I'm laying out a parquet floor design for the Heritage house by Duracraft right now...the instructions booklet advises that I use contact cement to adhere the floor because any sort of water-based glue will warp the wood strips because they're so thin, and stain the floor after it's been adhered. I'd like to use multiple shades of woodstain in different parts of my parquet design & feel it would be too difficult to keep each color separated to the appropriate pieces once everything is glued together. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can stain the wood pieces prior to adhering them without them warping? I worry that weighting them down to keep them straight might rub off the stain unevenly as it's drying...

I've been looking for the smaller scale wood siding and flooring - in particular the sheets of wood that usually come in 3" X 24" sheets. I would like it to be grooved and all that I can find in the 1/16" grooves is only sold if you buy 10 sheets of it. That's like $25 - $30 plus shipping. I only need a couple of sheets though. Any suggestions? It looks a little like 'bead and board' but I think its generally just grooved wood with either 32 or 16 grooves per inch. Fat chance finding it, enh?

I had a few other projects I was hoping to finish by now, but I spent the last few weeks telling myself I could open up the kit during Spring Break. Yesterday I broke out the kit and started popping out the pieces so they could be painted, sanded, etc. The main floor of the dollhouse is warped - not terribly, but I need to do some research about how best to fix it before I glue anything else in place. -

Using popsicle sticks cut at random lengths. Sanded with mouse sander, used 120 then 220 grit. Mixture of 50/50 white paint /water brushed on then wiped off. Five coats of water based poly, sanded between each coat. It is perfectly imperfect, some spaces, which I can certainly live with. I loved the floor so much I had to repaint the left room from dark to a medium purple. I will have to make a new top step on staircase as step and the raised height of sticks do not line up. Hopefully soon be able to glue the roof on as my cats are getting used to the open roof concept and are always racing each other to get the top spot in the house. Much more sanding to do before then as well as windows in dormers. -

I found a scrapbooking product to stain the floors - "Distress Stain" in walnut. It's designed for paper & porous surfaces so I figured I'd try it out and see what happened. Very happy with the end result. I used a coat of matte spray sealer over the top once dry. -
Hey all. I was just looking on ebay and found the most beautiful adhesive backed vinyl flooring sheets. They are SO pretty but I hesistate a bit to buy them only becasue when I used to scrapbook, they made vinyl letters that were adhesive backed and they never stayed stuck down (although I realize they may have been using inferior glue) but not only that, the vinyl always curled around the edges. Has anyone had any experience with digitally printed vinyl sheets or tile for their dollhouse? Here's the tile sheet just in case you're wondering: Red Victorian TIle Sheet This seller is from Greece and he has many more lovely patterns. Thanks

What do you think? Because I think it's too much, but I think I'm already in love again. I found this free flooring printie and wanted to see how it looked compared to the linoleum type flooring I'd already measured out. (Btw, using the ruler and gridlines in paint can save you from wanting to throw your computer across the room.) I don't know how the outside of the cottage turned out green and the cabinets too, while everything else seems to be screaming for shades of blue with compliments of green and yellow? I feel this cottage is turning into what my future RL house is going to be - with each room a different, colorful, crazy thing that I found on pinterest and fell in love with!!! -
So, my daughter can't decide what kind of flooring she wants... I've shown her several colors of carpeting on a website I found. I've also shown her some hardwood strips and laminate. So far nothing has really intrigued her :/ I don't think it's that she doesn't like it- I think she is just wanting something different. So far everything we've seen has been common stuff that you see in houses all the time. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?... I was just wondering if any of you have some insight or suggestions on flooring? Go-to websites? Maybe you've found some unique/different patterns or even created your own? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! As some of you may already know, this is our first build. And I'm definitely NOT the crafty type lol I can't even sew! This is all for my little girl- she's the artsy one in the family lol But she's just as lost as I am right now.

Any suggestions on laying down a nice looking floor without spending too much? I was considering peel and stick tiles. Super cheap and easy to cut. However I'm not sure if this is the best approach. Thanks for the help.

As described in this thread: http://www.greenleaf...showtopic=36495 I've used real slate (gathered and cut myself) for mini roofs in the past, but not for floors. And I had neither the time nor the inclination to add real slate to this particular project, but I really wanted the look—in a room where there's a wood fire going and a lot of heat being generated by the sugaring process, for months running, a slate floor just makes good sense. This faux-slate floor came out great, with no materials at all except paint . Note: The base of the 2014 HBS Contest kit is MDF, so it has no grain to contend with as plywood might. 1. I took a small power sander, dinged the heck out of it in a few different ways, smashed it with a hammer randomly, etc, 'til it had the surface texture of slate. 2. Then I painted it blacks and greys until it had the look of slate. 3. I laid out the "tile" shapes, and used a tiny router bit to make score marks delineating the edges of the slate floor "tiles"—in other words, I dug *down* through that dinged and painted surface. So the "grout" color is the original color of the base's wood. 4. Last, I gave it several coats of paste wax and buffed the dickens out of it between coats. Not only does it look very similar to slate, after the wax it even feels a lot like slate flooring would. Simple, inexpensive, and results that surprised me. I had no idea if this would work when I started! -

I decided on this flooring because its kind of beachy looking. I was going to use it just for the kitchen, but I didn't have enough wood pieces to do wood flooring in the living room so I decided to just roll with it and do the whole downstairs with this. -

The shop's floor is done in a bit of scale random-width pine flooring I had leftover from another project, and the walls are done in beadboard panelling. I wanted the shop to have a warm, honeyed look that contrasts nicely with the slightly grungy look of the work room, stays true to the woodsy nature of any maple-sugaring business, and makes mini visitors want to buy buy buy all those maple goodies! -

See the previous photo for a step-by-step description of how I did this floor. It's been said that it also looks a great deal like soapstone, so if you've ever wished for mini soapstone countertops, you may want to give this method a try. I'd probably ding it a bit less for soapstone, though. -

Living room floor today, just wanted to share the pic of this tool... its the (Midwest Products) Easy Cutter Ultimate...its that weird thing in the upper left corner with the blue handle... This "snipper" cuts wood up to 1/2 inch thick, angles, you name it. $16 @hobby lobby with coupon! -

The shed's interior is "unfinished" so the studs are visible. The floor is covered with sandpaper painted grey, I like things neat but to be realistic, I guess I'm gonna have to grunge up the walls and floor. -
I bought some very tiny mother-of-pearl tiles that I want to use on the bathroom floor. If I was tiling a real bathroom, I'd be using grout to lay the tile. What do you use in mini-land? I also bought coffee stirrers to use in rooms where I want "hardwood floors" (so to speak). Any tips on how to stain these and lay them down so it looks realistic? Thanks!!

A full shot of the Duracraft Newberg interior. Wallpapered with Minigraphics Wallpaper Mucilage from Hobby Lobby with a foam brush - for my first time, I'd say it went rather well. What is left? Baseboard, Chairrail and the wood flooring that my husband is going to cut at work :-) Mitering 101 for me! -

This back corner was challenging - I needed arms about 2 feet longer with a few more joints in them so that I could bend them every which way to get in the furthest corner where the stairs will come up. If only this website had existed 20 years ago where I would have discovered how much smarter it is to create these templates BEFORE you glue the majority of the house together instead of AFTER! -

I should be able to lift these paper borders out and place them onto a sheet of poster board to trace around making a full floor template. My intention is to make my own hardwood floor on the poster board out of strips of wood laminate, staining and varnishing to my liking. Then I can lay the flooring down and glue if needed. I plan to wire for lights, so the flooring will cover wires running around for the floor below. I'm not sure if I want to glue the floor down permanently or not yet. I may just leave it laying there to make wiring issues easier to solve. It depends on how well it lays down.
