  1. From the album: Greenleaf Willowcrest - house 6

Making lots of progress while kids are away lots left to do but I am starting to see the house!
  2. Curious about what you experienced folks think! I am skittish of kits but am constantly looking for old or discontinued models on Ebay just because I am fascinated by them. What do you think is a good kit for a not super meticulous newbie? Any models to avoid?
  3. Hello, I've been reading that a person should not sand before painting with at least a primer. But my half scale RGT Front-opening Country Victorian arrived so rough and I was getting splinters from handling it. Besides I heard that Brown paper can be used to sand a dollhouse and my kit arrived covered in the stuff. I thought it would be the best to kill two birds with one stone and I used the brown paper to sand it down. Some pieces are still a little tougher than I would have liked, but I just saw the recommendation that a person not sand until after painting a first coat. Did I ruin my kit? So concerned! Thank you!
  4. Hi! I am picking this cute house up tomorrow - an awesome find from a local seller downsizing her home and she said this has just been sitting. She knows very little about it. Not the kit or even the age. I THINK it is 1:24 scale because she said it measures 34" wide x 32" high x 21deep and believes it has 8-10 rooms. She said she can not turn it to check or get a picture because it is too heavy for her. My question. - does anyone recognize the kit? I would love to get some info (and I am just chomping to get it home so I keep looking for info!) I would love some insight! Looks to be in decent shape - colors will need an overhaul for sure! Thanks in in advance to anyone that can help out!
  5. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

This miniature landscaping is so much more involved than the interior. I'm so perplexed as to what I should do. But I will admit I do like the tree
  6. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

I am starting to prep the exterior for landscaping. Don't know what direction I am going in. But the egg carton front walkway is done. I made a diagram of layout, cut pieces and numbered them. This seemed like the easiest way to achieve the layout. Any suggestions of what you think would look good would be appreciated. Going to go hit Michaels and Hobby Lobby for grass, landscaping material, etc.....
  7. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

So the couch is done and I love it. I recommend chalkpaint for the leather look and feel. It makes it so much easier to work with and make a couch.
  8. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

!ade a little distressed bedside table and "Farmers Market" wood sign. The best part for me is decorating and I'm pretty much there. I just have to figure out how to make smaller minis.
  9. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

After gluing all the shingles I realized I would have liked the flat square shingles. Oh well, next house. I painted the shingles a deep gray, and dry brushed a deep brown. After that dried I used Annie Sloan Dark Wax to age it.
  10. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

After researching a ton on the Internet, I decided to experiment with foam bored to create a brick facade. It relatively easy and inexpensive. I painted the chimney in a base color with acrylic paint
  11. Hi there! I'm a 22 year old homemaker who really enjoys crafting and working with my hands. I also love miniatures I have spent the past couple of weeks researching and I really want to buy a kit. Miniatures are very expensive as are dollhouses and I'm trying to be semi-on a budget! I am looking for your recommendations on a dollhouse kit that ships to Canada and is a reasonable price. I'm also a beginner at building so I'm looking for something I can handle doing myself. I'm really loving the Arthur, the Willow, Coventry Cottage, and one other I can't remember at minute ;) I love seeing all the beautiful creations, I hope to stick around a while! Stefanie
  12. I have an extra Allison , complete in the box , that I don't need. This was the first house I built and somehow ended up with two more , thinking of doing a haunted house with one of them, but definitely don't need the second one . Would be willing to trade for ???? - it needs a new home.
  13. (I'm so sorry if this is not the right place to post this, I can remove it if it's not. I'm just trying to find my way around these forums and I think I'm not able to upload photos until I've been here longer... So I thought I would just create a forum post with the photos instead. Question for members: Where are we generally supposed to post our update photos and descriptions of how things are going?) Unboxing My Willow Dollhouse Kit: My dollhouse kit arrived the other day in the mail! I haven't begun work or anything yet, I'm going to study the guide a little before starting and I have to get supplies on Sunday before I can do much anyway. But I made a little "unboxing" video and took some photos in case anyone was curious what this kit looks like straight from the mail. (These images are from the diary entry I wrote, you can see it all here. The video I made can be viewed here.) My kitty Twitch thinks this is all about him… Front view of the box. The back was plain with the shipping info. So you can see that they didn’t hide the fact that it’s a dollhouse. Thought I’d mention that in case you’re someone who’s buying one of these as a surprise gift. This one was shipped from Overstock.com. The opened box. The shingles there were already popped out of their sheet when I opened it. I guess it got a little knocked around in transit. Closeup views of those shingles and the little bits that I’m not sure if they’re important? (Those little tiny bits you see, smaller than the shingles)… Probably not, but I’ll keep them until I’m positive… Some of the wood damage on one of the sheets. Wood distortion on the back of one of the sheets. Another angle. Lots of little pieces. Closeup view of those little bits I mentioned before. If you can’t tell, it is massive! Haha. It weighs 30 lbs according to Overstock.com I love this. The instructions to the instructions. “DON’T PANIC!”… Well now I am totally going to panic, thanks. ;) If you're interested you can see more of the images on my diary entry, I couldn't post them all in this post.
  14. From the album: The Washington Dollhouse Kit Instructions

The instructions came on one large sheet and the schematic drawings on another sheet. I had to cut the sheets in half in order to scan them. I added symbols on each piece so all you have to do is match the symbols to know which piece goes where. Ive uploaded instructions for The McKinely Dollouse Kit and The Gazebo by Real Good Toys. Their in their own albums.
