  1. I had a lot of people on Instagram ask me how I made the weathered siding for my house so I am posting a tutorial! Feel free to ask me questions on here or on my IG account (dollhousejournal)! This technique super simple and fun to do! Supplies: Cardboard (I used cereal boxes) Scissors Ruler Pencil White School Glue Acrylic Paint (I used brown and cream) Step 1. Measure and cut cereal box into strips. Step 2. Paint strips with base color and let dry completely. Step 3. Apply a thin layer of white school glue. Step 4. When the glue is tacky to the touch, brush on the top coat of paint. I applied it unevenly, leaving bare spots here and there for a more distressed look. Notes: - I used a glossy paint as the base coat and a matte paint for the top coat. I have noticed the matte paint seems to crackle really well! - The strips do warp a bit when they are painted. I used tacky glue to apply them to the house and they straightened out just fine. You could probably flatten them between heavy books as well.
  2. From the album: Beacon Hill Haunted Mansion

I finished the exterior! I put bricks around the porch foundation but I ran out. Not sure if I will do the rest of the foundation with more bricks or just leave it. I'm kind of anxious to do more on the interior at this point. LOL!

  5. From the album: Beacon Hill Haunted Mansion

I to make a stucco type wall with air dry clay. I also stained some match stix wood pieces for the look of the old-fashioned lath and plaster walls. I may still do the rest of this room with the same technique, although you may notice the other walls have a different finish (wallpaper and stained stucco to muddy it up.
  6. From the album: Beacon Hill Haunted Mansion

A look at the three interior floors. Used the same cardboard technique described in the chimney photo on the foyer floor.
  7. I just registered, however I’ve been working on my first house, The Beacon Hill, since June (2017). I’ve been thankful to find others who have built this model and have provided pictures and/or tutorials on how some of the pieces go together where the instructions weren’t very clear. My inspiration came from The sea hag house by WyckedWood, although I didn’t use drywall mud on the outside bc I couldn’t figure out how she did it - LOL! I haven’t seen anyone else who used the Beacon Hill as a haunted/distressed model, but I really LOVE how hers turned out. I wanted to attach pics, but it says the file is too big. Will have to try later on my laptop instead of from my phone
