  1. Oh my goodness, I so happy I found this forum. Super excited to get to know all these creative minds. I have zero experience building dollhouses - well as an art student 100 years ago in HS, I did create a miniature Shakespearian Scene for my English teacher. That’s it! My husband purchase this dollhouse for my at a Fleamarket. I’m planning on rehabbing it ;-) xxx-ooo
  2. Hi, Everyone! I am new to the Greenleaf Forum. I live in Fairfield County, CT. I have loved tiny things since I was a child and from about age 9 into my teens I loved decorating my childhood dollhouse (a four-room tin house with an "addition" of 8 rooms thanks to two liquor store boxes, haha) and making mini things for it. I really didn't pack the house away until I went to college, but then for about ten years I didn't think much about miniatures. Then I found a dollhouse kit at Goodwill and put that together and decorated it sort of on a whim. Ten MORE years went by, and my mom sent me a little quarantine birthday care package that contained a miniature room kit, which I finished putting together a few weeks ago. I started poking around on Instagram looking at some of the amazing things miniaturists do, and now I am wondering why I haven't been making miniatures and building things this whole time! I think I didn't realize what a large community of people it is. It sort of felt like something I enjoyed as a kid and almost didn't realize could be a hobby for me as a "grown-up", too. So here I am! I just bought an Aster Cottage kit, and am slowly getting ready to put that together with a Christmas theme, but I'm doing lots of reading and preparing because I want it to look great :-)
  3. Help! I started my first dollhouse and FINALLY got to a finishing point after about a year and a half. There are still a few minor things that need done but it’s finished enough for now (I needed to finish it by Xmas for my daughter). I have made dozens of little 1:24 models in the past and am a little knowledgable in electrical (aircraft electrician over a decade ago) but have since become rusty in the topic. I opted to install 6, small LED lights into the dollhouse, connected by a series of 9v batteries. Since my other smaller models have included similar setups with the LEDs and batteries, I didn’t think this would be an impossible task. I have ordered 9V lights and hardwired them into the house, connecting them in series to 6, 9v battery housing and a switch. It had seemed a bit of overkill to me, since the smaller models often used a single AA battery for often up to 4-5 bright lights. Except, it was very dim (which I don’t mind too much, as it’s more for effect anyway) and lasted maybe 30 minutes before dying. I’m lost now on what to do. I would have to completely cut into the house and moulding to replace the wiring. Thoughts? Did I completely mess this up? Help!! I will try to post pictures of the setup.
  4. Hi! I'm new to the miniature and dollhouse world. I'm from Ohio. I never thought I would own a dollhouse even though I've always loved them. Surprisingly my mother bought me the Beacon Hill kit for my 52nd birthday. I was in complete shock! I have no idea where to start past reading the directions and thinking "oh my, what have I gotten myself into?" I need help starting from the very beginning.
  5. Hello there, I am new to the mini community but have been an admirer for years. I am giving my daughter a house full of furniture for Christmas this year and in the last two days have learned a lot of things about scale that I had no idea existed. My problem is that I fell in love with some 1:16 scale furniture and ordered it not knowing that the home kits are specific sizes. I LOVE the 1:12 scale homes more than the 1:16 scale home and am wondering if the 1:16 scale furniture will look terrible in a 1:12 scale home? I plan on using all 1:16 scale furniture and dolls. Do any of you have both a 1:12 scale home and 1:16 scale furniture that you could show me a picture of the size difference. I've searched everywhere online and have only been able to find pictures of the furniture compared to each other but not a 1:12 scale home with all 1:16 scale furniture inside. Thank you so much! I'm sure as I get building, I will have a million more questions as well.
  6. Hi, new member here and wanted to introduce myself. I built a Harrison for my daughter several years ago; and although I was in over my head for a first timer, I enjoyed myself so much I wanted to build another one although I couldn’t justify building one if I wasn’t making it for someone (I’m not a collector (yet)). It’s been about 8 years, but I’m jumping back in with an Orchid kit that I’m kind of envisioning as a beach cottage. I’m excited for my winter project and really grateful for all the expertise and inspiration I’m finding here. I live in Virginia just outside of Washington DC.
  7. Hello, My dad pulled this out of the attic and gave it to me - however I don't have any children and all the nieces and nephews are too old to want to play with it. I hope that this will go to a collector who will enjoy it or someone whose kids will enjoy it. I am not sure what it is worth. I have it listed on Craigslist. It has never been opened. Looks like the box might have some minimal damage from being almost 30 years old (1990), but nothing that would damage the dollhouse. Link and pictures: http://cosprings.craigslist.org/atq/6192343996.html Thanks for looking.
  8. Hello Everyone, I'm new to these forums but not new to the love of minis. I'm from Southern California and I live in Rancho Cucamonga - that's on the way to Palm Springs in one direction and Las Vegas in another. My first build was a Dura-Craft Farmhouse. ...not sure what I was thinking, or not thinking. But now I have time to revise this first love and I have a Dura craft San Franciscan 555 to build, a Greenleaf Glencroft and a Willowcrest kit waiting for me to assemble. I am however on the hunt for a 1:12 Hacienda Style plans. I'm looking forward to seeing everyones homes and learning from all of you.
  9. Hello everyone! About 6 months ago my husband and I decided we wanted to work on a hobby together. We'd built a dog house (mostly he did) and we had fun and were sad when it was over. After much deliberation (we have VERY different tastes) we both agreed on, and we're excited about, a dollhouse! For the past 6 months or so I've been doing some research and having fun putting stuff on pinterest but couldnt afford the actual kit and just kept thinking "someday." Well, my mom ordered us one for Christmas! It's the Beacon Hill and I'm so excited. We took the rest of our Christmas money and bought supplies and a folding banquet table to work on. I'll attach pictures of what we have so far. It's soooo much more intense then I ever imagined, the schematics and instructions feel like they're in another language. I learned today to make sure to work in a well ventilated area while staining wood, as I'm feeling slightly ill now lol. Live and learn. Anyway, I'm so grateful for this forum, it's been VERY helpful. I haven't quite figured out my way around it. I'm still trying to figure out how to view member galleries. But when I do find stuff it been awesome.. you all are awesome. I've also been reading the beacon hill thread but it looks like it's been several months since anyone has posted there. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the wonderful help that you who go before us newbies post online! P.S. nevermind, I can't add the pictures because I can't figure out how to make them small enough! I'm on my cell phone.
  10. Hi, My name is Laurie and I would consider myself a newbie. I have built a house before, but it was as a newlywed 31 years ago. I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, let alone how I built a doll house 31 years and 3 kids ago! I visiting my sister in November and admired her houses. ( I think she's working on three at a time). So guess what I got for Christmas! I'm fortunate to have a great space where I can leave all this stuff out and work on it as I have time. I think this forum is awesome and have already learned so much from it, and from my sister. I've got the shell of the house assembled and have a couple of questions. Are there places to go to to ask specific questions (i.e. sanding and painting)? BTW, the house I have is the Orchid.
  11. Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I just bought two dollhouse kits from a Facebook yard sale group. I purchased a house called "the whitney" and one called "heritage" both for $20!! I've drooled over the ones at Hobby Lobby and knew I got a bargain. The problem is that I know nothing about building a dollhouse! I'm a pretty good crafter and artist and am really getting excited about this endeavor! I'm building them for my daughter, who is 6 months old...She will probably be old enough to play with them by the time I'm finished! LOL! I'm enlisting the help of my father, who has built actual houses and hoping to pick his brain about things, too. I would like to know some tricks of the trade. What has/hasn't worked for you? Are there any products that you've used a long time ago and still holding up? Are there any tools you swear by and why? What brand of materials (glue, paint, paintbrushes, etc.) do you use? Why? What is the one piece of advise to those just starting out? These both seem like Victorian homes, is that more difficult? Thank you for your responses and wisdom! <3
  12. Hi y'all! I'm really just looking for guidance, if possible. I know nothing about dollhouses or miniatures, but I recently found my old childhood dollhouse from the 1970's and don't have a clue what to do with any of it. I'm very sentimental, so I can't just toss it, but I need to find out about how to go about selling it, and selling the furniture. It was a kit, all wood, with a bunch of furniture (made in Korea?)...Is it intrusive to upload a few pictures to see if anyone here could point me in the right direction? Thank you so much for any help! Oh...I'm Kim and in Marietta, GA...
  13. Hello from Oregon! I'm a new member and have no idea what I'm doing. This looks like a great place to share and laugh! I own the newest Dollhouse and Miniature shop in the Northwest. I would love to talk to artisians who would possibly consign in my shop. I'm not looking to get rich, I'll be happy to pay the rent. I want to share and have fun! What a wonderful passion we share! I am in this adorable little town, 26 antique shops and almost all are walking distance from each other. Quant little places to grab a snack or even sample wine. I am in the Historic District. Right on Main street in a huge old 2 story house with original hardwood floors throughout. Come and play, visit, meet other miniaturist and have FUN! This is a dream I have had that goes back about 25 years, my grandma and I would sit and plan for hours of what we wanted and what we would do. Some how it's happened. Grandma is here in my heart, guiding me all the way. I moved in here using every penny I could scrounge up, even selling tons of miniatures and collectibles online. Please plan a stop by and share in my dream come true and best of all...I get to live in my "Dollhouse"! mini hugs to all! 14. Hi everyone! I'm Jay (20) and I'm new here. I got started on dollhouses because the year before my mother passed, she built me a very cute one that wasn't from a kit and it took her months! I'm working on restoring the one she built as it is 9 years old. I'm also building my first dollhouse, The Orchid. I've built two furniture sets so far, also by Greenleaf.
  15. Hello everyone here in the Greenleaf community. I have been involved in dollhouse building for approximately 10 years. I love rescuing old & ruined dollhouses and revamping them to give to one of my 10 granddaughters or to give for donation. I have built the Pierce ands several others (long story) but I am presently re-styling a Beacon Hill and need some support with it. I have done approximately 11 houses, including a store, forestation, barn etc. I do not work anymore and I spend most alone time working with my dollhouse projects. i have a wee dog and an African Grey who keep me company and in the real world when I am preoccupied. It is an addiction of fun proportions and expensive when I let myself get carried away. for me, Thursdays are a time set aside that I meet with other enthusiasts in Marrickville for chat, help, & anything miniature. I will post some p photos to accompany anything that seems necessary when I need help. Thank you again for reading my post and allowing me to be a part of a large community where others with this addiction can meet, share & source. Again Thanks Kate McDougall

  17. Hello everyone, I am a happily married, 57 year old grandmother of 12. I live in Virginia but I am originally from Maine. I am building my third dollhouse, Newport. I have the next dollhouse "Orchid"' in a box ready to go and a punch list for another one after that. It is very addictive. I found myself at home on disability several years ago after my third back surgery. I've had a 4th since then. On bad days, when I can't stand or sit to work on the actual structure, I can make all sorts of items to decorate the inside. I usually have no less than three projects going at once. I love the forums, tutorials, and helpful hints on this website. Luckily, my husband is very supportive and let me take over half of his den for the "Newport with addition. He built a beautiful table with turntable for my house. He keeps asking what I'll do with these dollhouses, as we will eventually run out of room. I reminded him that we have 7 granddaughters out of 12 grandchildren. Guess I can plan on being busy for awhile.
  18. Hi! My names Ryder and I need helping picking out my first dollhouse! Here's a little background; when I was about six or seven My grandma and I were looking through a crafting magazine one day and she pointed to a dollhouse and said "I've always wanted to do one of those. It wouldn't be a doll house you played with you'd just look and collect the pieces and make the rooms anyway you'd like." At the time I was young and a doll house you couldn't play with didn't appeal to me. Now I'm older and my other grandmother has passed with much too much left to do in her bucket list. My grandma who is still with us wants a dollhouse, and a dollhouse she shall get. Her birthday is March 18th I have just under 5 months. Let's do this!
