  1. I would like to dust off my pierce green leaf Victorian house ! It is assembled but unfinished , I would like to electrify it. It hAs been sitting for years! Now I have young grandchildren and want to finish the project! I guess I need the instructions... Ha
  2. Hi, I'm Paula, aka gttygrl, from Southern California. I built my first dollhouse in the early '90s--fresh out of college, out of work, and kind of depressed about it, I found solace in building a Newburg kit and furnishing it from treasures found at the miniature store in Stoneham, MA, and the miniature shows held annually at the Shriner's in Wilmington, MA. (You can see it in the background here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pcarlson/385724353/in/set-72157594172082365) My sister and I purchased a Worthington kit and built the shell, but I was losing interest by then, and we let it sit there for years unfinished. When I moved from the east coast to SoCal, I gave my Newburg to the children of a friend, that I've now long since lost contact with. I don't remember what we did with the Worthington, probably gave it to the Salvation Army. (I am now imagining kicking my past self repeatedly in the shins.) Then we entered the age of Pinterest, where adorably decorated and landscaped dollhouses pop up on my feed on a regular basis. Last summer (2012, not '13), I bought the Orchid kit from Amazon, with the intention of finishing it for donation at the company's Christmas silent auction. I sanded and painted and stained for a few weeks before I got distracted by something else, again. All the neatly labeled and bagged parts have sat on a shelf for the past year and a half, until I pulled them down last week to try again. It's definitely going up this time. I still have all the extras that I'd purchased back then--the mixture and stencil for the brick exterior, the gazillions of scrapbook paper to choose the wallpaper from, the balsa wood for the molding, the templates I'd made of every wall and window. So far this week I've wallpapered a couple of walls (pinks and greens for the first floor), used tissue paper to "stucco" the first floor ceiling, and completely changed my mind on where the kitchen should go. And I am very grateful to KathyB's White Orchid post showing how she custom-made the stairs (http://kathiebminis.blogspot.com/2009/02/white-orchid-02-oven-wall.html). Once the ceiling paint has dried, I'll be assembling the shell and will likely continue the build in the order described in the More Minis blog (http://moreminis.blogspot.com/2007/04/orchid-day-1.html#.UxeJn86VtrM). This is the dry run. I had to sand some of the tabs to make it fit. I love the stained floors, they make me happy just looking at them. I hope this isn't too long. I can get a little wordy.
  3. Finally realizing a dream. Since I was about 8 I have wanted to build a dollhouse. I am now 47. My husband gave me the Magnolia kit as a wedding gift this past September. Told me it is his mission to help me realize my dreams. I finally have some time to get started. I looked thru some of the previous posts for answers and already have to say THANK YOU for the information. I'm on my way!!!!!
  4. Hi everybody, I am Sabrina, currently a New Yorker and a college student (studying history/english/law) on break, who was recently given the Greenleaf Beacon Hill house by her mother. I instantly fell in love with it, however it is in pretty bad shape. I am hoping to do a lot of the work, now that I have the time. I recently started working on it. It is built, and I started painting it and fixing the broken pieces on the house. Does anybody know how to replace the windows by any chance (if you can that is)? I look forward to learning from every one and hope this project is equally rewarding as it is stressful. P.S. Since I am sorta lost lol any advice is very much appreciated :throb:
  5. Hi, my name is Stacey and I have recently discovered the joys of dollhouse and furniture building. My husband and I built The Allison dollhouse kit, I then built The Tiffani by myself. I am now getting ready to start building The Pierce, which is much larger than the others, and would appreciate any & all advice and or tips. Thanks in advance, Stacey
  6. Hi there! My name is Nicole and I'm new to the green leaf community. I've built a few houses, not totally finished, but I'm not a complete amateur. (or I'd like to think so) I'm from Michigan, in my early twenties, married, and I have a 9 month old daughter named Delilah. I went to college for a bachelors of Fine Arts, with a drawing and painting focus. Currently working on my Spring Fling Kit. First time doing one. So, hi!
  7. Hello everyone! My name is Gayla and my Member name is Tiny Favors. I am so excited to have found this wonderful community you have here! I am new to the miniature world but have always LOVED anything tiny!! So! Needless to say I had to have a love for miniatures! I have an online Etsy shop called Tiny Favors and I make and sell handmade bath and beauty products along with polymer clay charms and dollhouse miniature items I make. I only have one miniature item listed right now but have many new items in the works being made currently to hopefully be listed soon. I am actually thinking about making a second shop to separate the bath from the charms and miniatures and also I am wanting to list craft supplies as I have a TON of them lol. I am not a collector of miniatures myself but I enjoy making and selling the items though as it is so much fun to make tiny images of life size items! I look forward to chatting with all of you and seeing your miniature worlds and the things that you make! It is so nice to be able to talk to others that have the same interest as you do and to be able to learn you ways to do things that you may have not thought of otherwise. This seems like a great platform to make new friends and have fun! If anyone ever wants to chat or has questions about anything please feel free to message me anytime and I will respond as quickly as I can! Hope everyone is having a beautifully wonderful Mother's Day today! I am enjoying the nice warm weather and spending time with my 18 year old son when I can get him to come out of his room and off the computer or XBox 360 lol! Have a great day! Gayla -Tiny Favors
  8. Hello there, I introduced myself briefly in the Community Trading area, and gave a website intro HERE , but I'd like to make this one a little more personal. My name's Niccy and I'm 26, from England, UK My background is in Art and Design, after graduating from a Fine Arts course at college in 2005, and up until a year ago my creative flair was capped by my employment - I worked in catering and then onto a nursery (Kindergarden) setting for several years. Due to a family crisis, my mum, who owns an online dollshouse company, called upon me to help whilst my grandfather turned suddenly very ill. I left my Nursery job to be here for the business, and I'm finally able to throw my creative eye into the real world. I am beginning to experiment with polymer clay, and have just purchased a couple of books on making miniature food. My aim is to be confident enough at doing it so they can be included to our site stock and taken to customers worldwide. It's a pretty daunting thought, as I'm such a perfectionist that I'm not sure how this is going to turn out- but i'm up for a challenge! If any of you do mini clay works I'll be grateful of some starting hints and tips! there's an instagram feed on the bottom of our homepage that she what i've been up to. I'm rather pleased with how the eggs turned out, but going to start experimenting a lot more when these books arrive!! I have a 4 year old daughter who was given her first dolls' house by Father Christmas last year. She is absolutely bursting with imagination, and frankly that girl is my world! Good things come in mini packages Hope to get to know some of you lovely folk! Regards, and bye for now! Niccy.
  9. Hey everyone, My name is Cheryl and I've just gotten back into dollhouses after a 30 year break. Everything has changed so I Google a lot for info and found this forum so here I am! I'm working on Santa's Cottage right now and have The Imagination House and The Tennyson waiting for me. I hope to learn a lot here, (if I can figure my way around a forum, this is my first one!) and getting to know everyone! Cheryl
  10. Hello, My name is Patsy. I live in Boise Idaho. I am on my second dollhouse. The first one was for the grand daughters. The Garfield house is for me.
  11. Hello I am from Colorado, am not new to miniatures in fact, have been doing them off and on for over 30 years. This is the first house I have done in half scale. (The Fairfield) I have done about 20 in one inch and only own one, which is a Christmas house. I don't even know which model it is anymore. I use to work for Lee Wards, many years ago and would put kits together for customers. That was something I could do at home, I had 4 children in 5 years, so glue and wait was a good thing then. Now my youngest is 30 and I have 3 granddaughters; 2 years, 5 years and 9 years old. I have just started to make one with the nine year old and she choose some rather weird kit that I had picked up years ago from Target. (I have several saved kits) I don't currently work but stay at home with my two young beautiful huskies. I am lucky enough to have my own workroom as we have a fairly new and large house. I also do beading and some stamping. I really like the half scale best. Katheen
  12. Hi All I am building my first doll house and have found it to be a more iinteresting and complex process then I originally thought. Though I have to say, the biggest issues are probably getting agreement with my wife on how to paint and decorate it as I build it. I am buildinig the Marquam Hill Mansion as part of occupying some time while I recover from some health issues and wait to get back to full time employment. Right now it is a toss up between whether we keep it for potential future grand kids or donate the house to shelter or some other group that could use it. Thanks, David Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
  13. Hi from Barcelona (Spain), My name is Rouser and I am 51 years old, I have a lot of hobbies, really all handmade items, but the dolls house is very intereste. I hope that can learn a lot of things is this forum, because I have seen that there are many goods hands. Bye
  14. Hi! My name is Rebecca and I'm new to the Greenhouse forum/miniatures/dollhouse community I am a stay at home mom (SAHM) of two and part time university student (in my 6th year, who knows if I will ever finish now that this is my new hobby). I stumbled across the world of miniatures recently on Pinterest and was in awe at what some people have the ability to create on such a small scale. I dreamt of the day that I could buy something like that for my daughter (who is 2.5 right now), because I remember longing for one like it myself as a young girl. Then I realized....I don't have to wait! I can make one for myself! LOL I searched around for an appropriate kit and I decided to go with the Orchid. In the meantime, while I was waiting for my kit to arrive, I scoured the internet for hours looking for different options on how to furnish my house. After looking for a while, I thought to myself that I could actually probably make a lot of it too! So I went and got some balsa wood and polymer clay. My partner (DP) probably thought I was crazy at this point. When we first got together, he was aware I had hobbies, at the time it was mostly painting, something he could probably handle. Then it was making baby hairclips....then felt toys, then knitting (again) and sewing... LOL. All of these new hobbies (as I'm sure many of you know all to well) bring many new things into the house, and we actually live in a tiny 2 bedroom basement apartment. So when I mentioned "dollhouse" and "miniatures" to him I'm surprised he didn't faint! [since starting this hobby btw, I have purged all other useless craft supplies that cannot be used for something mini ] Anyways, I'm really looking forward to being a part of this community! I cannot wait to hear/see about some of the other projects people have, and just share excitement about all things small in general! Reading through the fourm everyone seems really nice! and I'm also liking the emoicons . I'll be blogging my whole adventure at my blog here if you want to stop by and offer any advice for someone who is just starting up. Cant wait to meet everyone!
  15. Hello, all! I am Kathy (aka Kat12), and I just purchased my first wood dollhouse kit online, last night. I am soooo excited, lol. I am 47, and I have wanted a dollhouse since I was little. I purchased the Laurel and the Primrose addition, and I cannot wait til they get here from Toronto (an 8 hour drive normally...God knows how long with Canada Post, lol). I was not sure what to put down when I joined and the form asked how many dollhouses I have put together. I have never done a wood kit, but I have stitched up 2 plastic canvas dollhouses, and have the third one about 2/3rds complete. The first one I stitched up was a little carry and play two roomer, called "Bear Cottage". The second, The Haunted Dollhouse, is larger, with 6 rooms (3 floors). The third is from a pattern called "My Pink Dollhouse", and it will also have 6 rooms, 3 floors. I completed all of the interior rooms except for the attic floor...I am working on that now. I took a break from the house to stitch some of the furniture that goes with it, and decided that my fridge shelves looked bear. So I googled "how to make miniature food" and found seven billion websites, lol, and lost 3 days immersed in the world of miniatures. I found a Canadian Dollhouse company, located in Toronto, and it was having a sale (woohoo). I feel like a kid at Christmas; this is so exciting. I just wish my little niece Clarissa lived closer than an 8 hour drive, because she would love to do this house up with me. Oh well, my inner child and I will have fun doing it ourselves . I am looking forward to becoming a part of this group. Take care, Kathy (PS: why can't I write the short forms I words like I am: I'm, without getting that weird line in between, lol?) Here are some photos:
  16. Hi everyone, My name is Jessica. I live in southeast Alabama. I have gotten interested in dollhouse furniture collecting in the last 4 months or so. My mom bought a Pink Duracraft Heritage dollhouse just for the furniture (she had another dollhouse that she wanted to use). So she told me that I could have that one. I am looking for a dollhouse forum where I can ask questions, get recommendations, and share photos. I also want to be on one with a moderator. I am an admin for three different Facebook groups so I know how important their job is of keeping comments positive and kind. I look forward to sharing with you.
