I have read many recommendations to do an entire dry build with painter's tape. On Gina's truly incredible blog, she suggests not doing that, but just dry fitting pieces before you glue. I have gathered that there are several camps of builders- those who dry build the whole thing, take it apart, paint/wallpaper, and then rebuild; those who wait till the house is built before painting interiors/wallpaper, except for the spots that will become inaccessible. I actually like the idea of putting the whole thing together with tape first, but I haven't seen an explanation of how to unbuild the house afterwards and still know what is what in order to rebuild. Do you just go in reverse order? How do you keep the pieces organized as you take it apart? Thanks!

This is just another shot of the dry fit. I like the color I chose for the lattice. It is actually stain that we have on the woodwork of our RL house. I also used stone textured paint for the balance. I am not sure what I am going to do for the porch and steps. I am just waiting to see what direction the rest of the house takes.© © 2012 Possum Trot Miniatures

I got smart and did the dry fit again after primer and paint. Ended up trimming and sanding most of the tabs. I can always fill them in later.© © 2012 Possum Trot Miniatures

We tested a few different exterior colors. This color was chosen as Renee wants it to be a little whimsical. It is a mis-tint that I picked up at Home Depot. The interior will be pretty straight forward, but this will definitely stand out. Framing might me navy blue or another variation. More than likely it will not end up white.© © 2012 Possum Trot Miniatures

I have not always been big on spending a lot of time on dry fits. However, past experience has taught me this is definitely necessary. This is the largest house I have done to date. It is also the first one I have done where I did not paint and decorate prior to assembly. This will be fun. Yes, I did miss priming one of the walls...lol.© © 2012 Possum Trot Miniatures
