    The Perfect Lawn

From the album: The Garfield by S. Mehreen

I took clumps of flocking material, and patted them down to create a thin layer of grass on the base. I mixed small batches so that the mixture would not dry out while I worked, but the process went quite fast for me. This is the first time that I ever flocked dollhouse lawn, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Read more at: http://thegarfieldblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-perfect-lawn.html

You can use Scenic Cement to glue the grass on, or you can simply use watered down white glue. I have used both during my project, and got the same result. If you are watering down glue, make sure it is not so watery that it will not hold down the grass after it dries. It will be the consistency of full-cream milk, and slightly slimy from the glue. I poured the flocking material into a disposable bowl, and mixed it with the glue so it looked like avocado dip. Read more at: http://thegarfieldblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-perfect-lawn.html

    The Perfect Lawn

From the album: The Garfield by S. Mehreen

Many many years ago, I had bought two Woodland Scenics landscaping kits from Hobby Lobby. I finally dusted off the boxes and was surprised that the Scenic Cement (watered down glue) was still OK to use! I found one medium pouch of "Green Blended Turf" and smaller pouches of "Burnt Grass Fine Turf," "Green Grass Fine Turf" and "Medium Green Coarse Turf," all of which I mixed together in a zip-lock bag to get enough material to flock the lawn. 11. Hi Miniaturists, I had expectations of getting into painting and decorating dollhouse furniture, but it's just not practical right now in my life. I have several rooms of wood furniture that I'd like to sell. All furniture is in its original box but I've taken some room photos so you can see it all together. 4 piece bedroom includes double bed, side table, dresser and blanket chest/toy box. 3 Piece Craft Room – Armoire, work table, stool and tiny thread spools 3 Piece Office/Den – Bookcase, table, chair, will include book and picture frame 4 Piece Modern Dollhouse Living Room Set – sofa, upholstered chair, coffee table and ornate armchair *Note: the upholstered furniture does not come in boxes. If interested, please Message me Thank you!
  12. Hi everyone! I'm back. I'm not sure if this is the right place, or if this post is appropriate. But I am SO excited about this I can't stand it and wanted to spread the word. I had the idea of making a website where dollhouses could be made as paper models (furnished and everything), and I'm also including some printable miniatures for regular builders. All of the items are in "digital kit form" and available for instant download. Anyway, my latest creation is a huge set of printable publications. I've worked out the bugs on how to do ACCURATE double sided printing via a simplification in calibration that works for any printer, and I digitally remastered a bunch of public domain publications. This kit includes 2 books, 4 magazines, 6 comic books, 9 antique maps, 1 atlas, and 4 newspapers). Once constructed, they are able to be read under a magnifying glass, and I include very simple and thorough instructions. I would love it if anyone interested would go and take a look at the site, and tell me what you think. Here's the link: KINETIC PAPER ART- Dollhouse Miniature Books w/ READABLE PAGES Digital Kit And here are a couple images of the finished items. So what do you think? A worthwhile project to pursue? Buying ready made items like this individually costs a fortune.

Here is the back of the Duracraft Farmhouse I bought off an online buy-sell-trade group. Fully furnished for $60! What a steal!
  14. From the album: Doll houses

Here is the front of my Duracraft Farmhouse 505. I purchased it through a local online buy-sell-trade group, fully furnished for $60! What a find! I'm so excited to redecorate it!
  15. Bought this beauty through a local shop'n'swap online for $60 fully furnished. I can't for the life of Google identify it. The closest I've come is a variation on the 1979 Franklin. But the windows are different, the stairs aren't curved and are opposite... Plus some different interior wall placements. Anyone know what it is? Approximate measurements are: 31.5" Height 33.5" Width 19" Deep (which also closely resembles the Franklin) Sorry the photo is sideways, the uploader is giving me the dickens....
  16. I am a new member of your fine community, and I've recently designed and engineered several new miniature dollhouse furniture kits in 1:12 scale that I'll be releasing soon through my company Silver Ridge Modelworks. Attached are some photos of the finished prototypes. There's a writing desk which features real dovetail joinery on the drawers, a round table, and a wall cabinet. The kits will feature all the precut and laser-cut wood parts, and hardware, along with full assembly and finishing instructions. Many hours of fun for those who love to build miniatures. If there's some interest, I hope to produce many more designs. I've been modeling miniatures since I was 10 years old (for me that's quite some time ago). I've built many House of Miniatures kits as well as Shenandoah Miniature furniture kits, room boxes by Houseworks, and more. I also have many years of experience modeling HO scale model railroad structures by the big names in the business - Fine Scale Miniatures, South River Modelworks, and Sierra West Scale Models. After years of building other people's designs, I wanted to try my own hand at designing and producing my own kits. Hence my company Silver Ridge Modelworks. I'm glad to be a part of your community and hope to be an active contributor. Sincerely, Christopher Disdero Sole Proprietor Silver Ridge Modelworks

  18. Someone posted this link on the NAME Facebook group and I thought I would share it here. A work of love, and therapeutic, I'm sure . . . The sad monument was built by John Keating, a local stonemason, sometime between 1868 and 1878 as a way to memorialize the untimely deaths of his two children and a niece. At one point, the intricately-created dollhouse even had small pieces of stone-carved furniture inside, but were eventually lost to vandals. 19. Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself to you all: My name is Maria, I'm 27 years old, married and have two little girls ages 1 & 3. I've always loved dollhouses since I was a little girl but my parents were never able to buy me a dollhouse. I've finally decided now that I wanted to start a new hobby that allows me to do something other than being a mommy. I've recently purchased the Lily dollhouse kit and I'm anxiously waiting for it to arrive! I've read in some places that this kit is difficult for beginners but I'm still confident about tackling my very first dollhouse project. If any of you have built (or are in the process of building) the Lily dollhouse, any tips for this beginner are definitely welcome! Thanks in advanced and I look forward to being active in this community!
  20. Since the topic of steampunk has come up in several threads, I thought I'd start one specifically for the subject so we don't miss anything. Several of us are already into steampunk and I suspect there are others who haven't mentioned their steampunk minis or have yet to discover this most delightful and highly addictive sub-genre to our mini world. Casey and Stacey and I have been talking about the steampunk minis we do and how much fun it is. Casey has Zar, her six inch tall steampunk guru, have been creating all kinds of cool minis on her blog and my imaginary friend is a mini mad scientist named Dr. Thaddeus Robertson so you get an idea of how easy it is to get totally immersed in steampunk creations. Stacey is starting to concoct all kinds of cool things and I think that Lene is also into steampunk. Perhaps we have more? Or perhaps we have some we can convert if we show you how fun and easy it is??? It takes too long to type a description of what steampunk is so we'll let Wikipedia do that for us. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk Basically it's retro-futuristic and/or a combination of Victorian/art nouveau/sci-fi/age of industrialization. It's all very over the top and opulent and luxurious in a way that can make even steam engines look elegant with lots of brass and copper and jewels. There are so many million ways to do steampunk that the only limitation is how far your imagination can go and that's also what makes every steampunk creation so incredibly individual. It translates into miniature so well that it's as if the two were made for each other. It doesn't even require much of a financial investment because the chances are you already have most of the supplies in your dollhouse stash already. (and old clocks, watches, and other gear driven things are cheaply available at second hand stores plus a whole treasure trove of nuts, bolts, and other doo dads at any hardware store for pennies) My steampunk mini gallery is here along with the back story about Dr. Thaddeus. http://www.debsminis.com/steampunk_miniatures.htm <striking a dramatic pose and raising on hand in the air> I swear that I have only begun to steampunk my minis!! Eventually I'll build a steampunk Vineyard Cottage for Dr. Thaddeus and have Julie Campbell create the doll for me (who will probably be based on a photo of my not-so-mad scientist father). I'll let Casey and Stacey show you their steampunk creations and tell about their love of the genre in mini. Hopefully others will join in with their work or ideas or thoughts about exploring a new addiction. As with any other type of mini, we get a lot of inspiration from real life steampunkers.........and just like any other item, if it can be made in real life, we can do it in miniature! So I'm gonna start off the inspiration pics with this one of a steampunk tricycle. Of all the people on the face of the earth, can you imagine anyone else who could rock this ride any better than our own Holly? Hey Holly!!! Can we come to your house and trick out your trike? Deb
  21. Hey Guys! I am so very new to miniature dollhouse building. I started because my cousin's daughter wanted one that she saw put together in Hobby Lobby for her birthday. I helped her do a lot of research to purchase hers so I got interested and decided to work on one at the same time their family is. I am going to need all of the help that I can get so bring on all of the tips you can. I consider myself fairly crafty as I can do beautiful needle and handwork etc. Thanks All, Honeybear96
  22. I have The Beacon Hill dollhouse that my mother started & never finished. I'm looking to sell it but I don't know where I can do that. I would like to avoid shipping it. I'm located on Long Island.
  23. Good afternoon, I found your site about six months ago when I started considering selling the brick-red Pepperwood Farm house my father made for me in the 70s. Like I said, it's brick-red (instead of yellow), each brick was laid individually, the parquet floor was done by hand, and -- each room is individually wired for electricity with individual outlets for lamps. It's absolutely gorgeous. But I had no kids, and have no siblings (so no nieces/nephews). Rather than let it keep sitting in the closet, wrapped in plastic, I thought of selling it. Dad and I would much prefer to sell it to a collector or someone similar in whom we can have faith to take good care of it. I saw a Pepperwood Farm house on eBay for $2,950, but it wasn't nearly as intricately handcrafted, and it didn't have the individual room wiring. Can anyone with ideas on how to sell this house please reply? (i.e., where to post, how to find a collector to buy, how to ship, etc.) Many thanks, - Angela

There are 22 of these little sheets of pieces! Actually, I only have 21 - one is missing and I sent an email to the company. They will mail it to me.
