Hello everyone, My name is Erin and I received the Arthur dollhouse kit when I was 11 and assembled it with my mother. That was 25 years ago! I’ve recently been inspired to get back into miniatures and I’ve decided to renovate my old dollhouse. A lot of things have changed in twenty-five years, especially all the resources now at hand thanks to the internet. I’m really looking forward to my “new” hobby and I’m already having a great time looking at other’s photos and getting ideas.

Any tips for dismantling a dollhouse put together with hot glue? I don’t want to take apart the whole thing as it’s very stable. It was assembled 25 years ago and is holding together really well, I want to re-do the windows and put on siding so I just want to remove windows, trim and porch railings. I’m nervous to use a hairdryer in case I loosen things I want to keep intact. Anyone with experience taking hot glued dollhouses apart?

Good morning! I have an old Storybook cottage house that my Grandma half built for me as a kid. It is in need of some repairs and I would like to make it usable for my two girls. I've found that the upstairs is an awkward height - it's to high so there isn't enough room under the roof pitch for furniture but there is a ton of room downstairs so I would like to lower the second floor. Also I wish there were more rooms so I am thinking of combining an Arthur house with the Storybook cottage house. We'll see how it goes! I've already started pulling pieces of the storybook apart so I can move the second floor but what I need to know to make sure my plan will work is: 1. How high is the Arthur second floor above the first floor? (so that my second story is level across) 2. How deep is the Arthur not including the porch? Thanks for the help!!! I've tried finding the answer online but can only find overall measurements not specific ones. I've already had to return a different dollhouse addition I'd purchased, it needed so many alterations I might as well have started from scratch so I'm trying to be more thorough in my research before I order this time!

I have another novice painting question for you all. From reading the posts there is no hard and fast rule to these houses but I am still gun shy so.... here goes i am working on the Arthur. I have primed each sheet with killz one coat. I have decided to paint and no wall paper at all. Going to Home Depot today to bet the jars of sample paint. I would assume 2 jars for the exterior since it is a larger surface to cover. Next Do I: sand then add another coat of prime to everything ? start painting the room colors for each room as well as the exterior and tiny trim pieces then assemble? leave the sheets intact or separate them 4 painting? put the house together then paint each room? what is the next best step? Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm sure this may have come up before, but I haven't found it in my search so here goes- When I started trying to add tape wire and hammer in eyelets in the back wall of my Arthur, I noticed that the glue began to come loose around the walls, and I have been stalled on my build ever since. Does anyone have ideas for how to keep the back walls that are less structurally integrated stable when hammering on the house? I'm very stuck. I don't want to permanently damage the house. I thought about wiring mostly from the floor which seems more stable, but I'd also like a ceiling light in one of the upper rooms and porch lights, so will need to solve this problem eventually! Thanks for any ideas!

Good Morning I moved to Canada from England in 2001 with my doll houses that were my pride and joy! We moved into another house a few years ago but the houses were in the basement and we were in the middle of the Alberta floods in 2013! Lost everything except for 1 small box of goodies, luckily all my miniature books were upstairs in my craft room. So the time is right to begin again, I ordered a Greenleaf Arthur with a front porch! Can't wait to start again.....

Hi there Greenfield community! I've been lurking for several weeks on the forum and finally worked up the guts to post. I gave away my childhood dollhouse and extensive collection in my teenage years - I thought I grew out of the hobby. Little did I know that I would become massively obsessed with creating a new dollhouse in my mid-twenties! I believe it is due to this middle point in my life, where I have a growing career and finally have money, but don't have enough to buy a house, and I don't have anyone to buy one with, yet. Solution: make my own miniature version. For that reason, I am drawn to more modern, glam styling reminiscent of West Elm and all of the bright white, grey and gold styling of Pinterest. What can I say. For my first build ever, I chose the modest Greenfield Arthur. I thought four rooms wouldn't overwhelm me too much, and it was an inexpensive kit that I could cut my teeth on. I'd like to get some of the community's feedback on what techniques I've used so far, and also ask for some help. 1) I popped out of die-cuts only the pieces that each step called for to prep. I sanded lightly those pieces, then primed (latex primer from Home Depot). Sanded again, sometimes primed again, and sanded again. For the little pieces of trim and the stairs and such, I actually painted primer over the entire sheet while the pieces were still die-cut in the sheet. Good/bad? Yay/Nay? I did this to most of the main pieces (base, second floor, sides, partitions and roofing) before I even pieced them together for a dry build. 2) THEN I dry fitted the main pieces together. I found that most of the slots didn't fit, so I ended up using an exacto knife to ensure they fit flush with their counterpart. I used masking tape to hold it together. 3) At this point, I knew that It was going to be more difficult to wallpaper and install flooring while the house was constructed; so I opted for wallpapering and flooring before the house was glued together, while the pieces were flat. This was an option given in the handy Warm-Up Instructions in the kit. So far in all of my research, I haven't seen much of that done, is there a huge disadvantage to doing these items before it's glued together?? See my photos for my handmade hardwood floors and one side of wallpaper so far. What I did was made sure the pieces were nice and primed and sanded so that they were smooth, then sprayed them with spray adhesive, then laid the piece onto my paper, right away. After that, I took my exacto knife and cut around the piece and through the window holes. 4) ROOKIE MISTAKE NUMBER ONE: I wallpapered the wrong side of the house on accident. I'll put that in the books. 5) ROOKIE MISTAKE NUMBER TWO: I wallpapered the right side of the house, but I put the piece down on the wrong side of the paper. I had to quickly rip it off and turn it around. Now there is a little sticky darkness on my paper. Sad day. It's easy enough to cover with a picture frame or painting, but still. I'm sort of a perfectionist. 6) So, right now the status of my house is that most of the interior walls are intermittently taped together in the dry fit, but I'm stuck on what color to paint the bedroom. Kitchen - Bottom right corner room - marble flooring and subway white tile wall accent on right side, still unsure of other walls' color. Probably white.Living Room - Bottom left corner room - reclaimed wood style hardwood and white brick accent wall (should I do actual textured brick, or wallpaper?? Any good suggestions for where to get this?) I want to put a pink fireplace on this wall. Chic!Bathroom - upper right corner room - grey longitudinal stripes and pink walls, fabulous gold hexagonal tiling for flooring (yay for cute scrapbook paper!)Bedroom - upper left corner room - grey latitudinal stripes with whitewashed boarding (created with large popsicle sticks) that goes up to the window height. Still debating on other walls in this room and also the flooring. I have nothing for the bedroom really figured out at all.

I live in the UK and desperately want to buy the GL Arthur doll house in half scale. I can only find it for sale on their official website and the postage costs are horrendous. Does anyone know where I can buy it with shipping less than $110 to the UK? The full scale Arthur is not an option as it has to be the smaller version for my project. Thanks guys!

Hello everyone, I'm in the middle of my first build (Santa's workshop in an Arthur) and have some project specific questions about the order of next steps. I have built the house as far as adding the front portion of the roof (but not the gable roof or the cutaway part that looks into the house, and I have not built the porch yet. I do not plan to add the stairs between the floors so that I will have more space for decorating. Here are some other plans specific to my questions- -I plan to add electricity (tapewire) and plan to add a few outlets inside and then a few outside so I can add Christmas light strings. I don't plan to add any lights or outlets on the roof/ceiling of the upper floor -I plan to brick the exterior -I'm terrified of wallpapering- (especially the upper floor with all those fancy angles!) since I've never done it before Here are my questions- 1) Can I do my tapewire and wallpaper now before I add the rest of the roof? Or is it better to wait? (again- I'm not planning on adding lights on the ceiling, just putting in a couple outlets along the walls of the upper rooms) 2). It seems to me like one would want to brick (and by extension add tapewiring) where the porch is going in before attaching the porch. Does this sound right? Thanks for any advice! Kim
