I drilled holes in the base of the posts and inserted a small nail (with the head clipped off)and pounded them into position. The nail gives added strength to the structure. I like how the blue pointed stakes mimic the blue diamonds on the gingerbread at the roof peaks. -

Since I had to replace all of the posts, I had to re-imagine the gingerbread assembly. The original posts had a dado that the gingerbread piece fit into, but I wasn't about to attempt that with the new posts! I am not that skilled! LOL Instead, I cut pieces of square strip wood to fit in between each set of posts, then glued a long flat piece of strip wood across the top of the 2 assembly sets. This gave the whole unit strength. The gingerbread arches were then glued to the front edge of the square strips. I took some pieces of the old wood trim and created little pointed stakes and painted them blue. I glued them over the gap on the posts where the two gingerbread pieces didn't quite meet. -

After much consternation, multiple removals and installations of hinges, and a bit of sanding (and a few magic words)....the front doors are back into proper working position! Yay! Happy Dance indeed! I changed the color from white with the wood panel inserts to all blue. It gives a more updated look...and besides, the wood panel inserts were in bad shape and the solid color paint just covers that up. I had to replace the door knockers since I broke one of them when trying to pry it off to paint the door. oops. Gotta shine up the house numbers yet, but I like the new look!- 2 comments

Because I screwed up on the wallpaper, I felt that I needed to put in trim at the corners...heckofatime matching that peach wallpaper! I am not sure I like this bathroom. Not liking the expanse of white tile on the floor. Maybe paint some of the tiles peach? -

I've been repainting the exterior window trim and shutters for a couple of days now....just got the first coats on the bay window. I noticed right away that the new blue color matches the blue in the 'stained glass' much better! Score! (and yes, the windows have been installed upside down by the original builder. *shrug*)- 1 comment

The doors have new blue paint. I was thinking about changing the color entirely, but decided to stick with the builders original blue theme....just gave it a new, more modern shade. I didn't like how the door was before- half blue, half cream- so I painted it a solid blue. Really like it! Started painting the windows and shutters as well. Not sure if you can tell from this photo, but the trim at the eaves is still the old, yellowed white/cream paint and the windows have the new cream with blue accents. You can also see the progress on the porch...the base has been painted and the porch floor was scored, stained and varnished. -

I pass this house every morning and evening - I just LOVE this porch!! So today I stopped to snap a pic so I can use it for inspiration as I begin repairs on the Ellwanger front porch.- 4 comments

I had been waiting to stain my floors for WEEKS, but due to not having a basement or garage to work in, and it being FREEZING for so long....I decided to pack up my floors in my suitcase and take them along with me on vacation to Florida! LOL So I took a couple days while visiting my parents to get them stained and then used a spray poly on them. Woo Hoo!-

Well, the wallpaper and trim are finished for the Nursery - the floor is just dry fit at this point. I tried to match the color of the blue balloons in the paper....guess it works ok. LOL Still debating if I want to put some white trim around the dormer opening?? -

I finished the new trim for the bay window- corner trim with a piece of fancy window molding glued together. I decided that it needs a window seat so I did a mock up with pink fabric...what do you think? Pink or green? And now maybe some curtains.... The center window also has some damage that I am not sure how to fix....but I am sure something will eventually come to me.- 4 comments

Finally getting started on papering the living room. Pondered and pondered if I should build a bump-out for the fireplace and wainscot in the back section by the bay window.... At last I said "no" to both ideas. The back bay window will get upgraded trim and a padded window seat. Now I wait for a warmer day to stain and varnish the floors. -

yay! My first lights work!! I really suck at soldering, however. LOL I painted the white shade of this chandelier pink to match the pink and teal wallpaper for the girl's room. -

This kitchen fixture did not had a ceiling hook-thingy, so I was able to find a brass one and a silver jump ring in my stash. I painted them will a copper model paint, and then lightly brushed the copper paint over the chain and the other parts of the fixture. Love how it turned out - and love that I got it to light up!
