Another plush pillow friend-This one is a happy green alien. available on eBay

  2. From the album: Country House - Renovated

This minature Edith Hicks doll that I purchased on eBay completes the girls' collection of Shirley Temple items. Grandma told them she had this doll when she was a little girl, so they believe this is a real antique.

    Cindy Lou Who

From the album: Country House - Renovated

Cindy Lou Who arrived in my mailbox yesterday. Yes, I know she is way too big for my dollhouse, but I ordered her for my niece, not me. My niece Tara is 26 years old, and I am still buying her dolls for Christmas - but for a good reason. She is an actress playng Momma Who in a national tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so Cindy is her baby.

    Angi Gets a Lift

From the album: Country House - Renovated

Woody likes to help Angi get around. Here he is carrying Angi on his back so she can go visit her little friends.

    Ingalls family dolls

From the album: Little House in the Big Woods Cabin (half scale)

Mary at the mirror. I didn't realize until I put her here how low that mirror is! I should move it up a bit.

    Ingalls family dolls

From the album: Little House in the Big Woods Cabin (half scale)

The dolls don't stand up on their own so for now they're leaning on things. I might try sticking wax to the bottoms of their feet.

    Ingalls family dolls

From the album: Little House in the Big Woods Cabin (half scale)

The dolls have wire arms and legs, so they can sit, but it looks best on Pa (the skirts on Ma and the girls get in the way). I might try making Ma an apron.

Here's the half scale Ingalls family with hair and clothes, next to a spool of thread as a size reference. These were made for me as a custom order by Prarie Crocus Studio on Etsy.

    Ingalls family dolls

From the album: Little House in the Big Woods Cabin (half scale)

I don't usually put dolls in my dollhouses, but the Little House cabin seemed awfully empty without the Ingalls family. So I went in search of dolls, which was tricky since I needed them to look a very specific way, and pickings are slim in half scale. I ended up on Etsy where I found patterns for 1:12 dolls and pioneer clothing at Prarie Crocus Studio. I'm not much of a sewer, so I contacted the shop owner to request a custom order. Here's a picture she sent me of the dolls in progress. Whatever happened to modesty...?

  11. From the album: Country House - Renovated

Heather has been helping Grandma prepare for the holidays, so she thought of being a Christmas tree. Actually, she looks more like Cindy Lou Who hiding from the Grinch, but she and her sisters had fun preparing her costume. Amy thought Holly should have been a Christmas tree because she has a Christmassy name; but Heather could handle the costume better. This girl is definitely an over-achiever.
  12. Okay, so today I felt REALLY brave and I just grabbed my polymer clay, Sculpey mold and let rip.... What a frustrating exercise! Thick hands and wrists, too thin arms and legs and the head (after 6 tries) kept on messing me around: every time I tried to do the one ear, I'd mess up the other one. And the dear ears look too big for the head, I had to slice and dice to make them more manageable. I'm also not entirely sure she is small enough - next to the Melissa & Doug Victorian dollhouse doll she looks a bit bigger. But here she is, Miss Modesty (for want of a better name): I haven't baked her yet, I'm not sure what pose I want her to maintain. I have to think of what kind of clothing she'll be wearing and how to get her into them. She is joined together with double twisted chenille stems wrapped in florists tape. The leg joint is folded according to the pose. The arm join has a little L-bend in it. So, I have some questions for you dollmaking experts: Do I pull apart her arms and legs and bake them separately, then reattach? How do I make the clay joins look nice after this procedure? OR Do I maintain a full-body pose I like and bake her like that, then fit/glue clothes around it? If I do bake her in full pose, on what do I position her in the toaster oven? Her limbs are very floppy. I have a new-found respect for all the doll-makers - I had Casey's blog open for inspiration and James Carrington's book and it ONLY took me 4 hours to make the whole doll (while muttering ominously under my breath the whole time)!!!!!
  13. I am super excited (again - hahahahahahaha). Was surfing on Pinterest today and came across the amazing doll creations of Debbie Dixon-Paver http://www.cdhm.org/user/debbie. Turns out she is a South African too. We both ended up following each others' boards (how cool is that???), then I found her gallery of dolls. Miraculously, I saw that she has a Mad Hatter doll that has NOT sold yet (usually if I see a doll I like, it has already sold). Even more fortuitously: she lives in Port Elizabeth, and my Dubai friend is in Port Elizabeth RIGHT NOW for her family vacation. One fast & furious Paypal transaction later and I'm the proud owner of an awesome sculpted doll. This is fate, people, I put the blame squarely on the Wheel of Destiny! My friend can bring him to Dubai safely and then I can indulge in my love of all things Alice in Wonderland. I wanted to make a hat shop (modern, not Victorian), but now that I will have a resident expert, I may just have to give him a suitable abode straight out of the books! Surreal dollhouse build, here we come... Of course, there will be a mysterious smile hovering somewhere near the ceiling..... my favourite cat of all time hehehe. I might as well just stop sleeping, there is just so much to do!
