  1. THIS IS MY FIRST DOLLHOUSE. WHAT DO YOU THINK? HOW DID I DO?
  2. Hi all, I am hoping that someone will be able to help me with some ideas! I am bashing a Primrose to an Orchid and need some help with the roof lines. This will be my first dollhouse kit - and of course, couldn't just stick with a standard kit. I am handy though, and have been crafting and building for close to 20 years. I've taken some pictures, so hopefully they help with thoughts and ideas. I have folded paper where I thought the roof would make sense, but am not positive on where the roof lines should end up where the Primrose juts out. And was also wondering if I should open up the attic/wall where the Orchid and Primrose meet. Any thoughts or ideas, anyone? I am also adding a dormer to the Primrose, and a full front porch to the Orchid. Not settled on an idea for the side of the house where the Primrose juts out - mainly because I'm not sure where the roof is going to end up, but I'm pretty sure I can work all that out. My two daughters and I are each building an Orchid, and they both decided on adding a Primrose to their houses as well, but those will be more standard applications. We have been working on trim for a loooong time (haven't had much time to work on it together) and are finally getting to the fun part! (though where we are going to put three dollhouses, I don't know!) El P.S. The paper folds aren't perfect, they were just folded to get a general idea. :-) And if I'm better off not adding the primrose this way, I can work with that too.
  3. Hi all--I'm very new to this world. I just completed my first project, a haunted version of the Orchid, which started as kind of a lark this fall. My son wanted to turn our (real) house into a haunted house for Halloween and I gently suggested that we do a dollhouse instead, thinking to save myself some time. Ha! We selected the Orchid, thank goodness, because I didn't really know what I was getting into having never done a kit-built house before. Anyway, Halloween has come and gone and the house is almost finished and I am completely totally sucked in now...already planning my next project, which I think will be a Real Good Toys Classic Bungalow. The great thing about my haunted Orchid was that every time I screwed up I could shrug and say, "well, it is supposed to be a haunted house!" (or I put a piece of trim there). I did manage to successfully electrify the house, although I do have sconce cords showing in the bedroom thanks to putting the tap way too low on the wall. I may ultimately pull off the wall paper and just wire them in properly--still thinking about that. Some of you may also notice that the bay window is on the wrong side of the house...oops. I definitely learned a lot and am looking forward to learning a lot more from this group! Sharon

Ready to prime the window trim - patience is hard!!

I decided on this flooring because its kind of beachy looking. I was going to use it just for the kitchen, but I didn't have enough wood pieces to do wood flooring in the living room so I decided to just roll with it and do the whole downstairs with this.

  11. Hi! (waves) I'm almost done with my first house, the Orchid, and thought I'd come check out the online community. Looking around the gallery, my poor little house needs a LOT of work, lol... ~bunny

There's a book on the bench now. I can't decide if i want to leave it wood-toned, or paint it white/black to go with the rest of the house. Any thoughts?

My mom came and saw my house for the first time. So excited, she gave me some mini-money and I sent the hubs off to hit Hobby Lobby for me! This is what he came back with. (I want EVERYTHING they have, so it's easier and faster to just send him and say "surprise me!" lol)

    Bedroom

I made the bed with cotton balls and old clothes. It's removable, so I can change the "bedding" by making multiple beds. This was my first try.

Eh, they're bunnies. They go outside. The wallpaper, here and throughout the house, is Dollar Tree self-adhesive shelf paper. Dollhousing on a budget, y'all!

  21. Got my first dollhouse kit 1-1/2 weeks ago and I'm already quite addicted to this new hobby (got my 2nd dollhouse ordered and ended up with 2 of the Michael's puzzle kits also) I've loved Miniatures for years but never had a dollhouse kit until now, so far I'm really loving putting together my Orchild (except for having to piece the de-laminated trim back together!) and it's turning out just how I wanted it to. I'll be starting on the interior soon and I'm a little bit nerious about the wallpaper, but can't wait to do the flooring (if all goes well it's going to be a chevron style floor made out of popcicle sticks) the house's occupants will be a pair of Fairyland Pukipuki's (you can see 1 of them in my gallery pictures) http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=6704
  22. I'm awaiting the delivery of my first Greenleaf house, The Orchid. I've always loved and had an interest in anything paranormal, and when I picked out a doll house with the intention of creating a "haunted house" the Orchid seems to be the perfect choice for me. I want to create her, (funny how I think of the house as a her) as a turn of the century home, that has a underlying theme of a haunt. I want it as authentic as I can make her. I have bits of tattered lace for her curtains, and I want to tea dye them and distress them a bit. I know I want a nursery in there, a kitchen and a formal parlor and attic. I'm not sure if I'm going to paint the walls or wallpaper. I'm still mulling that over. And I think I want to electrify her because it will be a good starting point to learn with the simplistic design the house has. I can't wait for her to come, and I'll be updating this thread with pictures and my journey to create her.
