    test

It has been so long I forgot how to post pictures here I have a project in mind that uses a lot of burl will be posting it soon. I have been so focused on getting my Damascus Steel pen and letter opener kit business going it has left very little time for just fun projects. But I have something special planned

  3. Thanks - I should have specified use PM and not post an address. I have exchanged items with a few people here but you really don't want to be putting your address out for any person to see
  4. if you want a couple, unframed, drop me your address and I will mail them. Then you can see if you like the effect
  5. plus it cleans up with water
  6. Roughly equal parts matte medium, and gloss varnish with some added gloss medium I want it stiff enough to show texture and not too glossy it needs to dry a day or more between coats two or three is better to let the medium lose it's white color and go completely clear I just stipple it in in a dabbing motion three thin coats as opposed to 1 heavy one The texture is a little heavy for scale but your eye and imagination does the rest. You expect a painting to show texture and brush strokes and you translate the texture you see into what you expect even if it isn't scale I glue the picture to a linen card back and pin it to a board to hold it flat until it dries. They are surprisingly robust afterwards
  7. I get sidetracked too many hobbies too many hours at my day job. I have been doing 50+ hours a week working plus I have two sideline businesses (I represent a knife maker from Pakistan and sell collectible auto’s, mostly late 1970’s luxury cars) In addition my wife’s Parkinson’s is worse which takes a lot of my time, and I am doing a 1/6 speed boat kit from model shipways. I still have some pedestals cut out I need to finish and some busts and statues picked out for them ready to have cast. I have also been adding to my collection of Morgan dollars lately, all pre 1900, as part of a period style “gamblers” kit I am doing, using a dated 1900 cutlery box (I think as the lining was missing but it looks like carving set size and the inset brass plaque is dated Feb 27 , 1900), pre 1900 cards, a dagger from Sheffield England dated 1887-1896, etc. Just finding and dating the pieces takes time I also built a website https://www.huntsmanknivesandaxes.com/
  8. and Apollo and Muses by Charles Meynier pinned to the board ready to treat I couldn't resist this set The original is in the Cleveland Museum https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Apollo_and_the_Muses_(Meynier)
  9. Two by Albert Joseph Moore that are for my wall of English Academic Classicist painters. I have about 20 left to frame and I will be done I just haven't worked up the enthusieum to cut out 20 frames
  10. I have been working on some "paintings" treating them with my liquitex mix to look like oil paintings First up are some Vermeer's which are about perfect 1/12 scale
  11. whats good brand of polymer clay? Which gets hardest?
  12. I want to make something out of a oven hardening modeling clay. I know there are different types but have never really used any. I want something that has dfferent colors, air dries hard but then over hardens really hard what have you used and what works well ??
  13. Titebond works well as does Ailene's wood glue. Depends on what you are gluing, type of wood, etc. For dollhouse construction I would probably use Tirebond but for firniture I like Ailene's.
  14. Thank you but as I always say God made the wood all I am doing is showcasing His beauty
  15. Just a little project to keep busy this weekend Burl and sterling silver inset panels - a little hard to tell but the panels are "Autumn" by Bertel Thorvaldsen. They are only 1/2" in diameter it is amazing how many flaws the pictures show.
  16. if I hadn't overdone the clear coat it would be better I can see a few things to improve on for the next pair you need the right house to display them but on each side of a door or fireplace they would provide a different accent
  17. a few glitches with the clear but all done
  18. in action with a three volume set on Napoleon Sphinxes are common on Regency and especially Empire furniture after Napoleon's Egyptian adventure
  19. Burl and Cast Bronze just under 3/4" long
  20. Malachite or a jasper would probably be period correct but I couldn’t find some the correct size so I am using the pearl next set I can do malachite if I can find some
  21. not done but getting there I removed the pearl am going to try the silver collar idea still need the lacquer after the oil soaks in i found sand to 600 grit, three good coats of spray lacquer, let it dry a few days, then oil sand (wet or dry paper with linseed oil on it) at 2000 grit and polish with a soft cloth gives a really smooth finish.
  22. finally got a piece to photo correctly this is for a pedestal top and is about thesize of my thumb nail the white dot upper right is the sun took the photo outside
  23. top parts of a pair of pedestals i am making. Burl, ebony, and pearl not thrilled with the join for the pearls i used MOP beads as a spacer on the ebony the wood has three coats of gloss lacquer on it must be seen the picture doesnt do it justice the base will be burl and ebony
  24. The two new ones on the left are Pyinma burl and Ebony the others I posted before. Each now has three coats of clear lacquer on them over the oil. Once they dry for a few weeks I will rub them out and give a light coat of wax Really just testing woods and finishes
