  1. Veiled

    Finished exterior

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

House laying on its back while window and windowboxes are glued in. I'm happy with the result!
  2. Veiled

    Kitchen dry-fit

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Here she is! Since I took this pic I glued everything in without too much difficulty. I'm happy with the result. I still need sink hardware and a few other things (cooktop), but progress is progress.
  3. From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

I have a staircase starting here, beginning with several risers climbing toward the window and then angling 90* at a landing before climbing up behind the parents' bedroom. One of my favorite things about stairways and hallways in minis is the ability to hide them in slightly-believable places but outside of center-stage display space. That said, this feels quite artificial. Any suggestions are welcome.
  4. From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

This was a DIY set of cabinets made from cast-off parts of kits (walls and dust covers etc). The uppers are nonfunctional. The "stainless steel" in the sink, compact dishwasher, and oven is from the seals from peanut butter jars.
  5. Veiled

    Exterior progress

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Dark grey for foundation, mixed white and dark grey for a milder color on the rest of the house. Mixed my cherry red and the same dark grey for an autumnal door and shutters. White trim. Making do with just 3 colors!
  6. Veiled

    Window boxes

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Flowers from various Mayberry Miniatures kits, mostly pink loft.
  7. Veiled

    Ceilings

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Texturing the ceilings--I forgot to paint them when detached, so I just flipped the house onto a C-table and did them now! Kitchen backsplash to the right, got a little paint on it but nothing I can't fix.
  8. Veiled

    Kitchen draft 2

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Cardboard cupboards with completed backsplash and countertop bashed from different parts of Mayberry's kitchen set (here), which is just too small (1:32 with a fridge the size of a locker) to suit my plans. Plan for the counter is to cover it in paper to make it look like butcher block. White cabinets seem like the easiest thing to do.
  9. From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

This is a rough cardboard mockup of a kitchen. From closer to the viewer to further, there is a fridge, dishwasher door, sink, and stovetop/oven. I'm planning a trash can beneath the window and a hutch between the window and the door. I'm going to extend the uppers above the fridge and I'm considering a break in the uppers above the sink, just for aesthetics.

    Dry fit

From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)

Here is what I'm thinking for the floor plan: Attic level: boys and girls bedrooms and jack-and-jill bathroom, bathroom with false door to "hall" which receives the stairs from the second floor. In reality, that's where I'll stash all my electrics since I'm using round wire and batteries rather than tape wire and a transformer. Second level: master suite with bedroom and office to left, bathroom to right, and stairwell passing through. There will be a landing in the foreground (currently covered with blue masking tape), and doors from the bedroom and bath will open onto this. To make it a truer "suite," there is a passage behind the stairwells (toward the front of the house and further from the camera) between the parents' bed and bath. Main level: Living room with lots of play space for kids to left, a rather compact kitchen to the right, and stairwell ascending away from the viewer between them. There is hall space toward the back of the house to enter the kitchen. I am debting placing a half bath beneath the stairwell, vs. having that space open to the kitchen or using it for a washer/dryer. Thoughts?

    The White Rose

From the album: The White Rose

Installing baseboards can be a challenge. The angles in the attic require cutting the baseboards carefully. For baseboard for this house I'm using a 1/4 inch 1:12 scale chair rail that is only 1/16 inch thick. While this would translate into a 6 inch baseboard in real life, that's still within acceptable range. And the grooves give it nice interest that the straight flat baseboards lack. I got the last of this product (3 sticks) from the vendor. Other places are out of stock so hopefully I will be able to get more of this in the future.
