I would like to get some input on using different mixes of concrete, cement, plasters and glued to create stone, plaster and brick effects- i experimented with a mix of spackle, water, and tacky glue to surface a 1/12 scale Ancient Roman stove- I tinted the mixture with acrylic paint and spread it over the matte board I used to make the stove form. Im happy with the end result-but it dried very quickly and got gloppy before I could smooth it out better. What are the best ways and materials to create a plaster wall effect? Does anyone use cement or concrete mixes to create surface effects? I made an ancient Roman stove in 1/12 scale and used a mixture of spackle, water and tacky glue on the surface, tinted with a bit of acrylic paint. I am satisfied with the result but I'd like to find something that is easier to work with. The woodshed, more like a lean-to, shows the red "corrugated tin" roof that all the buildings of this project sport, and a faux cement floor made by mixing a few shades of grey and black paint with a sanded acrylic medium. (The same effect could probably be achieved with actual sand mixed into paint, but I had some medium lying around so this is how I did it.) I spread the paint-sand mixture on a bit thickly, then scraped off, to get the look of a real hand-troweled cement floor. This is one of those silly things miniaturists do... in the end, after the wood piles moved in, very little of that gorgeous floor shows. Well, at least I know it's there!
