From the album: Half-scale RGT Colonial (first house!)
Because I have a tight budget for this rather ambitious project, I looked around the house for a way to color the shingles. I had a bunch of old watercolors that hadn't used the black paint, so I popped out three discs of black watercolor pigment and mixed them with 1 cup of water, and soaked the shingles overnight. The next morning I laboriously spread them into one layer to dry. The results are not perfect but they are close to what I imagined. I am allowing the leftover paint to dry out a little (it's down to half a cup in volume) and might wash over the shingles again, because some of them definitely still look like chips of pine. -

This use of black watercolor has the potential to be very blotchy but on the plus side, nothing will stain! Anything touched by the paint just gets a quick wash. -
What is the easiest way to atain 1,280 shingles for my dollhouse? Do I stain them individually? (I'm thinking yes is the answer to this question...) Thanks for any tips or shortcuts!

Hi, I want to paint my shingles "realistic" on a Victorian dollhouse. My plan was to mix an acrylic wash and apply it in a varying number of layers to get some variation. Don't know if this is a good idea. Here in Sweden we dont have many Victorian houses; is dark brown or black good choices?
