  1. I haven't 'been able to work on my dollhouse for the last week or two and getting itchy! But the issue is I've been in an RA flare for the past two weeks and my doc put me on some medication last night in the hopes it will take affect. I was curious to hear how others with RA work with their miniatures. Do you have any tips, advice, or suggestions? Thanks for your time! Carolyn Robinson
  2. Hi, all! I have built my own kid-friendly dollhouses in the past out of old wood. I finally decided to graduate to my first kit. I recently bought a Hofco Federal Victorian House Kit for $150. It included bedroom furniture, bathroom furniture, Christmas decorations, a complete lighting kit, etc. The kit itself is complete and in great shape - which is impressive for its age. When I opened the kit, I was so impressed by its details. The doors, the windows, everything. There was a marble fireplace buried deep in the box. Clearly, this is way too nice for me. I needed something I wouldn’t feel bad messing up! So here we are. I was wondering what advice you would give a first timer who is way in over their head. I plan on building this with my mother and she already insists we throw out the instructions. And lastly, Victorian era decor or modern decor?
  3. I purchased some light bulbs to add to DIY light fixtures. When they came in the mail they were different than I expected. Mainly, the wires were much shorter and were not insulated. Did I order the wrong thing? Can I still use these for my light fixtures? I'm a total newbie to the Dollhouse world and this is my first build and first lighting project. However, I'm experienced in other handicrafts so if you have any advice I'm sure I could manage it. Thank you!
  4. Hello everyone out there...Im kind of new to this site but was told this is the best to go to for help and advice. So here I am..lol. A few months ago I got a great deal on a Dura Craft Farmhouse 500. Last night I finally put my big girl pants on and opened the box. I was overwhelmed and confused to say the least. Now some of you may already know this, but I did not. This kit does not come with walls ready to put up. So after a small meltdown, thinking that I was missing key components, I began reading the instruction book. All of a sudden things clicked and I was off and building. Just before sunrise this morning I finished assembling the last of seven walls.... and they look really good. Now I have so many questions about what order I need to work in to accomplish my dream doll house. I have an electrical kit to wire the dollhouse, I want to put in flooring, wall tiles and wallpaper along with painting inside, outside and trims in and out. I know there are steps that should or could be done as the house is being built. Especially in the case of this house and the assembly process. ( Ive never seen one like this) So if anyone has any advice to share it would be greatly appreciated. Tina
  5. Hi y'all! I'm really just looking for guidance, if possible. I know nothing about dollhouses or miniatures, but I recently found my old childhood dollhouse from the 1970's and don't have a clue what to do with any of it. I'm very sentimental, so I can't just toss it, but I need to find out about how to go about selling it, and selling the furniture. It was a kit, all wood, with a bunch of furniture (made in Korea?)...Is it intrusive to upload a few pictures to see if anyone here could point me in the right direction? Thank you so much for any help! Oh...I'm Kim and in Marietta, GA...
  6. I was given this kit by a co-worker, and I decided to build it today so I can show her before we're off work for the summer. In the process of making it, the idea occurred to me to bash it a little - but my father-in-law was not a fan of the idea. so I thought I'd ask for advice / opinions. My idea is to cut a hole in the top where the long middle drawer is to use a sink opening. I would either keep it flat and have a very shallow sink, or use a small piece of wood to create a little height on top to make the sink deeper ( I included a picture of the middle drawer on top, to give an idea of a deeper sink). Either way, I'll make that long drawer non-operational, but keep the other doors and drawers. So, what do you think? Bash with a shallow sink, bash with a deep sink, don't bash at all...??? Thanks everyone!!
  7. Well, I've got my Orchid on her feet & standing freely...but I'm hoping to find some help on issues I have created. 1. I quickly learned the importance of painting certain pieces BEFORE assembly, but since it's too late... I painted my windows. Like the whole window. Including the "glass". Oy. So then I took a craft knife and sliced them out... Any ideas on what to put in the windows now, or how? 2. Somehow (and by somehow, I mean user error. ..) I managed to make my floors bow in the middle. Any ideas on how to disguise this, so that it might not be so obvious? 3. Shingles - has anyone tried to stain with tea? Does this work? Thanks to anyone in advance for reading & sharing some insight!
  8. Hello everyone. My name is Joanna and I have recently been bit by the dollhouse bug. I fell in love with the Fairfield, and it's on it's way as we speak. I have never built before and would appreciate any advice. I plan on adding a second staircase to have access to third floor, hope I don't screw it up! Look forward to hearing from y'all and look forward to this new found passion.
  9. Hi there Greenleaf members, I am new to the community and forums and I seek your advice! I have wanted to build a Greenleaf or Corona Concepts dollhouse for a long time, but I am yet to purchase one.
