  1. I was in a store in Birmingham, AL in August 2015 and another in Duluth, MN in August 2016. Norm's is the nearest miniature store to me to the west, and that's a good eight hours. It's almost as far a drive to the nearest store to the east. There used to be several around here. :(
  2. Very nice! They're going to love it and you should be proud of the work you've done! Good job, Jaime!
  3. :does a Jedi hand wave: These are not the receipts you're looking for. Move along. ;)
  4. Thanks! I saw a full-size one on Pinterest and had to shrink it. :)
  5. I finished my prototype for the 1:48 scale LOVE shelves last week and the kits yesterday and we had our meeting/Christmas party last night. I think they enjoyed it. One lady finished her shelves and took two more kits home. :)
  6. From the album: Miscellaneous Projects

I swore I would never shrink this one down, but the ladies at mini club expressed interest, and... well, I was curious if I could do it.

All the swap items, ready for Nebraska State Day 2016

Prototype for my swap item for Nebraska State Day 2016
  9. Ah, Runescape. My first MMO. I switched to Lord of the Rings Online 6 years ago and that takes up more time than minis lately. It's my painkiller. I'll have to get busy soon though as I have the project for the meeting next Monday and still have to shrink my LOVE shelves to 1:48 scale and make 10 or so kits. Shouldn't be too hard...

  11. The November online miniature show starts on the 10th and runs through the 13th: http://thenovembershow.weebly.com/ There's early access shopping available at the same link as well.
  12. I just picked up a nicely priced, already built Bellingham off of craigslist that I can (hopefully) quickly rehab for my niece for Christmas. I'm also thinking of beginning to livestream some of my crafting on Twitch where I watch friends play video games. They have a Creative channel and people cross stitch or colour or do glass blowing or pretty much anything artsy but I've seen only one or two saved videos of miniatures on there. My crafty and geeky friends have said that they're interested in watching so I may start that up. It would be a good motivation for me to focus on it too. As for the tech side, my husband is getting excited and talking webcams and how we'd set it up.
  13. Definitely the Garfield. Actually, I'd pick anything that's not ranch style like the every real house I've ever lived in.
  14. You've done a lovely job! All the brickwork is so nicely done and the wolf's head is the perfect touch!
  15. I've been using that white sticky tack for the removable stuff on my walls. The museum wax doesn't stick long (in my experience) and leaves a residue when time or the hobbit (4-yo) takes it down.

You're doing a wonderful job! The windows and stonework are both beautiful!
  17. D. Thomas Fine Miniatures are the folks who put out SquintBoxes every month. This past month was the best one yet!
  18. Thanks, all! Kathi, congrats on the lighting!
  19. Strength: creativity and lots of ideas Weakness: so many ideas running amok that I can't focus on and finish anything. That and my pint-sized helper who wants to be right in my lap while I'm working. ;)
  20. I managed to finish up my three projects in time for the state fair. The doll (my first one ever) got blue/1st, the screened porch got a red/2nd, and the 1:48 scale castle got a white. Yay! Then I was on to completing my swap items for Nebraska State Day, which was September 17th. Mom and I each took swap items and had a blast again this year. I made a wall-hung shelving unit that spells out 'LOVE' and Mom made agate-topped tables on sculpey bases. You can see a pic of both our items in Blondie's post here (scroll waaay down to the 20th pic; the shelf is pretty obvious) We're both working on our projects from that weekend and have already figured out what we're going to do for the swap next year.
  21. Emily, thanks for posting those Timberbrook windows. They'll be so handy when rehabbing the Pierce I got for my niece. Area craigslist finds, aka today's method of procrastination: Wichita, KS: General Store and misc minis Copies of International Dolls' House (and Miniature Model) News - they're getting rid of their Mom's estate, have more items, and are willing to ship Salina, KS: Storybook Cottage Tulsa, OK: Cheapie accessories and some RGT wallpaper BIG dollhouse Bunch of pewter minis Topeka, KS: HoM kits "Huge" dollhouse but no pictures Whitney kit by Radmark Kansas City: Front-opening, British-looking dollhouse DC Newburg(?) for $10! 22. Basically, you build each section twice, then sandwich the screen between. First, plot out the size and what pieces you'll need, then make a pattern on a piece of paper, outlining each piece. (The 10th picture down here shows it fairly well. Mom and I are in pic #14.) Lay a piece of wax paper over the pattern and assemble one side. Once the glue is dried on that, put another piece of wax paper over the completed side, then build the second one >on top of the first<. That way they're sure to line up. Paint first, then glue the screen between. It's tedious and time-consuming but definitely worth the work. Here's a picture of one of my sides clamped. You can see the notches I cut out to hold the top bracers, one of which holds the swing. I would suggest using pretty thin pieces of strip wood, as they'll be doubled. Using anything too thick would make the wall really clunky. Have fun with your Garfield! :)
  23. It's scrapbook paper from... Michaels, I think? It was still in stock at my store the last time I looked.
