  1. Hi Everyone! I gave my brother the haunted cottage as a surprise last week and he loved it! I made a lot of the interior items myself and used kits for the fridge and stove. This was SO much fun to do, I'm considering doing a larger one next. Again, I want to thank everyone who helped guide me thru with their tips and suggestions. This is a wonderfully supportive forum! I'll post Missy

  3. Hello, my daughter and I got a free dollhouse that we are turning into a fairy house. I am not sure what it is.... That inspired me to buy an Orchid kit to turn into a Haunted House. I am having troubles figuring out if I should paint before assembling? Is there anything else I need to do before assembling?
  4. From the album: Ravenscroft Manor

I love looking at the lights at night :)
  5. Hello everyone! It's been a VERY long time since I've had a dollhouse and have never built one, so this is new for me. I'm a home haunter (someone who LOVES Halloween and decorates to the extreme and builds their own decorations), so I got the Orchid kit to turn into a haunted house. I spend a lot of time building decorations for the outside of my home, so I tend to neglect the inside. Since it's really hot outside right now, my Halloween builds have come to a screeching halt, so this project will be a great thing to keep me in the Halloween spirit until the cool weather returns! I'm excited to get going. The only problems I foresee are: 1) I'm not good with directions - meaning, I don't usually read them. lol! and 2) I get excited with a project when I see it in my head and tend to rush to get it done. I'm hoping this project teaches me to slow down, take my time and have patience. I'm going to cruise around here and see everyone's work and hopefully learn some tips and tricks! Deb
  6. This is my first foray into dollhouse making. It's a French country style cottage I spent a couple of month's worth of spare time on. It was great fun! Perhaps next winter I'll try something else...
  7. I have been inspired by Otterine's amazing Haunted Heritage and I'm not looking for the perfect to kit start my own "haunted build". I want to build a house inspired by the rl abandoned farm houses & homesteads around the area I live. My plan is to build a house that is run down, but is still inhabited. I'm looking for a house that would preferably have some gothic styling or old farmhouse charm out of the box. I think have narrowed it down to the following: Greenleaf Westville Greenleaf Magnolia Dura-Craft Newberg RGT Victoria's Farmhouse What do you all think? Which would lend itself best to that creepy, dilapidated look?
  8. It occurred to me this morning that many of us have made haunted houses and in honor of the day, it would be fun to take a look at them. Since they're scattered hither and yon, I though it would be nice to have a central index -- a road map, as it were -- to find them. If you have a haunted house, will you post a couple photos and a link to more photos in this thread? My haunted house is a Washington 2.0 by Greenleaf. Here's a photo of the front of the house and one of the skellies who inhabit the Haunted Hangout. See more on my blog, here. .
  9. Hi all.. I am working on a Greenleaf Haunted House, which will become a Witch's House.I am currently at the stage where the shell is finished and I need to start thinking about the exterior. There are more photos in my gallery. I chose this particular house as I felt it had a good, versatile layout that I could take in various directions depending on where inspiration took me. This is where I am torn. When I came up with the original concepts for this, the vision I had in my mind was more of the old tudor tumble down cottage - wattle and daub, timber beams etc, so it would be more the English country witch. Then I was thinking about the possibility of the run down, weathered American. And then I saw a photo of an orange painted lady and that just threw me for a complete spin. I can't decide which way to take this! There are a few photos attached of various inspiration I have collected. Obviously the house would not be finished as a copy of these as it's a different shape, but I am just not sure which overall "look and feel" to follow. As far as the interior and such, I am going for the look of a "real" witch's house... while I have a few pumpkins, a black cat, owl etc, it's more the believable magic universe, not a cartoony Halloween house so I was worried the orange painted lady style might not compliment that and the older weathered look would be better. But at the same time - I've never done the old weathered and aged effect and have no idea how to achieve it. Just wondering what other people's thoughts and suggestions would be! I think I have too many ideas going on!

Step 1 - make the base! I remember now how fiddly these things are to make! Covered in glue already.

  12. I've been working on a Haunted House kit which I'm changing into a fairy house. I'm just about finished with the outside, and now I gotta figure out the inside. I know nothing about fairy houses, LOL, I just decided to play with this house and was using it as a guinea pig for my landscaping practice, stone practice, etc. Can you all look at this thing and tell me what kind of furnishings I should put in the house? Does a fairy house have a bathroom? What about kitchen/dining area? HELP ME please!!!! LOL! http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=5891
