From the album: Found Treasure
I have been waiting 2 years to take the cathedral off its base and remove the giant dusty old speaker blocking my view of the interior! Today I had 2 new bases made, one for me to work on and the other for it to set on while I map out a floor plan, my husband has some ideas for pillars and arches inside so this should be exciting! Here you see I took off the 2 spires and another section as well, it was not attached to its base except with a few dowels that it sat on. And so all this time I thought it would take 4 people to remove it. Its actually light and it took only 2. -

The interior walls are not finished, the velum covering some of the windows is loose or falling down, I have plans to add interesting mouldings where I can. Am debating on a few pillars on each side of the isle. I had some very cool mouldings to attach to the square dowel frame holding up the chandelier. But I had to wait hours for the glue to dry, then spray painted it to look old, I could not wait any longet to see if it fit, and actually it did not fit, I had to take it back out and cut off an inch at the bottom. At least now you can see the lighting from the doors. I need to get rid of some of the 100 year dust as it was causing me trouble last night as I was trying to get more lighting installed above the walkway! And again looking forward to the second base with cheery happy colors. -

This base is cheery, it helps illuminate the inside of the catherdral with the colors alone. Getting the lighting issue figured out also. -

If I decided to open a section in the front, I may be able to hang the chandelier from the ceiling. -

The velum window covering was so loose on one side I was tempted to remove it with the idea I would put it back later. -

I like the first board, but this is an entirely different mood here. I almost quit midstream on the last one to go this way, glad I finished the other, but now I will have options. -

See there is some of that 100 year old dust right there on the ledge! I better get back to real life now. -

Have been trying to figure out HOW IN THE WORLD I was going to hang chandeliers in a structure I cannot reach into very far. My hubby presented a solution, to build a frame on the base it self. I came up with the idea for the long section, the two triangles are not attached yet, so I can angle the base going in, and it will rest perfectly on window ledge beams already there., then I can add the arch pieces next. I found some decorative apex pieces that will add detail up high in the cathedral. If my measurements are correct this should all work, wish me luck! The 24 arm chandelier you see is an early birthday present from my hubby, [ It was a good price too, under $100 ] -

I think I am done, the only other thing I am considering is a thin white stencil on both sides of the center isle up to and then around the center piece to help the eye to see where its traveling. -

The runner stencil will continue all the way around, I made a Hobby Lobby run today for more paint, painters tape, and more stencils because I am already making plans for the second board which wants to be kind of ''White Wedding'' It will have lighter muted colors , lots of white, light grays , light greens, a few pops of accent colors and celtic designs under the rotunda. I found a new runner stencil to use 2 celtic medalions, [ I used one here for lack of something better ] -

I was up too late working in the layout, some of the things I tried didnt look right ,had to fix them. The design in the middle is directly under the cathedral rotunda, I drew in grids to look like it was all mosaic pieces, it wasnt perfect so today repainting the design as well.....Good news is if I hate it when I am done, I have another board and can try an all new color scheme and pattern! -
