  1. I have several sheets of Handley House wood flooring and I'd like to use it. But I would like the floor to look like it was whitewashed. I watched an online video of someone whitewashing a wall but that wood is so much thicker and I'm afraid of the dollhouse wood flooring buckling if I put that watered-down white paint on it. Any suggestions?
  2. I painted the 3 floors the pink I wanted. Then I scored floorboards with the back side of my utility knife, to see if I liked it. After an hour and with very sore hands, it came out quite nice. But the lines weren't very visible and the pink was a bit too bright and new-looking. Then I sanded the floor a bit to pick up the edges of the floorboards. There is some white showing through from the primer layer. To tone down the brightness of the pink and to age the floors, I'm thinking of using watered down brown acrylic paint and giving the floor a thin wash, rubbing it off in places and letting it seep into the cracks of the floorboards. Any advice for me before I take the plunge? Here is a picture of the floor just before I sanded it down a bit. http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/?app=gallery&module=gallery&controller=view&id=121440
  3. My mother has recently begun to finish a Duracraft Victorian dollhouse she and my dad started about a century (just kidding) ago. He had everything set up beautifully, and she has had no trouble up till now. She is trying to put the floor into the turret and it just doesn't look like it is going to fit. She's adjusted angles, but the floor is about a quarter of an inch or more too big all around. Is it the custom with the kit to have to trim the floor to fit? Will she be sorry if she does? Help! This project is very dear to her, and all of the family are looking forward to the finished product. Does anyone out there have some good advice?
  4. From the album: 2014 HBS Creatin' Contest--Erabliere Aucoin, Sugar Shack and Shop

The shop's floor is done in a bit of scale random-width pine flooring I had leftover from another project, and the walls are done in beadboard panelling. I wanted the shop to have a warm, honeyed look that contrasts nicely with the slightly grungy look of the work room, stays true to the woodsy nature of any maple-sugaring business, and makes mini visitors want to buy buy buy all those maple goodies!
  5. From the album: The Shadeland Mansion ( The Pierce)

Just might have to try this, nice for storage or to hide wires even.
  6. Desparately in need of the wonderful ideas people share here. Working on my RGT Contemporary Ranch and want to make my sunroom/dining room wood floor shiny. I made it from popsicle sticks and have stained it but I want a really shiny finish. What's the best way? Lu Ann
  7. From the album: More building projects

This will be the floor upstairs in Katie's living quarters.
  8. From the album: More building projects

I thought it took a long time to do a 1" scale floor , this one ( for the Fairfield kitchen ) seemed to take twice as long and is only half the size . One down and five to go.
  9. From the album: My First Rehab Project - Jewel

This room had a yellow shag carpet ( ) in it - was going to put new carpet in , but I just love this flooring. These are the same shade with the grain alternated.
  10. From the album: My First Rehab Project - Jewel

Putting my veneer sheets to work , first attempt at "fancy" flooring .
  11. I was thinking of putting a drawer in part of the base for storage , but I like this idea even better. It is meant for a RL house but would come in handy in a dollhouse. They have a lot of great ideas on this site . www.sbsdiy.com
  12. Hi, Would appreciate recommendations for applying a shine to wood floors, staircase, doors, etc. I am familiar with MiniWax but would rather use something non-toxic. The flooring I am applyng is Houseworks Red Oak Wood. Thoughts? Would it be awful not to apply a finish of some type? I do like the way the floors look. However, I still have the rest of the woodwork to consider. Thank you! Helaine
  13. Hello Everyone, I have been away from dollhousing for awhile but just got the Victorial Cottage Jr. special edition kit. It comes with grooved floors already and I am just wondering if I have to do anything to finish them or simply leave them as they are? They seem to have a very thin layer of varnish already and was wondering if anyone else doing the project ran into the same issue? Thanks
