    Magnolia Hinges

    From the album: Eternity Point

Finally sanded the recesses for the hinges on the front balcony doors. Then had a nerve-wracking 25 minutes trying to assemble everything with epoxy glue, poking holes to insert the screws and make sure everything is positioned correctly to dry properly. The glue said 30 minutes' working time - ha, they lied! Airconditioning made it dry out much quicker, by the end I had glue all over my fingers, I was in such a hurry to get everything done. A pity the chocolate box holding the wall stable is empty.....

  2. I had a chamois disaster. One set of doors only had 2 chamois hinges and is flopping about, plus it doesn't open all the way. Second attempt: I put 3 chamois hinges, but the doors still won't open all the way. So I gave up and ordered brass hinges online. Now I need advice with the actual positioning. 1. Do I still need 3 hinges per door or will 2 work well? 2. Do I put the hinges in between the door's side and the side wall so that you don't see it when the door is closed? 3. Or do I put the hinges on the outside of the door and frame so that you can see them, on the side to which they will open? Like this door: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=81198 I've found some tips to poke a starter hole, then glue the hinge surface lightly to the door surfaces before pushing in the nails. Please help before I become unhinged in the process!
  3. I am FINALLY at an interesting point in the build. I'm getting ready to do the French Doors for both balconies upstairs. The door frame consists of a cut-out rectangle of wood with the plastic window insert. I am going to try and hinge them with some chamois leather. Since there are different thicknesses involved, I am not sure which slot on which side of the house walls needs to have the chamois insert to finish them. Walls: Trim / Wall / Trim = 3 eighths of an inch total Door: Frame / plastic / Frame 2 eights of an inch (one quarter). So there are 3 thicknesses in the house wall and only 2 in the door. If I insert the chamois in between the OUTSIDE trim and the house wall, the doors will be flush with the outside of the house (and recessed on the inside). If I insert the chamois in between the INSIDE trim and the house wall, the doors will be recesses on the outside and flush with the inside walls. Which method did any of you use (even with another build) and which one looks better? I've never had a house with doors like that so I don't have a clue. Any advice is most welcome!!!
  4. Hello All! After much frustration and 3 houses later, I found an easy way to hinge the door of my Orchid so it will be able to stand up to play. Alter this for yourself as you wish. The pictures and instructions can be found in my gallery.
