From the album: Moonlight Retreat — 1:24 scale Lighthouse Reimagined
I’m bashing a GL 1:24 scale lighthouse into a tree house. It will be home to some forest creatures and a special character (to be revealed later). I’m using the kit as the bones for a redwood, damaged at the top. I’m using Houseworks windows and door and it will be electified. Dry fit is started I’m waiting on another matching window and shutters for the second floor, due to arrive this week.© DAL Minis

I also cut the doorway into the lighthouse panel. To the right of the doorway, is the next panel's angled join and to the right of THAT, is the new triangular piece of wood to fill in the gap in the front wall. Now I can start gluing, spackling and painting the extension pieces to the Maggie. The lighthouse is going to remain a separate piece to make it easy to move it around.© Lene Pieters

I cut the long triangular section to extend the front wall at the same angle towards the LH sloped wall. Then I cut a small triangle to rest on top of it, extending the porch floor into that new corner.© Lene Pieters

This morning, I introduced the Lighthouse and Magnolia to each other. They seemed to hit it off quite well and I've been humming Fiddler on the Roof songs all morning long hahahahahahahaha. I tried a few configurations and would really appreciate some advice from the bashers please? Option 1: LH joining on the left (against the blank wall). Pro - blank wall, I can add a door. Con: Roof alignment (sloping down towards the LH) means it may look a bit disjointed. Option 2: LH joining on the right, flush in the middle with the balcony. Pro - might flow better, cut window opening into a door. Con: lose one window, two side bay windows will look a bit out of place staring into blank walls and the two joining walls are not equal length to start with. Option 3: LH joining in the oh-so-conveniently cut gap, looks like they're conjoining already, hey? Pro: looks like it was meant to be, precise angles work better for my OCD. This leaves the balcony closed on one side. I can keep the main part of bay area with 2 adjoining windows. The roof might need adjusting somehow. Con: cannot really think of one! Do shout if you spot an obvious glitch please. Let me know, my heart is thumping a bit faster at all the possibilities already hehehehehehehe.

The new join of the front facade. The porch roof will be finalised at a later stage, but for now, the only changes were to cut a sliver off the second floor roof to accommodate the sloping lighthouse walls.© Lene Pieters

The new interior view. I used the lighthouse door frame to show where the new connecting door will be cut into the lighthouse wall. It is on a sloped wall - this should be interesting to paint/wallpaper! To the right of the door, is an open sliver that will be filled with extra wood to close the room off.© Lene Pieters

The new join showing the center bay wall with a diagonal section cut out to fit flush against the lighthouse wall. The left bay window wall has disappeared. I am going to glue back the window pane sections to make this a solid wall instead of a window. The second floor balcony will not connect with the lighthouse. What a lot of measuring, cutting, filing, carving and sanding to get all the angles right!© Lene Pieters

The first floor had a sliver cut out (one sixteenth less than a full inch) to allow the bottom of the lighthouse to slide into the Magnolia. This brings the second floor in line with the lighthouse wall, so no need to fill in anything.© Lene Pieters

I have stuggled more with this kit than any other. Getting the walls up took more patience than I had. After a couple of temper tantrums and a roll of masking tape, I called for back-up. I don't know how a person could get this kit together without help. And, I don't like the stairs just floating there on the walls like that. The openings in the floors don't allow enough room for rails. What to do? -

I got this half scale lasercut Savonarola chair kit from SDK Miniatures. It's exquisitely detailed and comes with a separate gluing jig that must be assembled first. This is a *new* product on their website and I fell in love with it for my half scale lighthouse, which is next up on my construction calendar. It is pricy and more than I usually will pay for a furniture kit, but it is exactly what I envision for the lighthouse.- 4 comments

My poor little half scale lighthouse has been languishing, half naked, on a shelf in the studio for well over a year. I lost momentum thanks to all my health issues and had closed the door to the studio until recently. I'm working my way up gradually and even tho I won't hit the same level that I used to, it feels soooooo good to be able to do just a few minutes a day. I've started by completing my UFOs---two quarter scale fairy houses and this half scale lighthouse. I researched stonework done on the east coast for an article about brownstones for the Gazette and the beauty of that stone captured my imagination. The end result is a mixture of three types of stonework combined into what my historian friend assures me is an accurate representation of an east coast lighthouse. The fun thing is that I custom built the 1:12 scale "Point Luck" lighthouse for this same friend which was a totally different style and yet still historically accurate. I love how one kit can be so many things! But onto the eye candy! You can find the "Half Scale East Coast Lighthouse" in my gallery here or you can see a few more detailed pics on my website here. Someone asked me about the full scale lighthouse so here's the link for it if you'd like to see how the two vary from one another in more than size. Oh, I almost forgot the teaser pic! LOL!! Deb

I have been working on the lighthouse latley, ie a few minutes here and there, which is starting to give some result. As w top roo. Floor now is stained and varnished and the "walls/windows" have beentemporarilu put in there, the idea of making one of the walls into a door struck me, will have to make a few adjustments here and there, but I think it can be done? Will have make some changes to the exterior trim as well, but I think that will work... Instead of a lamp area it will be a cozy room, a comfy chair, a small table, a telescope for bird watching and perhaps if space allows a bird cage. Hugs
