  1. Hi all, first post here. So for some years after we had our daughters, my wife had mentioned getting a dollhouse kit when she was a little, but it was never built, and lost to time. Well, since both her parents had passed, the other weekend we were working on cleaning out the estate, and low and behold, found a NIB Dura-Craft Victorian (VH-600) under a bunch of old mattresses and junk in the attic! Our daughters were so excited to find it, so we got to work right away. The first thing I noticed is the instructions are horrific. Not just that they've been eaten by silverfish, but they're not very easy to follow. However, I am very confident I built the walls exactly per the verbiage and the diagram. Things were humming along great until two days ago- the floors don't fit! For whatever reason, the 2nd floor, the attic floor, and the wing 2nd floor all have about a 1/4 gap around the sides and front, and that's with the edge pieces installed. The roof pieces fit fine, so I can't figure out what's up with the flooring. The only way I can see to get the long ways dimension to go snug would be to either 1- buy new flooring, or 2- trim the long wall down 1/2 inch, but that will throw everything else off. Has anyone else run into this issue? What did you do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: I have several pictures so uploading was not an option. However, I have included a Google Drive link directly to my folder of pictures for ease of use and to help illustrate what I described. (Let me know if you cannot access/see the pictures.) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KXOvRaVumkBQGH8JYbzzsPkkfslB5s2Q?usp=sharing

The owner wishes the house to remain pink, but a softer pink was in order. Much better now!
  3. From the album: Pink Bellingham Rehab 2020

Dry fitting the windows, French doors and working on the porch railings. The owner had cut the hole for the French door rather poorly, so you may notice a couple of shims put in to help fill in the gaps. There is also a gap in the railings- I thought I had enough in my stash and came up short! Argh! Off to buy more....
  4. Hi! My name is Dawn and I am from Alabama. I got interested in dollhouses about 14 or so years ago and bought a Dura-Craft Newberg. I started to put it together, but messed up some of the parts, so it's still in the box. I've had three kids since I bought it and they, along with other things, have kept me busy. I am hoping once we move later this month I can get it put together with replacement parts I have found. I kind of live in a dollhouse. lol It's 768 square feet and I live in it with my husband and our children who are 12, 4, and 2. We have replaced the floors, refurbished walls, and we're going to replace the windows soon. It's cute and cozy like a dollhouse. Thank you all for letting me in your group!
  5. Although in the near term I won't be able to contribute... It is rude to drop by without annoucing your arrival Scott, living in Phoenix, Arizona with family. Years desired to build a dollhouse for daughters, but time and life didn't allow. I hope to refocus later in life and build in On30, O gauge (Lionel) narrow gauge model railroad. Large scale, and motion. Will post in correct forum, will pass on a Dura-Craft Heritage. I looked through a lot of your posts and work. Stunning demonstration of skill, art, focus and patience!

  7. I bought an fh505 for $30 from Craigslist about 2 years ago. I love making miniatures and finally have time to build the house. This is my first build and I am having a little bit of issue with construction. I have read the instructions many times over, and I've examined the pictures, but I'm still not sure I'm assembling it correctly. I don't want to mess it up. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of their progress AS they are building? Im a visual person and hope if I can see the way someone else is doing it, it might help me to figure out if I'm doing this correctly. Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello Everyone, I've just joined the website community and I'm in need of a copy of the instructions for Dura-Craft FM 500 Farm House. I haven't built a doll house in years, but I'm eager to get back in the game. Can anyone help me get a copy of the instructions? Thanks! Molly in Northern California

  10. Hi! I want to start off apologizing if this has already been asked. I'm a complete newb when it comes to making dollhouses and I'm new to this site as well! I am ecstatic as I was recently given a Dura-Craft Columbian kit. It was already half assembled and I've gotten a lot done already. However, it seems there are a lot of pieces missing. It seems mostly trim/decorative pieces which I can work around. Unfortunately it's missing all the pieces for the stairs, front steps and the gable trim which I would really like to have. I see Dura-Craft went out of business in 2005. Is there anywhere to get these parts or any resources where I could download/buy the scaled pattern/blueprint to print off and cut myself? Anyone know of any company that specializes in Dura-Craft replacement parts that might have these as well? I did a quick search and I'm a little worried as I'm not finding much. Thanks!
  11. From the album: Dura-Craft Ashley Rehab

Bought this already constructed Dura-Craft Ashley at thrift store. Some of the pieces need repair, paint needs touch-up and needs some regluing, but I intend to not change it too much. Will make it into a quilt shop.
  12. I have a Dura-craft San Franciscan 550 kit, still in the box. I've decided to sell it, but am unsure if there are better ways to go about this than eBay. I found this forum when looking up info on the kit, so I thought I'd see if anyone has any tips or advice...or maybe even know someone who is looking for one? Back story: My parents got it for me back in the mid-80's. It was discounted (about half price)...because it was missing some pieces. My stepdad being a carpenter, figured he could work some magic to get it all together. Upon opening the box, he found an order form for broken/missing pieces. Realizing he could save himself the task of recrating parts, he took tally of what was needed and ordered them from Duracraft. Shortly there after, we moved & the box was put up in the rafters of the garage. I got older, it never got put together. 25+ years into the future, my parents found the box & gave it to me. I thought maybe I'd put it together, but the reality is, I don't really have the room. I don't have kids that could enjoy it. Putting it together would be fun, but I fear then it would just be in the way. So, techincally it's an open box, which seems like it would steer away potential buyers on eBay. The missing parts sent from Duracraft are still in their unopened shipping tube. So, I have no reason to believe that there are any missing parts, but maybe this is intimidating to buyers? Shipping it would surely be a task, as it's big, heavy and in two boxes (one big box & one tube). Any advice? I suppose posting it on craigslist would avoid the whole shipping thing, but I fear it wouldn't be seen as well. I'd rather it go to someone who's been hunting for it, as I know how great it is to finally score a long searched for item. Also, I have a Greenleaf 56 piece dollhouse furniture kit. The contents are in excellent condition. The box is worn & has tape on it, but the insides are perfect. All intact with proper stickers & paperwork.

  14. So, I'm happily building along, thinking I've done a great thing by upgrading my plain porch spindles and posts with Houseworks upgrades. THEN I see M & D's FABULOUS Victoria's Farmhouse and how they used 2-3 colors on each of their spindles (instead of just one color), and I'm thinking... dang! I gotta paint all my spindles like that because it looks so awesome! <Cue psychological breakdown here> Am I insane? For one thing, this is my first build and I've started with a doozie of a house as it is. For another, I have something like 70+ spindles to paint, and I've already spent several evenings putting the first coat on and then SANDING EACH ONE BY HAND when the paint caused the grain to rise. But, man, their porches look so cool! And I've never seen anyone do that to a Dura-Craft Victorian Mansion before. What do you guys think? I've attached pictures of several paint options (please ignore the horrible slap-on job I did... just trying to get an idea of what color goes where). I have one of the porch posts in there too... not sure but I'm leaning towards the garnet color on the ball thingees and the lighter grey color (sorta hard to see, maybe I should go darker?) on the flat part in between all three ball sections. Suggestions, comments, advice, tips, etc., etc., all greatly appreciated! FYI, since you can't really tell in the picture, the colors on the spindles are light grey at the bottom of the one closest to the post, light grey on the long flat part with white on the balls on the spindle in the middle, and the last spindle on the right has grey on the top two balls above the two red ones.
