The kit was fun to put together...just plan on hours and hours as there are so many things to construct. I didn't need to customize it as there was already so much incredible detail as a part of the kit. I would definitely recommend them.

There aren't shelves under the counter as parts of the counter hide wiring and a battery box.

Technically, it wasn't too difficult. The hardest thing was that there was so much lighting and wiring...tricky at times to hide. It was just a TON of work as you make everything from the travel paper cups to upholstered chairs. So it will take a lot of time - but for that reason, it is a great bargain as it was hours of fun. I also learned a few things like good tricks for upholstering and a variety of uses for beads.
  4. So...I did end up buying and making one of the 1:24 DIY "Cute Room" kits from Ebay that we discussed a while ago. It will be a Christmas gift to my niece. It has LED lighting and is also a music box. BELIEVE THEM when they say DIY. You make EVERYTHING down to the tiniest piece. It was a really fun project but took a LONG time due to all of the work from tiny details. That included making the upholstered chairs from fabric, padding and blocks of wood, doing all the lighting wiring and making lampshades, making tiny to-go paper cups, constructing the patio umbrella, and the list goes on. So if you are interested in doing one, just keep that in mind. Here are a few pictures...more in my Gallery.

  6. It depends on what style you like but I have really enjoyed Laser Dollhouse Designs: http://www.laserdollhouses.com/online-store.php#!/1-24-Scale-Dollhouses/c/8577029/offset=0&sort=priceDesc They aren't cheap but the level of detail and the amount of fun to build is fantastic! I have a 1:24 Lisa that has been one of the most fun projects yet. It is huge though for half scale. If you want something smaller and/or less expensive than one of these (bungalow or small colonial) might do the trick: http://www.miniatures.com/124-Scale-Dollhouses-C373.aspx
  7. 3D printing is done by a special kind of printer that uses plastic or some other material to construct a 3 dimensional object. If you look in these photos, there are various minis that I purchased from a website that sells miniature 3D printed objects. They were white plastic when they arrived and I painted them with enamel paints. Items include the coat rack, copper toilet and white/blue sink, and copper bathtub with fixtures. You can get all sorts of things! Minietchers sells lots of 3D printed items now: http://www.minietchers.com/store/c24/3D_Printed_Miniatures.html
  8. So I wanted to follow up on a project that I challenged myself with. I bought two half scale OmniArts wicker kits (coffee table and side table) from Ebay. I really enjoyed the challenge! It was a funny case of when reading the directions ahead of time does NOT help! I found the directions totally confusing and intimidating but when I started to go through the process step-by-step, they began to make sense. You can see the finished tables here with an Etsy rocking chair (not sure I'm brave enough to make THAT from a kit yet!). If you do want to try a wicker kit like this, I highly recommend getting wire clippers from MicroMark that cut at the tip and not on the side: http://www.micromark.com/End-Nipper

Firewood box...or hiding place for LCD battery and button? An ingenious idea from True 2 Scale.

My office - still in progress. I need to make a short table for the birdcage...and add birds!

The birdcage needs inhabitants. The Renoir on the floor is a French feve from Etsy. I made the pictures by printing, rubber cementing to a cardstock backing, stippling with matte mod podge to make them look like paintings, and I made the frames.

Custom designed desk and bookshelf from MiniEtchers...with accessories. I started making books to fill the shelves...they need more.
