. But if you want to be a guinea-pig and try it out, please report your findings. I'd be interested in knowing. I work with paperclay a lot!
  6. Is there any way you can either scrape off the paint on the tabs/slots with a craft knife or sand the paint off with a Dremel? Just throwing out ideas here...
  7. My hubby doesn't care how many houses I build just as long as they don't 'leak' into other areas of the house. So, I am always thinking of ways to make more fit into the little room I have.
  8. Rabbits and hares were considered very lucky animals as they were associated with spring and the return of flowers and other plants. Spring was also a time of fertility and so rabbits were considered good luck to be seen running through the fields. To see a rabbit running through your yard meant that it would be a good year to have children or that your garden would be especially fertile this year.
  9. Thanks Linda. Yep, did the timbering too. The funnest part of doing the timbering was beating up the wood before I stained it so that it would look really old. Then, when I stained it, the stain brought out all the dents and marks I made. It was pretty cool!
  10. Here you go Linda. Except these won't have the descriptions that are in the album. Did you try just clicking on the link in my signature?
  11. I'm with Wendy; I love the bay windows. Great job!
  12. I know how you feel, Tracy. I'm so eager to get into a real house it's not even funny. Hubby has promised me a large basement with a bigger than normal door to the outside, or a large outbuilding. I'd prefer the outbuilding actually. It's my goal to have a workshop the size of Norm Abrams of New Yankee Workshop. Wouldn't mind having some of his tools and machinery too!
  13. Wow, thanks everyone! <blushing> Last night I just sat and looked at it. I'm really pleased with it so far. But alas, it will now have to take a back burner to one last time-sensitive project that must be done before December. Wendy - Yes, I'm kinda proud of it. I've been chomping at the bit to build a basement for awhile now. It sure felt good to finally set the house on it and take these pictures. Peggi - If you move in right now, you have to stay and help with the construction! Yeah, I'm kinda excited to do the wine cellar part. Barrels, bottles, grapes, etc. all around. Fun fun fun! Tracy - Yeah, I love BIG houses. I have to be careful though as my craft room is just the 2nd bedroom of our apartment. I have to keep their depth under 29 inches so they'll go through the door when the day comes that we move. The tudor house won't be permanently attached to the basement until we're in a house. So, to answer your question, they're displayed in my craft room, but I only have two houses at the moment that are large. The other is my gothic villa which is 54" wide and 26" deep. This one will have to be turned "on end" to get out of the room. Sounds like a bother, I'm sure. But to me it's not...large houses are my obsession and moving day will be a 'minor' inconvenience to me at best. Nutti and Deb - Thank you so much. Your kind words humble me. I wish I could continue on with this one right now, but it'll have to wait a couple months. This house is supposed to end up as the Flagship for the ATM website. I don't know if I'll have the heart to ever part with it when it's done. It's starting to feel like a 'keeper'.
  14. Ok, I've been playing around the past couple of weeks. I couldn't wait any longer. Many of you know all about my fixation for basements under dollhouses. Well, now my English Tudor House has one. It measures 28" deep by 48" wide with 8" ceilings. I wanted this underground basement too look very old. I think I accomplished it so far. The top surface will be landscaped around the house. There's also a door in the livingroom that will lead to an extension that will house the faux staircase to the basement (I want to give the illusion of a staircase without building an entire one or cutting a hole in the basement ceiling). I hope you like! I feel much better now that I've been able to do this! Ahhhh, a fix at last! I realized tonight that this basement is about half the size of the one I'm going to make for my Gothic Villa! ACK!
