  1. Hello from Oregon! I'm a new member and have no idea what I'm doing. This looks like a great place to share and laugh! I own the newest Dollhouse and Miniature shop in the Northwest. I would love to talk to artisians who would possibly consign in my shop. I'm not looking to get rich, I'll be happy to pay the rent. I want to share and have fun! What a wonderful passion we share! I am in this adorable little town, 26 antique shops and almost all are walking distance from each other. Quant little places to grab a snack or even sample wine. I am in the Historic District. Right on Main street in a huge old 2 story house with original hardwood floors throughout. Come and play, visit, meet other miniaturist and have FUN! This is a dream I have had that goes back about 25 years, my grandma and I would sit and plan for hours of what we wanted and what we would do. Some how it's happened. Grandma is here in my heart, guiding me all the way. I moved in here using every penny I could scrounge up, even selling tons of miniatures and collectibles online. Please plan a stop by and share in my dream come true and best of all...I get to live in my "Dollhouse"! mini hugs to all! Wendy Heirlooms...Dollhouse Miniatures & More Aurora Oregon 425-209-9196 exactly 1/2 way between Portland and Salem.
  2. Hi everyone! I'm Jay (20) and I'm new here. I got started on dollhouses because the year before my mother passed, she built me a very cute one that wasn't from a kit and it took her months! I'm working on restoring the one she built as it is 9 years old. I'm also building my first dollhouse, The Orchid. I've built two furniture sets so far, also by Greenleaf.

Front view (awkward angle in the as it's in the shed an too heavy for me to lift by myself!).

When I took this picture, I was still finishing up the stair well, but you can see a wide shot of the rest of the finished room.

    Dinnertime

From the album: Melissa & Doug Reno

This is the first meal of food I made from Polymer Clay. I watched Sugarcharmshop's videos. She has some great tutorials for making miniature food. This table setting has burgers, corn on the cob, and fries, with all the dressing for the buyers.
  6. I have been wanting one of these kits since I was a kid. I have already built a Victorian mansion. can someone help me find a kit?
  7. Hello, I am new to the forum. My name is Angeles and I am from Spain . Excuse my English. I like to show my dollhouses . I leave a link to a video so you can see one of them. I've been watching the dollhouses and are spectacular. Thank you very much! https://youtu.be/zB1s5MJyGFg

This is the light fixture I made to replace the first fixture. I like it but I'm finding it hard to get precise measurements with beginner tools.
  9. Has anyone else heard about the show happening in Chicago? I just found out about it this morning and they are offering classes too! It'll be where the Bishop Show used to be for years. Right across the street from Woodfield mall and IKEA! Here's the link to read more about it http://theminiatureshow.com/index.php?main_page=index
  10. From the album: DIY Miniatures

I had to bring my dollhouse outdoors for better photos. I just returned from Hobby Lobby. They have been asking me to consider teaching classes there. I finally brought my Sugarplum Dollhouse and some of my felted creations. They were all blown away. I'm so happy they liked the results. So now I'm in my craft room designing a flyer. I just created a Facebook Fanpage. I'll be teaching classes on "How To" with basically everything I have made and will make in the future for my Beachside Bungalow (which they sell and are happy I will be promoting that house). So i have to start making classes format and 'needed" supply lists. Lots to do. Starting in September I will teach a weekly class on creating a full Nativity Scene out of felt. I'm really looking forward to meeting and teaching like minded people. Its kind of rough moving to a new state where you don't know anyone. This will give me the opportunity to meet some miniaturists. So happy right now. Im on cloud nine.

So I made a smaller chandelier.....but I actually like the style of the other. This one is slightly different. I'm going to have to stick with this as it is tedious work. I think the size is a bit better. I wish this house had taller ceilings. My next house has to high high ceiling or I have to modify it somehow. what do you think for sizing?
  12. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

First let me apologize for typo errors. My iPad has a life of its own with auto correct. so my interior is becoming more cost everyday. I love this house so much. One because it is small enough for me to display but also because I learned so many techniques. I don't think I'm going to keep the fur rug upstairs. I was trying to replicate those furry area rugs but this is too thick. I might just make a jute rug. A few more things to make, lighting, little miniature fillers and I'll be ready to play with the garden. I can't wait. Thank you to everyone here for your encouragement, and patience in answering all my questions.

So the couch is done and I love it. I recommend chalkpaint for the leather look and feel. It makes it so much easier to work with and make a couch.

    spaandentry2.jpg

From the album: Japanese Inn and Spa Ryokan

There are two views of the spa. I was trying to get a good photo of the rocks. They look better in person. In the photos, the grey "grout" looks overpowering. In person, you can barely see it. The rocks have three shades of brown, but you can't tell that from the photo. The wall of the spa is cedar planks, and looks quite nice. I'm anxious to get more done on this room.

Fireplace is mounted in and window panes are done. front door is done. Now have to focus on molding around front door
  16. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

today was one of those days that nothing was working for me. I was having a difficult time with everything I chose to take on. I should have stopped but I kept pushing on only to get more frustrated. after two days I finished the upstairs fireplace. Not thrilled with bookcase color. I tried to wash off my dry brush but wasn't too successful. I tried to sew so,e pillows but ,y sewing machine was jamming up. Just didn't have the patience to work it out. So pillows on the bed will come later this week. i will say I do like the bed. I have a lot more dressing to do on it but I think it's cute and a great size for this dollhouse. so I would love feedback about the fireplace. Thank you.
  17. I'm already looking for my next house. I know it will be at least two months before I am completely done with my Sugarplum dollhouse. My head is spinning. I like the Westville, and several other small size kits. But I'm also thinking about bashing two Orchids. For those who build many houses, what would you recommend for my wish list. i like an open concept plan with cathedral ceilings, fireplace, stairs, etc.....I also would like mostly one floor. I know this makes it a large footprint but that's why I was thinking of bashing two Orchids, or bashing another Sugarplum with and Orchid.

    DIY Bed

    From the album: DIY Miniatures

It's not going to be the most beautiful bed but it will work. At a later date I will make myself a really nice iron bed. This is more for spacing to see how the room will lay out with the bed in there and for sizing. im making a quick mattress, also for sizing. I'm not so much about the mattress. I'm all about the bedding. for the quick mattress, I measure for size and cut three layers of foam board and glued them together. I took a tip from a tutorial posted on these forums too. I used three layers of very thin batting (I actually cut it out of a old tree skirt). I measured of the batting and cut them to size. The top third layer was long enough to wrap over sides. I then grabbed a new light weight thermal (old Yogawear stock) and cut that to size for covering. Did a few pi tuck stitches too. Believe me, this is quick and not really exact. I had finished the headboard grill last night and finished gluing this morning.

Well, kitchenette is almost there. And I have to say I love the sink and faucet. The Dura Clear Gloss Barnish is fantastic. For anyone who is somewhat creative, I recommend 100% creating your very own custom kitchen. It's time consuming but so rewarding. Don't think I would ever buy a kitchen setup.....maybe a fridge or stove, but not the cabinetry
  20. From the album: Inspiration for next build

I would want this ceiling in either the Diningroom or Greatroom

    Trim work

    From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

trim work is in progress. I can't really completely finish it until the lead tape roll arrives so I can finish the front window and door pane. Still trying to figure out how I'll finish around the rounded door top. I don't really have much room to work with since door top is close to ceiling.
  22. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

i did a couple of Windows with the lead tape. Unfortunately I ran out of tape. Before I order another roll wanted input. do you like this look better than the copper? thanks
  23. This tutorial looks good and I like the end result. Has anyone tried to make realistic lead pane Windows and if so how did you do it. Want to get feedback before I purchase supplies http://glorioustwelfth.blogspot.jp/2011/03/how-to-make-dollhouse-miniature-lead.html
  24. When my sons bought my the 1:24 miniature room boxes, they came with battery operated lights. They were so convenient, especially for making your own lighting. Ive been researching like crazy where I can buy them. This thread keeps coming up in. Y search but it's old. does anyone know if these are available? I can't seem to find them. I found one listing on eBay and I did buy one set but it was $10. That's not a lot but considering a couple of the STWS my boys bought me cost $15 and that was for everything to complete a room box with the lighting. also, is there anyone here who likes to make their own lighting? Would love inspiration or to swap ideas. thanks.
