From the album: Miniatures "Things" I've made

I am crocheting granny squares for the master bedroom afghan - my daughter wants a beach theme and chose these colors. Not quite as small as I would like but when I am finished with this one (and my loupes arrives I will attempt to go down to the size 14 hook. This is done with sewing thread and a size 12 hook and is about 3/4" square. -

From the album: Simple, Inexpensive DIY
I created this miniature to showcase my sister's miniature crochet pieces she made in the 1970s and recently gave to me. I also printed pictures from Facebook of my other sister's and a niece's handiwork. -
I decided to attempt this stitch one last time , well three tries and three different patterns later , I'm still not any closer to figuring it out. I can get the base chain and first and second row alright , and then it makes no sense to me at all. It is probably really simple but I am not getting it , any way I try doesn't work. Anyone have any tips or tricks I could try ?

From the album: Some of my other projects
I think that's what this pattern was called. I need to find the pattern , I want to do one with black and purples , if I can stop doing mini stuff long enough. -

With the cold weather sticking around , it was time to pull out the afghans . I used up a lot of partial skeins , and it's super warm. -

Maureen also crochets and recently made crocheted coasters. This one can also substitute as a rug for her room box.
