  1. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

i was originally going to do a full stone facade on the house but was inspired by all the houses in my subdivisions that are brick and stone
  2. From the album: Sugarplum Dollhouse

After researching a ton on the Internet, I decided to experiment with foam bored to create a brick facade. It relatively easy and inexpensive. I painted the chimney in a base color with acrylic paint

  5. So I am in awe of all the splendid work on this site. I look at some of your homes and it makes me want to build a large dollhouse but I really don't have anywhere to display or store large projects. For those of you who build many houses, do you have space dedicated to displaying them or do you build and sell them? If you do sell them, are you sad to see them go? Building is a labor of love.
  6. Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. My name is Mish. I've always been a miniaturist but took a long break and now I'm back. I grew up as a young girl surrounded by dollhouses and miniatures. My parents owned a successful miniature business when I was growing up. My two sons gave me several DIY 1:25 dollhouse rooms for Christmas. This gave me the bug. I happened upon this site because today I managed to snag a new sugarplum dollhouse from a local site for $15. I'm blown away by all the beautiful work in the gallery. I'm really looking forward to exploring every area of this site.
  7. Dear mini friends. For my projects I've used only printed wallpapers( simple paper on a printer) I found on internet. Do you know if the printed wallpapers fade with the time? Thank you
  8. After much consideration, I realize I really don't have the time or the resources to do a good job on finishing the Beacon Hill I just acquired. I bought it sort of by "accident" - it was advertised first as a Garfield and I said I would take it. I was pretty obligated after that so I went and picked it up. Pictures are in my gallery - and I have a box with all the windows and trim etc that are needed to finish the house. It was "parked" in this condition in 1990; rumor has it the lady who was building it got sick, and then died. It is very well made and fully wired with tapewire. Haven't tested it yet to see if that still works after all this time. A few lights are already installed. PM me for the price, which is very reasonable! I will charge no more than what I paid for it. It will have to be pick-up only, in WA state. It's way too big to ship!
  9. I went to pick up the Beacon Hill house the other day and she is now sitting on the workbench in my craft shop. Since this is a Greenleaf house, built in 1990 (or before; work stopped in 1990), I was wondering what the chances are that someone here might know who built it? Not sure when this forum started, but I guess 1990 might be too early for the Internet forums. The story I got is that the lady building it got sick, and subsequently died without finishing the house. She was a master craftsman - it is perfectly put together, all the wallpaper is awesome, tape wiring is installed throughout the house, and few lights are in place. And I have a box of all the remaining pieces to go onto it - siding, trim, windows, etc. Don't know where it has been all this time but it was just sold at a charity auction. I bought it from the lady who got it at auction and didn't want to keep it. Now I just have to wait till Miss Beacon tells me what she wants to be.

  13. I've got to quit buying houses unseen! Awhile back my aunt called me, all excited, to tell me about the cutest little dollhouse she was looking at in a thrift store. The lady told her it was very old (obviously), probably around 1920's or so, and she was only asking $20 for it. My aunt (not a miniaturist) thought it was cutest thing she'd ever seen, etc, etc. So I said okay, and she picked it up for me. Well -- it is old. To that I will agree. And I'm sure some Dad or Grandpa made it with great love for his little Princess. It started with 2 wooden apple crates, and he added on from there. It is very sturdy; not even a hint of coming apart. The siding is RL siding applied in a ship-lap style, and I don't know what the roof is shingled with - probably RL shingles cut to size. Three of the four floors have linoleum, and one has a fabric carpet. Maybe that was the living room. The windows all had curtains, now very faded and tattered, and the walls are wallpapered. The connecting doors are very short (maybe it was a Mouse House), and the front edges are nicely finished with RL trim. I had relegated it to the loft of my Craft Cottage until I started cleaning out unnecessary stuff, and I tossed all the old catalogs and flyers (not mini related) that I had stashed in it. Then I brought it back down to the main floor and was able to fit it under the stairway on top of a small table. I haven't done anything to it, I kind of like the tattered look of it, and I'm using it as shelving for odds and ends of minis. I was quite disappointed in it when I first saw it, as I was expecting a brand name antique treasure, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me. I don't plan to restore it as a dollhouse, but it is a very nice cupboard, shaped like a dollhouse.
  14. Hello Everyone, I recently bought this pretty red dollhouse at a rummage sale. Probably the nicest old dollhouse I've ever had the chance to rehab. All I have to do for this rehab is clean the house, fix some of the porch railings, and replace the yellowed/torn/sticker covered window "glass". Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what house this is. Definitely a kit. Slot and tab construction. There's an extra room added onto the kitchen, but I'm pretty sure that is part of the kit. The last house I brought home was an old Greenleaf Van Buren, and the windows are similar to that. So my guess is that it's another Greenleaf, but I'm not sure.

I used the scaled down pictures that were shown on the regular size kit box from the Laurel dollhouse. I furnished the house using various mini print furniture patterns I found here and there online.
  17. Hi everyone. I'm still looking for the Skilcraft Victorian Manor with Coach House, circa 1979. My parents originally purchased this dollhouse for me at Sears in Oregon, but I haven't been able to find any in kit on eBay, Craigslist, Amazon, vintage and antique stores; I just missed one sold off Craigslist in Long Island in November. Here is a picture with some related facts: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-skil-craft-victorian-manor-429438549 (You do not need to be a member to view this website). Anyhow...I am happy to pay for the kit and shipping or if you see it in your treasure travels, please PM me. I'm in Seattle, WA...also looking for a miniature group to join in the area if you know of any. So far I have only located groups south of Seattle or in Eastern WA. Too far to drive Here is a picture link or see attached file with some related facts: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-skil-craft-victorian-manor-429438549 (You do not need to be a member to view this website). Thank you for reading and happy dollhousing!

Brick surround for the back of the stove, wallpaper, and ceiling paper all in place on the ground floor. Stairway is just setting there; not installed yet.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND! I was browsing the Internet last night, trying to find something to date the flooring and/or wallpaper, when I found this picture. It didn't have an exact date on it, but was shown with other dollhouse styles around 1906. Almost identical to mine!

I carefully removed all the curtains (8 windows) and washed them. Put them to soak in a pan of warm sudsy water - by the third washing the water was clean! Placed them all on this drying rack overnight.

  22. Dear Friends, Dr. Thaddeus Robertson extends his greetings and respectfully requests your presence at the grand gala opening of his new Planetary Observation and Galactic Research Facility. Regretfully, Dr. Roberson has been called away to do some extensive research elsewhere and will not be able to attend. However, he has engaged the employment of a new housekeeper, Mrs. Donovan, who will be more than happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have. <whispered aside: she's mainly there to keep the minions in line but she's a little sensitive about being a "baby sitter" so don't mention that> Feel free to explore the research room and laboratory downstairs as well as the wonders of the Galactic Viewer upstairs. Wander the grounds or enjoy relaxing in the steampowered rocking chair in the greenhouse while you gaze at the stars. Attend the Event here. P.S. Dr. Robertson would like to mention that it's probably not a good idea to sit in the electric chair if the minions make the offer. Those little scamps think it's funny to throw the switch.
  23. From the album: My Latest Mini Finds

Another day of playing "American Pickers," dollhouse style. I went to my favorite hidden "honey hole" and bundled. More great finds at an awesome bargain. She still wouldn't sell me the two kits that I want for ME ("The Old Granville House" from It's a Wonderful Life and "The Stratford Inn" from The Bob Newhart Show). However, I think I am wearing her down. I will finish the hotel and at least one or two of the stores.
