I originally used the eggshells but didn't like the look. I've changed to use the egg carton and I love it so much better! -

I cut out "flagstone" shapes from heavy packing material I've been saving. This stuff is like super egg carton material and is usually formed into supports to protect an item during shipping. It's about 1/16 inch thick. I laid them out on the base I cut for the cottage to create a meandering walkway heading around the side of the house.© DAL Minis

I cut them from the packaging cardboard found in electronics this cardboard is very similar to egg cartons. I stuck each one down to the adhesive side of contact paper and misted several colors on them using any kind of spray paint laying around the house including Chevy Orange engine paint that my son had until I achived the look that I liked then I heavily coated them with clear matte acrylic. I then glued them to the foundation and I will grout them with a gray grout.- 8 comments

What do you recommend to seal egg carton brick, stone, etc., that isn't shiny? I tried some matte varnish that claimed to have "virtually no sheen." But when I applied it to painted egg carton brick, it dried very shiny and ruined the rough texture. Thanks for any suggestions!
