  1. Hi friend! It's been a while. Just thought I'd check in and see how you were doing these days, since I last knew you'd been working on some "life sized" projects ;) It's been about a year and I still haven't put that first dollhouse together yet, but I had my little girl and getting her room ready had to come first. Now that's done and my craft space is finally in order - that dollhouse is first on my list so I've been thinking about all the advice you gave me. Hope everything's going well on your end!

  2. Dry fit

From the album Orchid Shabby Chic

After some pointers from a group I'm in, I was able to use painter's tape to hold the pieces up enough to get a good look at the dry fit. I plan on building on to each side of the Orchid (as of right now, anyway) and I think I will use the bay window opening on the left side for a set of French doors instead. I had also originally imagined a spiral staircase in the house, but I need to figure out where it will go before I glue anything together.
  3. Warped floor

From the album Orchid Shabby Chic

I had a few other projects I was hoping to finish by now, but I spent the last few weeks telling myself I could open up the kit during Spring Break. Yesterday I broke out the kit and started popping out the pieces so they could be painted, sanded, etc. The main floor of the dollhouse is warped - not terribly, but I need to do some research about how best to fix it before I glue anything else in place.
  4. How much do you plan?

Hi everyone, I recently bought an Orchid kit to play with this semester as I'm a full time student and not currently working, so I spend a lot of time at home. However, I had a setback on a big project I was trying to finish before I started the Orchid (mostly for space reasons) and it'll be a few weeks before I can take it out of the box. I've started a binder so I can keep track of all of my ideas, from stuff I'd like to bash, to layout ideas, color schemes, and furniture. This lets me 'play' a little in the interim  does anyone else do something similar?
  5. Bash dry fit, front view

Oh thank you!! the picture shows up great. Do you have a picture of the whole front piece? Sorry, I'm just very curious! I want to do something similar and I'm trying to do a lot of research before I get my hands dirty :)
  6. Bash dry fit, front view

I'm not sure if it's my computer or not, but this image didn't load did you post it anywhere else? I'd love to see how you did this.
  7. Creamy quilt

This is GORGEOUS. Simple, but absolutely gorgeous.
  8. Kit day

From the album Orchid Shabby Chic

This is the first picture I took, to remember the date. Plus my little helper (Binks) wanted to check it out. I was so excited to grab the kit for around $20. I am a full time student and on a limited budget; my plan is to DIY as much as I can! I already have a handful of ideas and started putting together a binder where I'll be keeping everything including my instructions, paint swatches, fabric swatches, and sketches. It will likely be a few more weeks before I am able to start construction so it is quite fun to work on my binder for the time being.
  9. The Orchid Build

I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you had any updates? Would love to see how this has been progressing
  10. Orchid house ?

Does poster board hold up well over time? I would love to try this.
  11. Little by little!

looks wonderful what color will you do the shutters?
  12. Hello from Iowa

Thank you!  we're up in the North end of the state, our local news station covers us and a few towns in Minnesota.
  13. Hello from Iowa

haha if we expected it to be done right after the baby arrives, maybe! but we talked about how this could be a project that would take years, and DH & I are both good with that ^_^
  14. Hello from Iowa

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to be here. My name is Jessica and I'm 27. I have always loved miniatures and dollhouses since I was a little girl. Last year my husband agreed to help me with a dollhouse project and we just haven't really gotten anything started yet, so we'll be purchasing an Arthur or an Orchid in the next month or so to start. I had to register an account after I went through an entire album of someone modding an Orchid. I don't know exactly what I'll do with it yet, but I've been an avid crafter my whole life and I am SO excited to finally have my own dollhouse project! I'm not working currently due to being a full time student and expecting our first child in June, so I have my fingers crossed that after we purchase the startup supplies, I'll be able to keep myself busy DIYing a lot of the necessities
