  1. From the album: The Lanai - A Roombox

To cover up some scratches when on the rear wall when I tried to remove some glue dots, I added some plastic sheeting from a chocolate candy box, then added a clear insert over it with the white design - from a scrapbook paper book. That also partially hides the wire from the battery lights.

The entry way. My fiance cut a hole in the plastic so we could add a door. I created the round steps out of wood circles and wood blocks. At some point will add a stair rail on each side. I painted the corbels on either side of the door white.

  5. From the album: The Lanai - A Roombox

I painted some basswood strips white and glued to each side of the "roof".

The flooring is RL pole wrap, cut and painted. I have two levels of it so that it can match the bottom door frame.

Using a planter from IKEA, I created this lanai scene with some wicker 1:12 furniture I had purchased on Ebay.

  8. From the album: Jane's Dream - A Roombox Assemblage

My completed assemblage "Jane's Dream". Jane, the daughter of Wendy Darling, dreams of the Mermaid Lagoon at Neverland while Peter Pan peeks in at the window.

  9. From the album: The Lanai - A Roombox

this is a solarium I purchased at Ikea about two years ago and have finally gotten around to working on. Right now the left side panel has been removed and cut and a door been inserted.

  11. From the album: Jane's Dream - A Roombox Assemblage

Taking advantage of the snow day today to continue work on this roombox assemblage piece. The base has several layers of encaustic wax paint. The outer walkway is different colored tile, with a wall of abalone-like shell pieces. This is called Jane's Dream, after a character in my musical. Jane is Wendy Darling's daughter, who eventually gets her turn to fly to Neverland with Peter. In this scene, she is dreaming of Peter and the Mermaids. Can't wait to work on the inside tomorrow!

  12. From the album: The Shabby Chic Dollhouse

Still need to dress it up with some office props, mini scripts, playbills, file folders, and office supplies, a Tony Award and perhaps a gold record, but this room is basically done. I want to write here!

  13. From the album: The Beach House Music & Art Studio - rehabbed dollhouse

I wanted to create a peaceful, quiet, meditative gallery. I used a blend of Benjamin Moore Blue Heron and white paint on the walls. The photographs are my own, miniaturized. I used plastic coverings from various plastic in our recycle bin, then used coffee stirrers and painted them. Most of them are mitered at the corners. I mounted the photographs onto illustration board. The shell in the left corner is from Ocean City, NJ.

  14. Hi everyone! I am so excited. My first rehabbed dollhouse was accepted into a mixed media art show in Rockaway NY from Feb 1- March 23. Here's the link to the hours on my Greenleaf Gallery: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=6543 This is gratifying and helpful as it may lead to a purchase or interest in the community in what I am doing, as well as help me in applying for various arts grants and residencies. I am applying for a grant, due Feb 14, that requires eight different entries so I will be one busy camper these next three week working on other houses and room boxes. I wish the shabby chic house I am working on had been ready as an entry for this show, but as the song goes "you can't hurry love." Tomorrow I am going to use museum wax to affix the furniture in place so it doesn't walk - should I more permanently glue things instead? - and create a little booklet to go along with the house explaining its history and the rehab steps...and maybe some pucks of the other projects I am working on. Maybe I can affix a piece of plexiglass to the dollhouse rooms to prevent prying fingers... It is a front opening house so I want to make sure the front panel can close flush... Anyway, wheeeee!
  15. From the album: The Shabby Chic Dollhouse

I took a basic table and chairs and added a tile top to the table and some rose appliques, as well as to the back of the table. It looks more Arts & Crafts movement than Shabby Chic, but I love both styles and it's cool to mix it up. I might add some slipcovers to the bottom part of the chairs as I don't love their architecture.

Made a shelf and put a utility light underneath. The baking worktable and items were an Ebay score.

Today's work was to get the Shabby Chic dollhouse kitchen up and running. This picture is after I've put up the second wall of wainscotting (popsicle sticks and moulding)

2nd floor shabby chic bedroom. Just a dry fit right now of the bedding. I hand-painted the floor. A few more touches to go but basically finished!

  20. From the album: The Shabby Chic Dollhouse

Following a tutorial I found on Google images of a RL painted floor (http://whiteoakattic.com/365-days-of-shabby-chic-decor/365-days-of-shabby-chic-decor-resources-painted-floors-1-4-11/) , I taped off the floor, putting a piece of tape in the squares that were going to remain white. I used a ruler and a pencil to make lines at an angle. I'm math challenged - the tutorial has a detailed mathematical way to do it, but I just eyeballed it. Shabby Chic style embraces mistakes. :-)

  21. From the album: The Shabby Chic Dollhouse

Almost done! I believe at this point I used a few coats of Delta Creative Gloss varnish to seal it in.
